Roberteaux brought us a little piece of Venice to New Orleans. Literally. We had a lovely ride on the beautiful Bella Mae, our Venetian crafted gondola imported from beautiful Italy. We had a beautiful time circling on the lake next to the museum where you can see the outdoor exhibit. We brought our own wine and snacks and Roberto had glasses and an ice bucket at the ready. Our guide was incredible, so informed and just kind, wasn't overbearing or awkward as some guides can be in close quarters. Romantic and scenic gondola ride through the waterways of City Park. Seeing the park's buildings, bridges and greenways from the water provides an advantageous viewpoint. As much as we desired to sit back and soak it all in for the memories and enjoy being together, we did take a few pictures. We couldn't resist. Robert provided an excellent experience from beginning to end. There was cheese and crackers for us to nibble and he provided an umbrella for sun shade. He will provide wine glasses and a corkscrew if you bring a bottle of champagne or prosecco. His choice of music was perfect. Hearing Andrea Bocelli's voice swell over the water in this setting was magical. Advance reservations are required. The online reservation system is quick and easy. MUST DO! Make reservations early to grab that sunset cruise! We weren't able to get the late one but we were able to get the next to last of the day which was completely fine. Come out early to walk around the Sculpture Gardens or even take a tour of the New Orleans Art Museum. Make sure to stop and enjoy Morning Call Coffee Stand (Café au Lait & Beignets) as well. There is just so much to do around City Park so enjoy some time there if you can. Robert had a dream of being a Gondolier... and with his passion and perseverance, he made his dream come true! I loved listening to his stories of how and why he landed here in New Orleans, and how he had to sink his boat twice to save it! He almost left NOLA after Katrina but I am glad to see that he ended up staying. This really is a perfect fit. Robert isn't a singer so has some low volume Italian music for our listening pleasure. He provides a bucket of ice for our (BYOB) beverages as well as a small plate of crackers and cheese for a little munchie action. New Orleans and Venice are my two favorite cities in the world. Although after doing research on Gondolas while working at Travelocity, I found an amazing place to grab a ride... Providence, RI during Fire Water. I need to write a review on this one, it was impressive. A few years back while visiting NOLA, I noticed that there was a Gondola in town at City Park. I came by to check it out and found the boat docked. I took a pic and posted it. I thought if I ever had a chance, I'd like to experience this as it really is a beautiful area. Unfortunately for me, there was construction going on in the park and on the lake sooo it wasn't the best experience it could have been which is a little disappointing. The gondola wasn't in it's previous location on the big lake. We were sitting there waiting for our time when Robert called me asking where we were, so we were a little late having to walk over to where he was now located so we ended up being a few minutes late. There was also a hiccup with the lake pump which left the lake area low so we couldn't finish the whole cruise route as we hit bottom going under the last bridge going up a different canal. I would have liked a heads up with the information so I could have decided whether or not to keep our reservation but I also understand that he's trying to make a living and none of this is his fault... So I am still very happy that we did the gondola while we had the time and money since that is not always the case in our lives. To get to City Park, we purchased a RTA day pass to ride the street car and bus lines earlier in the day for $3 then headed to City Park via Canal street car all the way to the end of the line from the French Quarter. It took about 30 minutes... then we walked a bit to the dock, so be prepared when planning on arrival time if you chose our scenic route. Cost: 50 min $90 Experience: Priceless read more

My fiance and I was visiting New Orleans. We scheduled our ride on a Sunday at 7PM so we can watch the sunset. Sadly, on that day, it was a very cloudy day. We arrived at the park quite early and was just chilling and exploring the park. We were thinking if we should go on an earlier time since we won't be able to see the sunset since it was a cloudy day. Total time from when we got on to we when got off = 45 minutes. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here but when the website said 50 minutes, I expected 50 minutes, especially when the ride costs $90. City Park is beautiful and our reservation was later in the evening so it wasn't insanely hot anymore. It was romantic but it was also weird to be asked to kiss under each bridge when you have a stranger standing behind you. I think we gave up after the second bridge but it was fun while it lasted. At the time, I got sick and we had to cancel on Robert (the owner) at the last minute. We figured we were out a gondola ride but Robert went above and beyond to let us reschedule. We finally had the time to take our gondola ride last weekend and it was fantastic. Liam, the gondolier, was very personable AND he can sing (very well) in Italian to boot! During this year's Love in the Garden, NOLA Gondola was giving free rides to the guests. Tips were accepted but most of the rich bastages didn't tip the man working his booty off in the heat. The gondolier really was an expert in his field. He was a bit chatty but I think that was more because it was an advertising thing for him that night and he wanted to get as many plugs in for his business as he could. It is rather special going through the canals at night, seeing the gardens, annoying the ducks who probably wish all the darned people would just go home and not come back until feeding time... NOLA Gondola is a unique, romantic experience every couple should do!! My then Fiance, now Husband (thanks to this ride), took me on this romantic gondola ride in City Park. It was a cold day in December last year when we went. We didn't have very high expectations, because, let's face it, we weren't in Italy. I must say that we were really surprised how wonderful this trip was. Robert, our gondolier, has a sparkling personality and told us stories of New Orleans and what he did w/ his boat when Katrina hit....very crafty. He was professional with lots of spunk and personality. I was impressed on how he was able to sway the boat around obstacles and the art behind it all. When we first arrived, we were greeted by Robert who offered us chocolates and crackers. Btw, his boat is imported from Italy..nice touch. Normally, you bring your own wine, but since I don't drink, I had my Starbucks already in hand. It was a chilly afternoon as sunset approached. We were provided w/ a nice, cozy blanket. Robert was kind enough to snap beautiful shots that we used as our engagement photos.
