The Belmont Tavern is, at best, hit and miss. At worst, it is a pain. I do keep going back for two reasons. One because it is so close to my house and there is not much else around and two because when they have a good night, it really is a great night out. I am convinced if they had more competition in the area, they would be forced to lift their game and it would be perfect.
For example, one night I will go there with some friends and we will be seated straight away, service is fast and the meals come in generous servings. No matter what you get, (steak, pasta, salad, cob loaf, chicken) it is delicious and everyone at the table has a fantastic meal. Then, I came here last Thursday night with a couple of people. The line to order was not big but the service was really slow. When we got to the counter they had 'run out' of 2 of the 4 things we wanted to order, then something happened and they had to enter our order again. Later, after waiting an hour for food were informed they had charged us twice. On the plus side, the girl at the till seemed genuinely good at what she does but had a slow register and only half the menu to work with. Also, once you get your food, it is always in generous portions and really tasty.
So, sometimes it is a 5 star rating and sometimes it a 2 star, and I compromised on 4 stars overall. read more
