I was reluctant to switch to an Ob/GYN after my prior experience using midwives. I was very happy with the level of care I received. All of the doctors/nurses were very thorough and attentive. I had questions and they gave me answers I could understand and make informed decisions on. In the end, we delivered with Dr. Justiss. We could not have been happier to have her deliver our baby. She kept us calm during the birth and listened to my needs. I would like nothing more than for her to deliver our next child. We highly recommend Bham Obgyn. read more

My experience at this clinic has been great! There are 5 doctors that work here and all of them are knowledgable and compassionate. I wasn't sure at first if I'd like seeing more than one doctor but it's worked really well. Seems like it's easier to get an appointment because there's more flexibility with 5 doctors. The office is large, clean, and has new equipment. They have two full ultrasound suites so you don't need to leave to go elsewhere for ultrasounds, which is super convenient. read more

As an IVF patient pregnant with a high risk pregnancy the level of care for a patient going through an infertility treatment was completely inaccessible. Going through losing one twin in the first trimester, several ER visits, hematoma and high risk diagnosis it is appalling at the complete disregard for care. The reception staff was rude and coldly express they are "Not accepting new patients for July." Subsequently she blamed this on the doctors. Its incredible that the office turn down insured patients based on on their due dates when their website states nothing in regard to limitations on maternity care based upon due date. UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNETHICAL in every way. While the doctor's care is graded well on sites, the ability to see those doctors is impossible. Absolutely appalled at the lack of compassion for my high risk pregnancy. read more

The staff are atrocious and disrespectful. They repeatedly refused to listen to my concerns about my IUD placement (I've had the issue before) and acted as if I knew nothing about my own body. They were reluctant to schedule me an appointment within a timely manner as they deemed the situation "non urgent" despite being told by a provider in this very clinic to come in ASAP if I noticed anything unusual. I tried speaking with the office manager about the staffs' behavior and all she could say was "I'm sorry you feel that way." I am looking for a new ob/gyn. read more

The front desk staff and nurses at BOGA are all wonderful, but the same cannot be said for the overly busy doctors and nurse practitioners. This doctor group caused a relatively simple problem to evolve into a monumental one because they were too busy to fit me into an appointment after I called multiple times complaining of pain following a procedure they performed. Not only were they too busy, but they were also dismissive of my complaints because my symptoms did not fit into their textbook knowledge of what symptoms I should be having following said procedure. As a result, my issue went untreated (and grew exponentially worse and more painful) for several weeks until I finally switched doctors. read more

I absolutely loved BOGA! Every staff member I have met has been nice and patient even as they were extremely busy. I loved Dr Kaepernick and Dr Russo, who did my 3rd csection and did a great great job. Yes they are busy but I have only really waited once and it was during the Holidays so totally understandable. When I really needed to be seen for possible complications, they got me in right away. They do the ultrasounds and labs there so that is super convenient. Everybody there also just makes it a very special time. read more

All friendly and knowledgeable. However it's comprised of 5 doctors that work as a "team" so you rarely see the same Dr. twice in a row. So unfortunately you never create that "bond" with your OB that will be delivering your baby, you end up repeating yourself at almost every Dr. appt. , and if you don't like one of the Dr's or nurses you may end up having to let them deliver your baby if they are the one on call. I got lucky and like them all. I'll continue to use them for my Gyn, however If we decide to have any more babies I'll be looking for a smaller more personalized office. read more

