Love this ferry. Service's always been very good. It's pretty ride across the river. Really happy they have this.

Algiers Ferry Terminal is the place you go to grab the ferry to travel across the river to NOLA…read more Really, what can you say about the terminal? It is well designed and it does its job very well. It is clean and it is very well maintained. What you should expect when you walk the gangplank towards the boat is that the guard who is stationed there will ask to check your backpack, if you are wearing one. No big deal. It's a quick check. I get it. You don't want anyone to bring a bomb, or anything like that, on board. The best way to get your ticket for the ferry is online and show it to the staff member via your phone. They have everything from one day to long term passes. I believe the best way to do, if you are not a local, is to get the Jazzy Pass. Then, you can buy it for one or however many days you will be in New Orleans. Overall, this is an easy way to get across the river. The staff are all nice. They do their job very well. And, you should have nothing to complain about.

I selected the 6PM seating time so that I would be done with the meal by the time the Steamboat Natchez starts moving around 7PM. The dining area interior space was lovely and expansive with chandeliers, as well as a stage area. Each table had a bowl of Caesar Salad placed there already. Lettuce was nice and crunchy, with plenty of tangy dressing and croutons. Upon being seated, the server took drink orders and I selected Iced Tea (one of the complimentary beverages being offered). The Iced Tea was sweet and refreshing. Next, we were served Gumbo with rice, which was warm, flavorful, and comforting. As for the buffet, there was Shrimp Pasta, a few different saucy dishes made with veggies and meat, potatoes with bacon and peas, Prime Rib, Fried Chicken, and Green Beans. I really enjoyed the Shrimp Pasta, which was made with creamy, well seasoned sauce, and tender shrimp. The saucy dishes were cooked well and bold in flavor. Prime Rib was a little tough. Fried Chicken was delightfully crispy, but a bit on the dry side and could have used more flavor. Green Beans had a perfect consistency with yummy seasoning. For dessert, I tried both the Bread Pudding and Cheesecake with tasty coffee. Both were delicious in their own way. Bread Pudding was dense, with a milky, velvety smooth topping, while the Cheesecake was more light and airy, yet still rich. Service was solid. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Everything (drinks, appetizer, dessert, coffee) came out in a timely manner and the main dishes were part of the buffet. When done eating, I went out to take in golden hour sunset, then headed up to the top deck, where I found a seat. Live jazz music was performed throughout the evening. It was a perfect night for feeling the wind in my hair, watching the skyline go by along the Mississippi River, and the twinkling lights of the city as the sky turned dark. I really enjoyed myself on this iconic Jazz Cruise along Mississippi River.

The second half the jazz band plays. Throughout the cruise you're allowed to roam around visit the bars on each end and even the engine room! Bar had good options from local beers to specialty cocktails and you could even buy snacks! I had a sweet tooth and got a chocolate covered elephant ear which was literally the size of my head! Cruise was long but it was nice to just sit around and see the city from a different view!

The floats are kind of stacked in front of and around each other, but you can still tell what you're looking at because they are so huge. We saw Buzz Lightyear, Spock, Pepé Le Pew, and other gigantic floats, with some non licensed floats like a greek soldier, a fountain, a cow, and a buck toothed dragon. Now here is where things got a little weird. When we got there, we definitely did NOT do a tour, like the website says is required. We perused the gift shop, bought a few things, and then walked through the warehouse by ourselves and saw the floats on our way out. Mardi Gras World is a pretty neat place to visit, but it's definitely outside the central area of New Orleans. For just a quick stop to shop and see a few floats it's fine, but I think if I went back, I would definitely seek out the tour and figure out how to do that!

There's a lot of interesting history behind Mardi Gras, and it was fascinating to see the craftsmanship and learn how everything comes together behind the scenes. One downside is parking. There's no free parking available, and the closest option is about a block away, costing around $23, which felt a bit inconvenient. I would recommend checking it out at least once, especially if you're interested in Mardi Gras history and culture. That said, it's probably not something I'd go back to a second time.

All of a sudden, the trainee slammed on the brakes coming to a sudden stop for no reason and everyone shifted forward. Unfortunately, I was thrown off the step into the fare box after knocking the glasses off the poor gentleman sitting in front of me. It didn't matter that I was holding the strap as well as holding onto my husband. The man in charge took the trainee off and went behind a vehicle to scold him. Upon returning, he jokingly said we had an emergency stop. Never asked if anyone was injured. Stupidly, I never spoke up because I was embarrassed by the event. I immediately called the company after getting off and gave all my information. I told them I had just had meniscus surgery. I was informed I'd hear back after the holidays. Not getting any call, I called them. They claimed no record of this. I then spoke to claims who, unfortunately, didn't tell me I should definitely get a claim in. I called several times speaking to so many departments and people. I was assured the video onboard never would be deleted, so timing was fine. Weeks went by. I called several more times. I finally put a claim in. Mardi Gras came. Another excuse to have to wait due to the holiday. Well low-and-behold, the video is gone! Likely story! How hard would it have been to figure out who the workers were on Christmas Eve (and shame on them for never reporting it)?! I'm now needing another surgery on my meniscus as well as rotator cuff. No apologies, no responsibility, no claim of fault...just a very convenient missing video. Race is mentioned only because I'd love the people in charge to do their job and identify them. No other reason.
