I wasn't sure what to think when I first walked by Belo Fashions. Like many of the clothing/seamstress shops in the area, the windows displayed cheesy prom dresses and fashions with a throw back to the early 90s. The dresses were POUFFY, to say the least and I never thought I'd step foot inside.... Until the day came last summer that I had to find a very specific bridesmaids dress. As I had never been in a bridal party before, I figured I could just go into any bridal show and order it, but ran into a lot of dead ends when I first started looking. I decided to phone up the dress' manufacturer in the city and see if I could locate it by store. Finally! Lucky me, that the one store that had it was a mere five minute walk from home! So, bonus points for Belo for even having the very unique dress I was looking for! Upon going inside, I was bombarded by chiffon, lace, satin, silk, and any kind of fabric you can think of! Belo Fashions is a big store with a lot of dresses inside. They specialize in bridal dresses, prom dresses and do custom fitting and tailoring. It is family owned and operated and there is usually a very cute toddler bouncing around and hiding in the racks, a frantic mom trying to keep the baby and the store front in order, and a number of ladies milling about offering to help you at every turn. The seamstress I dealt with was an elderly Portugese lady and she was equally lovely and talented. In only two days, she reworked my dress and did a fantastic job! As far as prices go for the seamstress work, I ended up paying about $100 in alterations which, yes, I found to be pricey, but later learned that it was pretty standard for what I had done. I recommend Belo for alterations because they do a superb job! Belo Fashions have been in business for over 30 years and their experience and customer service truly shine. Don't be frightened by the extremely large dresses in the window display. I was pleasantly surprised not only to find my own dress, but to see that they have a number of chic dresses of all kinds. My family and I ended up at Belo because of their excellent reviews on Yelp. And let me tell you, the women of Belo Fashions Boutique did not disappoint. If you are looking for a dress for a formal occasion, you NEED to shop at Belo's. They have large collection of dresses to choose from and the customer service was fantastic. We were there shopping for my cousin's prom dress, and she ended up falling in love with a two piece dress in fire engine red- that was both elegant and timeless. They informed my friends and I of all the details of the dresses we were interested in, whether it be sizing, ordering details, when shipment would be expected, etc. I did not end up purchasing my dress from this boutique, though it was a top contender! read more

My first experience with Belo Fashions was as a bridesmaid, picking out dresses for a friends wedding. One of the owners, Susan, is an absolute pleasure to work with. She spent quite a bit of time with us, despite having no appointment, clipping and pinning us into multiple dresses to show us what it might look like when they were in the proper size. She pulled options we may not even have thought of, and was nothing but pleasant the entire time, despite the fact that we left that day without purchasing anything. We did go back and order our dresses there, and I have since gone back to order my girl's bridesmaids dresses there as well, after a bad experience at another bridal salon. All the staff I have encountered are incredibly pleasant and helpful, treating you as a friend rather than just a customer. I will be taking my wedding dress there for alterations, despite having purchased it elsewhere, as the service just can't be beat!! read more

Had an absolutely terrible experience with Belo Fashion back in 2007. I was about 13 years old at the time and was looking for a confirmation dress. I went in with my mother and found a nice dress that I liked and had it fitted to me. I came back in once all the alterations had been done and found that the dress was still a little loose (I was a pretty skinny kid) and I felt uncomfortable with it as I was worried it would slide down on me. My mother told the woman that my dress needed further alterations and the woman told my mother that maybe if she'd fed me better that I wouldn't be so skinny and wouldn't need more alterations. I went home in tears that day. At school the other children had already teased me and said that I looked anorexic and now an ADULT had just attacked my physical appearance as well. I was only a little girl. Needless to say my mother was very angry and we left without further alterations. Unfortunately the dress had already been paid for so I was forced to wear the loose dress on my confirmation day. It has been 7 years since then and I have never forgotten the terrible experience I had there as a child and I will never again return. Since that day I have made sure to tell anyone who considers going there my experience and how awfully I was treated. From the other reviews it seems others have had pleasant experiences and I'm glad as I wouldn't wish for anyone to go through the experience I did. I, however, will not be returning. read more

Belo Fashions is an amazing store from the options of dresses to choose from right to the customer service. My daughter was in search of all of Toronto for a grad dress. Our last 2 options were Want Boutique on Avenue and Belo Fashions Boutique. She found a dress at both stores. Want never called us back with the order so we went ahead with the Belo Fashions. She preferred that dress anyways. The price was reasonable for a grad dress and they were so amazing with my daughter. They went the extra mile to make sure the dress would be perfect for her Grade 8 grad. I definitely recommend this store to anyone looking for a wedding gown, prom dress and anything else. It was a bit random that I wound up in Belo looking for my wedding dress last year, but when I walked in, I was immediately impressed at the responsiveness of the staff (especially when compared with other bridal stores). I immediately told them my budget, and they brought me downstairs to their "bargain basement". They knew to not try to up-sell me!! Long story short, I found my dream dress. They were supportive, helped me see what worked and what didn't. They gave me a great deal on the dress and alterations. The seamstress did an amazing job on the alterations and each of my 3 fittings were timely and straightforward. Everything was done beautifully and I was so happy with the dress on my wedding day! I brought my wedding dress to Belo Fashions to have a few minor alterations done. 1. cup inserts 2. bustle 3. steam - which came to just under $500. As far as I was concerned, this was very pricey, but the woman said that was the best she could do. When I came back to get it fitted, the cup inserts looked as though they had been pinned in. I asked if the dress was complete, and she said yes they just had to steam it. Basically, anyone taller then me would be able to see the cups as they were not sewn in. So I asked for them to finish that job. I picked the dress up the day before my wedding and brought it to my Maid-of-Honor's house where we hung it and draped it just as they shop instructed. When my bridesmaid that used to work at a bridal shop saw the dress, she steamed it for me, as she did not think that it had been steamed yet (a $250 job that I paid for, btw!). Throughout my wedding day I had to continue to slip the fabric from the inserts down, as it kept rising above the dress. Then after about 30 minutes of having my bustle pinned (note that there were 2 hooks) 1 hook broke off and the other hook ripped my lace. As a result of the bustle not doing what it was supposed to, my dress dragged throughout the evening and the entire bottom is dark grey of dirt. DO NOT BRING YOUR WEDDING DRESS HERE! I contacted them right after my wedding, and a month later, I have yet to hear anything. read more
