She had fun on the climbing and playground equipment for about 20 minutes before getting bored with the lack of choices. Next to the playground is a sand volleyball pit, which she was able to play in for a few minutes and across the street is a field, which provided her with the most enjoyment running after birds and butterflies.

It's a great large park with a large castle like plastic playground so the kids can play princess and knight. There's another smaller playground for younger toddlers who are just mastering stepping up and sliding down. There are a few swings, a small rock climbing boulder that wouldn't do much damage if a kid fell off, and a picnic area, where my friend and I sat in the shade while the kids played. There was a camp there also, and all the kids were sitting and listening to a police K9 demo. Not far away there's a water park/swimming pool. Overall, this is a great place for kids to come and wear themselves out! I really like it and it's so adorable!

There is a glaring omission though -- a restroom of any kind. This means the average trip here is massively cut short by at least one person needing to head home to go. As my seven year old becomes more adventurous, it's fun to see her scurry around the nets, hanging upside down (even if she fell a few times), and bouncing all over the big slide with other kids. My youngest loves the Astroturf "slides" and there are also some other traditional slides. There are also attached ropes that are unique to this park so they can explore climbing in a fun way. One knock is there's a concrete slide that simply does fit in with the laws of physics. This thing goes straight down and lands onto another concrete slab. Against my best judgement, I did this with my youngest and let's just say my..backside.. is still feeling that one. But yeah, really wish there was a restroom, even a portable one, as it's a big drawback to the park to not have it. Kinda fun though, and I imagine it's ideal if you live within an easy walk of it. It took me a minute to find it as apple maps doesn't have the most accurate pin point for this spot, BUT once we found it we had a great time. The park itself is on the smaller side of things but with that it was less busy, and both of our four year olds had a blast exploring and sliding down the big slide. The main reason it gets 4/5 is that as others have noted there are no restrooms. I get that it's more of a neighborhood park, so perhaps this is by design, but it does limit our time here and we inevitably had to depart for a restroom. Will we be back? Perhaps if we are in the area, but only if we are on an empty bladder.

Plus, the historic Waldo water tower is located on the northern edge. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a well-known symbol for the neighborhood. We mainly utilize the playground. The kids love it! There are two primary structures, one being for small toddlers, and the other for bigger kids. I'm not thrilled with the fact that there is a large sand pit (man, kids love sand, but I do not unless it is on a beach.) Within the sand is a metal car that children can climb on. The baby swings are also there. There is a separate area for regular swings. In addition to the variety of equipment, there is seating available (bench, picnic table) and parking close by. There are also some trees that shade parts of the playground. On the weekends, especially in the nicer months, the picnic shelters are usually occupied. The playground also tends to get really crowded, and not as many parents are hanging out like on the weekdays. The majority of folks we have played with at the playground have been really mellow, open to talking/playing, and quite nice. This is not always the case at playgrounds, so it is a nice change of pace from snobbery. We've had a couple slightly negative experiences, but nothing that would keep us from going back.

It has all of the above except for the toddler swings. Not an end-all for us because, honestly, my toddler mainly just collects rocks and sticks the whole time and has a blast doing so. The Mission Hills Playground it located behind the…read moreMission Hills City Hall (accessible from Mission Drive, between Tomahawk and 63rd Street) sits secluded, surrounded by verdant trees that shield it from the road. The playground equipment is suitable for children of various ages, including a rock climbing wall, monkey bars, slides, a fireman's pole and other such features. For my preschool children, the monkey bars are too high to reach, but they are able to enjoy themselves with all of the other attractions. The especially love to climb on the twisted green curve structure, the likes of which I have never seen on another playground, and to go down the steep slides. The park feels very safe due to both its isolation and the regular comings and goings of police officers into the City Hall building and parked in the lot. (Anyone who has ever driven up and down 63rd Street in this neighborhood knows well that the Mission Hills police officers like to catch speeding motorists by hiding on Mission Drive and other such small residential roads) There are three benches surrounding the playground. Usually one or two of the is in the shade at any given hour. Although it is impossible to see the entire playground from any one of the benches, the area is such that one can sit and watch his or her children playing fairly well from these seats. There is also a picnic table located off of the parking lot, near the outbuilding. Perhaps the best feature of this park is the public restrooms located in a small outbuilding off of the parking lot. As those with potty trained young children know, the need for a child to relieve himself often comes suddenly and most urgently, so it is delightful to have a clean facility on site. It is one spacious stall (with plantation shutters on the inside window, no less--swanky!), and it is clean. It remains open during daytime hours. Rumors suggest that a brick walkway to it from the playground may be added in the future.