My husband and I recently moved to Bellingham and were looking for a provider to deliver our second baby. We received a recommendation to Bellingham OB/GYN, and I called to make an appointment as I was told it could be difficult to secure a spot. On my initial call, I asked the receptionist if it was possible to make an appointment to meet a doctor, talk through basic birth options/care available, and visit the facility as a prospective patient. I was told they "don't do" those appointments--basically, scheduling an appointment was agreeing to confirm to their services for my full pregnancy and delivery. To me, not allowing prospective patients to meet with a doctor and collect information on topics ranging from C-sections to high risk pregnancies to post-birth care is tone deaf at best, unethical at worst. Attempting to salvage what I could from the conversation with the receptionist (the practice was a referral from a friend, and I wanted to make it work), I asked a simple question about delayed cord clamping and skin to skin contact post-birth--the receptionist didn't know what those things were so could not give me an answer. It then took her 10 minutes to find an available appointment based on my estimated due date; she had me on hold three separate times because she couldn't find availability 4-6 weeks out from our call (another red flag). I still made the appointment because, at the time, I hadn't identified another option. In the interim, I performed additional research on Bellingham OB/GYN and asked around for opinions--I received wide-ranging feedback, but growing information that they were not the practice for me. The day before my original appointment was scheduled, I called to cancel (just ahead of the 24-hour cancellation notice they "appreciate," as stated on their website). I asked again about the option of meeting with a doctor to discuss pregnancy care and delivery; they again declined. When I then asked to cancel, the receptionist put me on hold, only to come back to confirm my cancellation and state that if I ever wanted to schedule an appointment with them in the future that I would first need to pay a cancellation fee. This is despite the fact that there is no cancellation fee mentioned on their website, that I still called in advance of the "requested" 24-hour cancellation period, and that I have never actually been to the facility or signed any kind of agreement/acknowledgement of cancellation policies. I realize they are busy and that last minute cancellations are a hassle, but -again- it feels tone deaf and uncaring. These combined experiences have only confirmed in my mind that this is not the place for me, my family, or our new baby. I hope that Bellingham OB/GYN reviews their policies with a view on what is best for their patients, as opposed to what is most convenient for them. read more

I phoned the office, needing to be seen for severe heavy post menopausal bleeding. I was told to have my primary send over a referral and then I could schedule the appointment. After going through those hoops of being seen, having the referrals created, phone tag, etc. Two days later I phone back to get the appointment only to be told that they are short providers and are unable to get me in because they can't get me in timely. I am so frustrated. I feel like I'm going to bleed to death before I can get any help. I understand them being short on providers, but tell me that at the initial call so I don't waste my time trying to jump through all the hoops to get in to see you. read more

First, the front desk, doctor and nurses were very friendly. Yesterday was my first time there...glad to get an appointment because they are very busy. It took about a month to get the appointment. That being said, I was very disappointed and upset over services rendered. I received an ultrasound for an IUD that was out of place a month before my appointment...so that Bellingham OB/GYN would know where to look and excavate without too much trouble. I had called Mount Baker Imaging and my general doc to make sure that info would get to Bell OBGYN. I called OBGYN to make sure they'd look for the ultrasound. When I arrived, I told my nurse and she was unaware of the ultrasound. When my doc came in, I told her as well...and she was also unaware and said this was something they handle regularly...not to worry. So what could have been a routine, somewhat speedy procedure of removal and re-insertion became an hour and a half of torture. Dilation was a little extreme, then needing to ask for the long-handled alligator clamps because she needed to have an implement with a very long reach, coupled with comments like, "this is really painful...but if you need to tell us to stop and make another appointment where we numb you and put you under the ultrasound so we can see what we're doing..."....wait what??? That's what SHOULD have happened right away! If they would have looked at the ultrasound in advance, maybe they could have accommodated me more comfortably and with much less stress! This to me is very negligent and sounds like malpractice. At that point, I did NOT want to make a second appointment. I just wanted it to be done. I have had several IUDs and none have been this uncomfortable and downright painful. One star because at least they were friendly while hurting me. The second for finally finding the IUD and completing the job. Ouch. read more

I want to share our experience with facility. These days is hard to judge a place to do business with base on there online reviews only cause I know that the majority of the customer that are happy won't take the time to express there experience online. That said this OB facility has satisfied us way Beyond our expectations. The staff here is just amazing from the Reseptionist to all the Doctors. Every visit we had was pleasant and very helpful. They made sure we understood the process step by step. I want to give a huge shout out to Dr. Kaepernick and Dr. Russo at time of our childbirth we had a difficult delivery reaching 49hrs but the doctors never gave up on us they were there like family would, making sure we had all the support necessary to get through this. At the end we end up with a beautiful BabyGirl and a great experience to remember the rest of our life. read more

Doctor said I should have surgery. I said fine and told the scheduler to get everything pre-authorized by insurance. I told her if she couldn't get pre-authorization, do not book the surgery. They booked it. A month later I get a bill for over $1,000. Insurance denied some of the procedures. Do not trust this practice! They only care about money. read more

I started to miscarry and these guys told me they couldn't see me for two weeks. (Even though I had a history of needing progesterone during a pregnancy and since I was experiencing sudden heavy bleeding.) They still would not fit me into their busy schedule for TWO weeks. Thank goodness I went to my General Practitioner who prescribed progesterone suppositories and the bleeding stopped almost immediately. Needless to say, I was so angry that this practice refused to see me in a moment of desperation, that I delivered my baby in Everett to avoid these doctors altogether. The doctors in Everett were amazing. I just felt that in an urgent situation Bellingham OBGYN was not willing to help. read more

