With all of the download possibilities around these days, I (old ColecoVision player that I was) I…read morewas completely unfamiliar with GameStop. Nevertheless, my tech-saavy 6-year-old grandson (G2) fixed that in the figurative click of a controller. Apparently G2 had sold several of his other "games" so he could buy a "Mario Party" for his system.. (I hope I have these details right.) Mommie & Daddy said it was ok....so off we went. Into the store we go, and shy G2 timidly tells the clerk ("DJ") that he wants a "Mario Party". (For all I know that could have been paper plates, balloons, and streamers.) DJ leans down and asks what kind of system he has, naming something or other, to which G2 says, "No....I have a PS 4." G2, then goes on to tell DJ all about his system, controllers, etc...as I stand there dumbfounded. DJ is very, very solicitous and that is the gist of this review. His courtesy and professionalism in dealing with a very, very young customer (and this clueless old geezer) was absolutely 5 star. The store is relatively small (kinda looks like someone threw water on an old Blockbuster and it shrank.) But there are quite a few games and other assorted gizmos and gadgets and such. Only thing I didn't see was a preview station where you might be able to try out a game or two. But, then again...I doubt if anyone has any old Pong or Frogger cartridges I could try out.

Me and my friend went to trade in a PS4 at 11:30am, the first employee we saw was helpful and nice…read morebut he said we needed a charger for a controller, a controller, and an HDMI chord, we asked if we needed a charger for the console he said they had one he could take off with the credit. So we got everything and came back at 8:40pm, another employee who was much worse and lazier. Already looked like he wasn't going to help us when I said we were trading in. And then he said we needed a power cable for the ps4, and that he couldn't help us. And then I said, 'no actually someone already said they could", and my friend described him. Dylan *sighed, oh Joji. Then I said, 'yeah he actually scanned a power cable earlier, so you just ran out?!?' And he said, 'yeah I just sold the last one 20mins ago.

The daughter being done with her Master's program at Vanderbilt was looking for a place to…read moreoffload/sell her nursing textbooks. She found McKay's online and it seemed to be the best place to do that. Wow -- we were not prepared for the massiveness of this super, super busy place! Being our first time and not knowing how it all worked, it didn't take us long to figure out where to go and what to do. There wasn't much of a line when we started. We placed her books in a bin, then waited to be called by a greeter. Our greeter quickly explained the process, gave the daughter a claim ticket, then we waited. In the 40 minutes it took for her claim number to come up on the screen, we were able to walk through most of the sections and pick out a couple things to buy. I was quite surprised to find so many things beyond books -- DVDs, VHS, vinyl records, CDs, cassette tapes, clothing, Pokémon cards, instruments, game consoles, accessories, Legos, toys, comic books, etc. It was seriously amazing. My daughter decided to take her sale in trade which gave her about 50% more to spend. For the books they didn't buy she was given the option to take them back or donate them there. She chose to donate. The husband loves old movies, art and music -- he will absolutely enjoy McKay's. I can't wait to bring him here! The parking lot is as massive, so I don't think there's ever an issue with that.

I was so excited to get back to McKay's for the first time in years. I was completely taken aback…read moreby the prices of books here now. Many books I found were overpriced for used books. There's no pricing system based on book condition, which would be nice. You may find a book in fair condition and pay the same amount for the same book in excellent condition. Customer service was great as always.

An amazing experience overall! Perfect? Not quite - but worthy of 5 stars anyway…read more The good/great: The games! Holy cow! Most of the video games are free to play during your stay. It's awesome. There's a huge selection of all the old classics (Joust, Dig Dug, Pac Man, all the Donkey Kongs, Paperboy - you name it!). Even if you play them all just once, you'll kill a lot of time. Some of the higher end games cost a token or two - that's fine by me, I get it. All the pinball games require tokens - also fine, as the tokens are fairly priced. I LOVE pinball, so I made the rounds playing all my favorites (notably Fishtails, Funhouse, and the KISS pinballs). I felt like a kid in a candy store on a shopping spree! The not so great: We ordered food and it was kinda "meh". The fried food looked and tasted like it was cooked in old, expired oil. Gross. The chicken tenders were overcooked. I hope this was a one-off. The people working there were super friendly and helpful. It's kind of located in a strange part of town, but don't let that stop you from going! Try to get there when it opens so you can have the run of the floor for a while. It can get busy!

So this was actually a super fun night. We went on a Thursday and got there about 5:30. It's free…read moreto enter and about half of all of the games in the building are free to play. Classic video games like Pac-Man that kind of stuff. There are tons of pinball machines which you have to pay to play. Most of them are one token but there's one special one that's five tokens. One token=$1. There's also a bunch of outside patio games that you can play. We actually came because they were playing bingo, which is also free to play and it was really fun. Started at 7:00 and had actual prizes that you could win. We got a gift card for five dollars that you could use for food or drinks. The french fries at this arcade/bar. We're actually some of the best I've had in a long time you can tell they're definitely fresh cut and cooked when they order them. I had the chipotle burger, and it was really good and one of my party had the mushroom Swiss burger and loved it and we also got the nachos. It's a little bit more expensive than a casual sit down, but the atmosphere was fun. Wheelchair accessibility: everything was really open and there was a nice long steady ramp up to the front door. There was a zero rise entry and the bathroom was pretty good. The soap was a little bit high. There is no seating that is not barstool height in the front where the bingo was and so that would be difficult, but there is some seating on the patio that's accessible. The games are all old-school cabinet style games and so it would be a little bit high for someone in a traditional wheelchair.
