As a first time physical therapy recipient, I chose Bellingham Physical Therapy due to its proximity to my office. However, after the third visit I stopped going. Why? Simply put... I was expecting more. More hands on work and more interaction. What did I get? Verbal Education in my problem area for a large portion of my visit followed by handouts of the exercises I needed to do at home. Hands on was lackluster and limited. It wasn't until I went to a different therapist that I realized that leaving Bellingham Physical Therapy was a good decision for me. They immediately had me doing exercises followed by intramuscular stimulation and acupuncture. I feel that the focus on my problem and the efficient use of time was well worth the money spent. PT is not cheap! Wish I could get my money back... With all that said, I do want to say that I did appreciate the front office staff who are friendly and positive. read more

The technical capability there is good, but after a number of failures to communicate in a timely manner, including responses to me (the patient) and with my insurance management, I had to discontinue seeing them. Services were disrupted as a result of their deficiencies, and that's sad, since I had made good progress during therapy. read more

Bellingham Physical Therapy is one of the friendliest physical therapy places I've been to. They're so nice - every time I arrived soaking wet from a bike ride through rainy Bellingham, they'd put my clothes in the dryer so that they were warm and dry when I was done. I came all the way down to Sehome Village twice a week, even though I live next to Barkley Village and there are much closer places I could have gone to. Cheryl is awesome - she totally fixed my sciatica for a couple hours after every visit. read more

After one visit I have to say Wow! My mobility improved measurably during my knee appointment. I was not sent home with a gazillion exercises, just two simple stretches. Refreshingly different approach than any other PT I've been to. Yay to finally finding a PT that listens, cared, and seems to genuinely enjoy (and be competent at) their job! Went in with both lower back issues. I was told in essence 'you have good range of motion so your back is not so bad' and was given some stretching exercises. Given the lack on knowledge/insight, which is what I went in for, I didn't bother going back and would have rated three stars. Fast forward one year, back about the same or perhaps a bit worse, so I head to a chiropractor, who sends me right in for x-rays. They reveal serious lumbar disk degeneration and arthritis. Given that, the stretching exercises advised by BPT was the wrong advice - they involved rounding my back, which pushes the disk into the nerves. I described the same symptoms to both BPT and to the chiropractor. I did not feel that BPT even listened. The chiropractor not only listened, but then said 'and I'll bet you have trouble with [this] also'. Bingo. I am not saying BPT should have sent me for x-rays, I don't even know whether they can, but they certainly could have suggested it. Perhaps I am expecting too much from a physical therapy office, but I feel like I lost a year here. read more

I have been to 7 physical therapists in my life, and the one I went to here was the worst. I saw Chris. I only went to one session. I have a very complicated chronic condition (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome), so not many physical therapists can deal with me. It affects my neck, so it can be dangerous if someone unknowledgeable handles my care. I was assured that the physical therapist that they sent me to would be qualified to handle it. When I got there, all the rooms were full and we had to wait for another patient to be done. I would have been fine with that if the appointment had gone well. Throughout the appointment she kept forgetting the name of my condition, but still tried to give me (often false) information about it. Afterwards, I was in so much pain I could barely walk, and my extremities were numb because of the nerves pinched in my neck. She tried to play it off like it was normal for people with my condition to be in pain after the first appointment, but I have been to enough physical therapists to know that that is not true. She was not willing to admit that it was her fault. It has been a week since the appointment, and I am still in more pain than I have ever been in. I have barely been able to get out of bed. If you have an acute injury, this place may be fine. But if you have a chronic condition, I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

I LOVE this place! I have been to PT many years ago and I really disliked it. However, I find this place so friendly and accommodating from the front end staff to Darryl, my PT. He is a wonderful person and helped me a lot in every visit (I was prescribed six). I feel 100% better. I went in with a bad rotator cuff and he gave me exercises and massaged it every visit. I really looked forward to all my appointments. I miss them. I have already decided to have PT there and nowhere else, when I have knee replacement surgery. We live in Kirkland and Bellingham, so they MUST be doing the job! I was on a walk today and one of the ladies and I were talking about PT. She said that she had the best therapist and I said that I did. We laughed when we discovered that we both had gone to Darryl. Every appointment, he was right on time. I've referred patients to this clinic for years and recently had the need to go in myself. The therapists are top-notch, as is their facility. I received excellent attention and advice and feel like my visits will help me avoid more significant hip problems later in life. Preventive medicine! Bellingham physical therapy has a fairly knowledgeable staff and did seem to have plenty of experience in the field. Their therapy and exercises brought me a long way in my recovery from rotator cuff surgery. However, despite this, I cannot recommend them due to some irresponsibility from their billing department. I was given a certain number of physical therapy visits from my surgeon, which I knew but did not keep track of (technically my fault) as the visits went by. My insurance would only cover PT visits up until this number had been reached. Apparently, Bellingham PT did not keep track, either. They kept billing my insurance until it was denied. Unfortunately, they did not receive this denial until after I had already racked up an additional 3 visits - to the tune of almost $1000. Because of this, I had to pay the amount out of pocket. I consider this failure to keep track of visits very unprofessional, given my experience in other physical therapy places. As a result, while the physical therapists themselves were helpful, I cannot recommend them. If I were to have any advice to someone who needed to go to them, it would be to keep track of your own insurance and visits yourself, because they will not do it for you in any way, shape, or form. read more

I've been thoroughly impressed with the depth of knowledge and level of care that I've received from Clare. Having been plagued with chronic low back pain for several years, I've tried other PTs, chiropractic, and massage therapy and results were temporary improvements at best. I'd nearly given up hope of getting better, but Clare took a different approach and motivated me to continue striving to get better. She was able to analyze and diagnose what was going on with my back better than any doctors I'd seen. The homework I was given each week came in bite sized chunks but over time led to some pretty major lifestyle changes. Six months later and things have drastically improved and I feel equipped to keep the pain away long term thanks to Clare. read more

John McWilliams is a talented and caring physical therapist. He is a good listener and has a positive approach. Most recently he successfully guided me back to hiking and biking after a grueling knee event with the help of Renee as assistant and Marcia, Brittany, Marilyn, Kathy, and Ashley at the front desk. Other physical therapists and assistants also work here and on occasion I have had the pleasure of working with many of them with positive results. There is very little turnover in this office which I consider a big plus! Always welcoming and friendly. Knowledgeable about insurance. I have utilized the expertise of this office for multiple issues over many years. I have tried other offices and have never gotten such good service. In addition to their practice John and Marcia are active community members supporting youth sports. John shepherds students of PT assisting as well as those going through physical therapy school. Great people all around. I highly recommend them. read more
