I would give these folks zero stars if I could. Warning - do not use Zelle with this credit union! This issue also relates to the issue of receiving absolutely no help from Zelle; if you call them, they tell you to call your bank. Thus, you're at the mercy of your bank . . . in this case, the Bellco Credit Union. I received a Zelle transfer on Sunday and due to the antiquated and inept ability of Bellco to process the transfer or to inform me of what action to take, I still have not received the funds that were supposed to be a Valentines Day gift to me. I am not sure if I will get them, either. I received a call from Bellco today (Wednesday) after visiting the branch yesterday. They informed me that it would take until Friday to investigate this issue. So much for the "fast and easy" transfers with Zelle. So much for the competence of the staff to resolve what should be a VERY simple issue. I would recommend either PayPal or Venmo to transfer funds. I have never had any trouble with them. I have been a member at Bellco for more than 20 years and have experienced ongoing and increasing questionable actions by them over the past two years. It appears I will need to go elsewhere for services. They seem to be ignoring all the bad press they're getting on Yelp. I see a lot of folks that share my view. I can see that I'm not the only one with concerns about Bellco. What a shame, they've provided considerable assistance to some community programs but can't seem to get their own program together. read more

If there were an option to give negative stars, I would happily do so. After a decade of membership, with 10's of thousands in assets, and multiple accounts in positive standing, this institution decided to force-close my accounts over a clerical error. Despite my history with them, they insisted on being unhelpful in resolving the error up to and including the moment I was finally able to free myself from being a part of this ridiculously careless corporation. After several hours of getting nowhere with multiple transfers between customer service, resolutions managers, and every department in-between, I had enough. It was up to me to find a solution to the issue, it was up to me to figure out where the discrepancies were in my accounts, and it was up to me to figure out how to resolve the issue. Even after clarifying the issue, and making right the assets that were charged without my authorization, I was repeatedly met with the company's unwillingness to be helpful or take even a modicum of responsibility, aside from excessive, empty-backhanded apologies that only served to insult my intellect and confirm their unwillingness to be helpful. I won't get into the level of disrespect I experienced on a multitude of levels, but the best part of this scenario was knowing the final call with them was the last I will ever have to make to this company. Be aware that if you bank with this institution and have an issue, you will have a fight on your hands just to get to the source of issue at hand when it arises. If you have the tenacity to make it through the initial 20 minutes of fighting their automated system, you will have the pleasure of speaking to someone who will fail to offer any solutions or recognize that your issue may be unique or require a little critical thinking. Forget about them finding a reasonable solution. In my case, I had the delightful experience of being gaslighted about why a loan account I hadn't used in years was charged without authorization at the very moment I was notified that I was being threatened with collections. Before having the opportunity to correct the error, Bellco had taken the liberty of consolidating my liquid assets (more than 10x's the amount of the error) into my membership account, and force-closed each account in the process. As mentioned above, the loan account was the last of what amounted to PAGES of accounts with Bellco. Despite also not having any use for the better half of a decade, and having had to resolve a similar charge YEARS BEFORE to safeguard my accounts from this very issue, I was not helped further. This resulted in a merry-go-round of incompetence and client-blaming over many hours as I was suddenly burdened with re-establishing my personal finances from 1700 miles away, and left reeling from the fact that Bellco had not only upended my personal financial structures, but had not bothered to resolve the issue post-matter, and seemed perfectly content with failing to make the minimal effort to right a wrong. I was repeatedly "thanked," however, for "being a valued member." A repelling reminder that I was anything but that. I'm not sure what version of English or alternate reality exists where these things align to be a "valued" anything, but they will happily regurgitate this phrase while being completely unwilling to help a member, but then I am just one person. Needless to say, I took my assets exceeding 10X's the financial amount of the discrepancy and went elsewhere post haste. I immediately made right any business accounts and moved those also, which alone exceeded 100x's the worth of the oversight. I wouldn't recommend Bellco to my worst enemy, let alone the standard American that has a working income or an operational business. I don't want to imagine where I'd be if this had occurred on my business accounts. I won't say you're better off at Wells Fargo because that is the single worst institution on the planet, however, I will say that having a membership with Bellco is just as valuable. Do yourself a favor and go to a credit union that truly values their customers and the assets that those clientele represent, because you will not find that with Bellco. Thanks Bellco, for helping me see the error of my ways in personal asset management before showing me the same with my business accounts, for that I am grateful. This is the most terrible bank. Ever. I had my father, grandmother, and aunt all pass away due to COVID -19. I had asked them for leniency yet the opposite happened. Applied for a HELOC. Was given Incorrect interest rate up front. 2.5 weeks after applying i called for an update. Was told on callback they wouldn't fund loan because our home is deeded in the names of our 2 trusts (which I gave to them Upon applying). We then received a form letter saying our loan was rejected because of our credit scores. They're both over 800. They couldn't even be bothered to update their form letter. This is the shittiest bank I've ever used. I would give zero stars if an option. There is no number to get through directly. You are put on hold for an endless amount of time, regardless of the time. You cannot get through. They also are unable to keep track of important loan information. They seem to have lost track of my automatic deducted monthly loan. You can't even set up over the phone or via their website, you have to physically bring them a signed piece of paper. Been on hold now for 40 mins. My wait time was estimated at 8 mins when I started. This bank is the pinnacle of inefficiency. read more

