I say rough because she was running her hand through my hair and shaking it out for a few minutes, leaving it still damp - my hair is thick, curly and prone to frizz so you can imagine how that went! Their website says the haircut includes "styling" and this is the first time I've ever left a salon with wet hair that I immediately wanted to put up in a bun when I got home. As a new customer, it seems like they could've at least mentioned when I was setting up the appointment that I needed to ask for a blow dry. I'm happy with the color she chose for my roots, but leaving the salon with unfinished hair left me not wanting to come back.

She is so friendly and accommodating and I trust her judgement on what type of haircut would suit me. I will sometimes come in with some inspiration, but other than that, I let her take the reins and do whatever, so long as I am consulted about the length! Sometimes I like keeping my hair long, sometimes I'm just ready to chop it all off. I also really like how this studio is set up where she only works on one person - it's intimate but also comfortable. Joy is such a pleasure to go to when I need to get a fresh cut. I am trying to be better and get my hair cut more often, but she is such a treat that it almost feels wrong to come too often...but so long as I am in the area, I will ALWAYS go to Joy and will recommend her to anyone.

The hairdresser also took advantage, put serum in my hair withholding that he would charge me $50. I never asked for it nor did he disclosed how much it would cost. I even tipped my hairstylist over 20% so a $400 haircut essentially. I messaged my hairdresser about this issue and he just told me to come in so he can take a look... I don't have time to drive 45 mins for someone to look at my hair. I would like someone to tell me they will fix it and it was their mistake. My intuition tells me it's not worth coming back. I just can't trust his work ethic or the salon. Transparency and honesty is so essential.

But the most disappointing, and concerning part was the attempt to shift responsibility onto me rather than simply acknowledging the delay. As a business owner myself, I believe accountability and transparency are essential. When a business can't take responsibility for its own scheduling issues and instead blames the customer, it raises serious concerns and makes me question the ethics and how this business might handle more serious issues, and for this reason, I hope to encourage their management team and any potential clients to reflect on how important accountability and honest communication is!

I was able to get an appointment within a week and the stylist Luis gave the option to have her wash her hair at home with shampoo and conditioner and arrive with wet hair or use the communal hair washing bowl. He assured that they clean it after every use, but it is about what my (elderly) mother was comfortable with. She elected to show up with wet hair. Writing this review based on her feedback, as I only dropper her off and picked her up. You are allowed to wait in the waiting area, with mask and chairs a spread out to comply social distancing. She reported that when you enter and before you get seated in your chair, they ask you to wash your hands. While you are washing your hands she observed that Luis was sanitizing the chair at his station and placed a fresh plastic covering on it. My mother was asked to remove the mask from the ear loops and hold it against her mouth and face. The tools were in the typical sanitizing fluid at the station. The stylist was wearing a mask the entire time. She felt save with the covid precautions taken. Sidenote: my mom is in the high-risk age category and has not really gone outside doing "normal" things since march. So this haircut was a treat but also only allowed thanks to the precautions PhD for Hair was doing. She said she will go back to get her hair colored.