I have mixed feelings about this practice. Unfortunately the cons definitely outweigh the pros. Here's my thoughts about it; Pros; ultrasound and labs are done within the same office. Some of the nurses are great. Dr Kapernick was wonderful; very thorough and friendly. The office is conveniently located right by the hospital and is aesthetically attractive. Cons; You are not able to select your provider. You are assigned to whoever is available at that time. The wait time was consistently 20-30 min past my appointment time. The receptionists are not very welcoming or friendly. When you enter the office they direct you to awkwardly wait just inside the door until they are ready to help you. My appt was usually 2-3xs as long as they estimated so I would have to go on my days off. I found a few of the nurses to be very insensitive and unsympathetic. Their patient portal only allows one-way communication; the care team can send you messages but they have intentional disabled the messaging system so patients cannot message them or even reply to their messages. I was told by their nurse it is because they don't have time to answer messages on the portal. They charge you $40 to complete your FMLA paperwork, which seems absolutely absurd to me, especially in a specialty such as OB where an overwhelming number of patients will their paperwork competed for maternity leave. I was told to contact my insurance company to see if they covered genetic testing for advanced maternal age patients. My insurance company said they required pre-authorization from the health care provider. I went into the office to request this and was told "we don't call insurance companies, it's the patients responsibility." I explained I needed a pre-authorization and my insurance company requested they call them. They told me they don't do that. They just wait for it to be rejected first and then will pursue it if the patient requests it after the denial. He whole process felt very impersonal. My overall impression is that they are too busy to attend to patients' needs and care more about getting paid than providing quality care. So needless to say, I will not be returning nor would I recommend this practice. read more

I received care here from 5 different clinicians from when I was 8 to 31 weeks pregnant. 2/5 of the clinicians took the time to ask if I had any questions and gave me thorough answers. Unfortunately, the others seemed very rushed. Those clinicians made me feel like I was talked at, not listened to. Also, no matter what time of day I came in (sometimes the first patient of the day), I would have to wait for 5-10 minutes to check in and another 5-30 minutes in the waiting room. The front desk people forgot to tell me about different blood tests and urine samples I needed to complete about 50% of the time, making me have to wait around until I had to pee again or I'd find myself suddenly getting my blood drawn. In all the time I asked what the tests were for, they weren't able to tell me. Overall this was a very busy clinic and their communication amongst themselves and to patients was poor to mediocre. I did like all of the sonographers I met: they were timely and friendly. I switched over to the PeaceHealth midwives in Cordata when I was 32 weeks pregnant and was so happy that I did. read more

I called to make a new patient appointment for basic care and was told that I had to have a referral from a primary care doctor, even though this is not required by my insurance. This was after the receptionist had already told me that they were accepting new patients for basic care. When I pressed her about this, she was rude and also said that they would not see me for anything that was not expressly written on the referral. Imagine my annoyance when I talked to the nurse at my primary care doctor's office and found out that it is Washington state law that a woman can self refer herself to ANY gynecologist she wants! I will not go to this office as they only seem after issues to bring in money. read more

I have used this office for two pregnancies now and my recent miscarriage. I had gone with a midwife, which did not help me whatsoever directing me to wrong sources, it was horrific. While, yes it is somewhat sad that one of my favorite doctors has yet to deliver any of my babies and some docs are better than others in the practice, I absolutely LOVE them. They have been there for us as a family whenever needed. I had called them even though I had not gone through them with this last pregnancy and they somehow managed to squeeze me in for a D&C. The compassion and caring care is beyond belief. I know they are a very busy practice and sometimes it can feel a little hectic, however, so far I can only say I love them. I tried a midwife and though the care was personal, it was nowhere near the expertise of these knowledgeable doctors. I was never pressured to do certain things or was not booked in between appointments when I had worries. I can only say, the level of care is superb. The great part is it is composed of multiple doctors with a ton of medical knowledge and it is wonderful they all work together on rendering the best care possible for their patients. The nurses have all been incredibly nice and the front desk staff has always been kind and very patient. I am excited to use their practice for hopefully one or two more times. read more

Dr. Lisa Kaepernick used a morcellator device to perform my hysterectomy. This since has been shown to be very dangerous and has been removed from the market. It was not explained to me that this could create lymph damage causing my legs to swell. Luckily I did not have the catastrophic results that others have had where use of this device has spread cancer. I would not recommend Dr. Kaeperick. read more