Closed my account when I was in hospital and rehab 5 weeks. Because they let Planet fitness charge to my account after I called and told them I was in the with hospital with a stoke. I cancel my PF account don't allow anymore wirhdrawls. It was over drawn for 2.5 months. Cleared up only owed them $4.96. I wanted to give them a second chance. Need an appointment to open account can't walk in like First bank. They lost my business. read more

Bad bad bad these guys are considered a Co op bank with my bank and I even called before hand to make sure I had what I needed to make a withdrawal. I wait in line because only one person is helping people. After waiting for a while I go up and hand over my information in which she says Bellco changed the way they do it and I have to use the machine. Let me tell you that thing is a piece of crap I tried for ages to make it accept my information which is all correct. The machine errors constantly and it's slow. I wasted about 10 minutes in which I ended up giving up. DO NOT USE THIS BANK FOR A BUSINESS ACCOUNT!!!! Here's the rub. Nice, and I mean super nice folks. I was simply soooooo excited and overjoyed to leave my monster bank and join a credit union. I'm tired of being a part of a system that is just disgusting, like Chase. The folks at Bellco have all been so attentive and understanding, cooperative and good to me. My personal account is amazing and offers all kinds of lil perks. Business is a different story. Laura was the wonderful person that was so kind as to help me set up my accounts. I had to visit a second time because I could not set up my online business account. She was great in sitting down with me and trying to get everything done. We left and I tried to login to the business account at home. Again, no luck. Another hour of trying, nothing. I called and left her a mssg. She is, as always, super nice and calls me back, to refer me to their telephone banking folks. So, after ten minutes on hold, and a half hour speaking, the phone banker, also very professional and kind, finally spills the beans. Bellco's system for business banking does not work on a smartphone or tablet. Period. Not set to desktop view, nothing at all. Today, in this day, I cannot run my business finances with an iPhone or Android, in any way. I haven't even turned my laptop on in six months. I'm going on two weeks with no ability to access my business account. Huh. Then, we turn on the laptop just for fun, and still, nothing works, just says none of the records match. Needless to say, everybody I've spoken with says the development of the ability to use the accounts on the smartphones is a priority task at my new bank. In 2014. Only no one can tell me when. Now, please keep in mind...I'm not referring to an app. Nope that's clearly much too pie in the sky. I simply need the ability to use the Internet on any phone or tablet and access the account. Good grief, who balances their checkbook any longer? Come on Bellco, we all go online and monitor our accounts. Pretty sure my grandmother even does. What a let down. As much as I'd like to be able to sing the praises of the smaller, customer service oriented bank, there is simply no possible way, no matter how kind and attentive they are. If you have a business to run, and you want to run it in a responsible, organized way, you cannot do it here. My local pizza parlor has an app. I've got a happy hour app that saves me a ton of money. I'm going on a trip and went in to get cash. I needed newer bills. The woman said "these are the only bills we have". No one else going on this trip had this experience with their banks. This bank is seriously an embarrassment. You try to call them directly to never be able to actually talk to a human being. Their app and web presence is horribly laid and out, and worthless. I filled out a direct withdrawal from my bank being as that I have a car loan through Bellco and they forget to withdrawal it from my other bank account. I have had nothing but great experiences with the Bellco in Edgewater. We switched our finances over from another credit union we weren't so thrilled with about a year ago, and they made the process of switching so easy. We walked in one day and were seen right away and they got our accounts set up, our debit cards printed, overdraft protection set up, checks ordered, and even printed us a few checks for the account to hold us over until the order came in. Then recently when I changed my name, the process was incredibly easy and they handled everything within about 5 minutes. Typically, I don't even go into the branch because their online and phone app banking are so awesome that we can check our balances, make transfers, and deposit checks without even going in. Worst bellco location by far! I should have known not to stop here but its close to my house. This is the only location that tries to find any fee they can charge you with and they have no customer service here whatsoever. Also I dont know what kind of training they go through but they have misinformed me MANY times about bellco products only for me to find out otherwise. This location definitely taints customer views of Bellco. I went to another location and had zero issues. Second they will send you a bill that has to do with their error that was over a year ago.. Than if you try to pay that bill off they somehow still mess that up which will mess with your credit.. Literally one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. Maragaret the red head teller dismissed me when asking her a question and told me to sit and wait for someone. The first teller I went to had glasses and I specifically told her I want to close my accounts to pull the money out, she failed to mention I couldn't close my membership because of x x and x. So I wait 10 minutes for the manager and nothing. This branch was much closer then any other branch to my house. I've been a member with bellco since 2006. Never have had a problem with their services before. Was going to see if I could get a car or home loan through this location. But very glad I didn't. Location is short staffed. Phone system is always down. When I tried to call due to not having access to a computer. Teller was unable to help me with making a transaction over the phone. Asked for manager, was put on hold for a while, & then was told that she was busy in a meeting. Asked for her again. The manager (Shannon) told me she was unable to help me with my transaction b/c she felt that the people in her office were more important b/c they were about to sign something that was going to make the company & herself money. In all honesty employee (Shannon) become unprofessional when confronted with a difficult situation: She told us to come into the branch in order to get service. As a representative who deals with customers, Shannon lacks empathy, has an attitude, is rude, puts customer(s) on hold (for personal gain), abuses position of authority, is unresponsive and refuses to help when asked. Over all needs to work on her communication manners. (This is coming form the observation/perspective of an assistant manager with 11yrs in customer service). read more
