My expectation was maybe more of a farm, but it's definitely accommodation-first with a few animals & fields. Very friendly folks. We stayed in one of the two-bedroom cabins, which are the budget option compared to the nicer, much more expensive cottages. Everything about its finish was functional but plain which was fine; the only bothersome attribute was paper-thin interior walls. Like, you could whisper in one room and hear it in the next.

Watch out for koalas in trees, kangaroo crossings, and speed signs listed in kilometers instead of miles. For an American who has always driven on the right side, the left side feels like the wrong side to say the least. It's disorienting but manageable. The Great Ocean Road is exactly what it sounds like a big road along the coast. It's exactly like driving on PCH in California except without real estate marring nature's perfect landscape. The Great Ocean Road is a great place to contemplate the meaning of life and realizing that you're living the dream.

We booked a Motel Room at the Loch Ard Motor Inn online as a last-minute deal in November 2021. We…read morestayed at the Loch Ard for 2 nights - 30/12/2021 and 31/12/2022. The Room was pretty good for a mid-range Motor Inn. (The price per night was elevated bc of the time of year, but that was okay as there wouldn't be a lot of business in the cold Winter months.) The Queen bed was comfortable, and the room was spacious! The room had everything it claimed it would! The wi-fi connection in the room was some times hit and miss - but the Internet connection was hit and miss all over Port Campbell.. The balcony was the best feature of the room. (We spent loads of time on the balcony, especially on New Years Eve. We got a full view of the Fire Works @ 9:30pm and didn't have to go anywhere.) The Lock Ard Motor Inn is in the perfect position in Port Campbell. Diagonally opposite the Lock Ard Motor Inn is the beach - so a 100 metre walk and you're on sand. At the Loch Ard Motor Inn, one is situated in the middle of the scattered little gift ships and eateries. The Lock Ard Motor Inn is definitely the place to go! (Unfortunately we left it too late to book there this year, and are staying just up the road from the Loch Ard Motor Inn. We are totally disappointed with our accommodation this year, and it cost more. Luckily we love Port Campbell - enough for us to come back for the 4th year in a row, just as a little getaway for my partner and I after the craziness of Christmas!)

Mind you, if it wasn't for the fact that there is a huge sign on the Great Ocean Road that says 'Boggy Creek Pub, pub of historical significance' I doubt anybody would actually know about it. Mind you, I did, but that is because I am an Internet fiend and learnt about it weeks before I actually took a drive down the road. I should say that it is pretty much your typical Australian country pub, right down to the locals, and a part of me wonders whether the locals are actually a part of the tourist attraction (because if they're not, they probably don't think much of the endless streams of tourists that come through here - if that actually happens). Still, this is a pretty cool pub, and has a pretty decent deck where you can sit with your beer admiring the Australian countryside.

The host harvests fresh eggs for her amazing breakfasts which include greens from her gardens, among other delectables. The host is a great guide for tourists who may need guidance and advice (we stayed with her for 4 days and she gave us a perfect itinerary each day). Our host calls herself a crafter, which she is... however we wished she could embrace the term artist... because her artwork will amaze and impress you: from sculptures, to quilts, to paintings and more... she is a true visionary.
