One guy who was up and down all night elbowed my sister and when she said "you could've said thank you he told her to fuck off. Saw police officers escort people out of the stadium just in our section. To get to ride share it is a VERY LONG walk and after being in boots for 7hrs my feet fell like they were going to fall off. A fitting, modern, expansive stadium for one of the South's great football legacies. Having been renovated and updated many times, the stadium and Florida Field still have their original location and a lot of the storied original ambience at hand plus all the modern amenities. It's just rough enough in places to remind you of its history yet gleaming enough in the right places (like the Bull Gator monument at the southwest corner) to feel impressive. The statues of UF's Heisman Trophy winners also are nicely done and very striking. read more

This is a beautiful college football stadium. It's my wife's alma mater, but that didn't influence this review. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium was already getting a positive review, without that fact, and even with Florida State, winning to stay undefeated. The Seminoles going 12-0 for the 4th time in their history after I spent a fortune on tickets to watch the Gators win again didn'qt change the review. If you have never gone to a college football game, this is where you really should go to enjoy a great day for your 1st college game experience. People tailgating in the parking lot couldn't have been nicer to each other. Gator and Seminole fans were joking back and forth about their teams without things being taken seriously. It was refreshing. While my wife, 3 sons and I were walking to the stadium from parking lot 25, we walked upon an Airstream camper transformed into a mobile bar complete with massive quantities of Jack Daniels, Pillar rum and other liquid refreshments. There was also a large tent to escape the light rain and a few large tables pushed together full of free food for EVERYONE to enjoy. There were all types of sandwiches on high-quality rye bread with Mayo, tomatoes, bacon, and about an inch think of first-class delicious meat. There were also salads, jumbo shrimp in a type of oil and vinegar liquid with red onions plus other pasta salads sitting there for everyone. Yes, both Gator and Seminole fans were invited to eat there. Where was this when I was in college??? I realized, "Damn, I went to the wrong Florida University!!!" We looked for a place to pay for the food that we had put on a Chinett plate, and my wife went to the bar. She was told all the food, Jack Daniel's, Pillar Rum, and other tasty beverages were free. The owner of "The Florida Cracker" just wanted to party with all the fans before the game and was treating everyone. We thanked him because he was the highlight of tailgating. What an unbelievable gift for walking into the stadium. What a great guy!!!! Our parking lot was lot 25. It's great if you are sitting on the north side of the stadium. We were sitting on the south side in section D in the 2nd row from the end zone on the other side but if I had the same seats again I would park in the same lot because of the people providing food to the hungry students and the old fans. It was great. Entering the stadium was crowded but moved quickly. In a matter of minutes, we were at Section D and getting ready to walk to the second row. The kids were excited about sitting 2 rows from the end zone. The last point is their philly cheesesteak sandwiches. They are 100% better than expected. I usually don't like green peppers on my cheesesteaks, but all the ingredients merged perfectly for stadium food perfection. All 5 of the 5 of us would order them again. Even my wife who grew up a few miles from Philly. It's a great place to go!!! read more

The only thing I dislike about the football games is that they are so hot but it is still something I recommend everyone in Gainesville to go to a football game. My first Gators game was a memorable experience! We had 2 seats in section 16 row 6... I did not know the seats didn't have seat backs! I'm such a newb! Next time we will pick seats in a better section or rent the $10 seat backs... but that's not what you come here for, you know you will be hot and standing so it's best to prepare for that. The fan shop sells a large variety of Gators gear including golf towels and hair bows/ scrunches to help keep your hair up and keep you cool. The staff and security were all very friendly and eager to help or answer any questions. Parking was a disaster, I would recommend getting there a few hours early to avoid the mess of parking. They had campus police and the sherif office blocking off many streets around the campus for safety and to control the crowds. read more

The SWAMP - only Gators get out alive. Coach Mullin seems to finally have us heading in the right direction so let's hope the momentum stays the course. While we enjoy games here the facility is definitely due for some upgrades. Seating and concession areas throughout can use a major overhaul. Audio and video board can also be upgraded. One thing that can't be beat is the atmosphere and pageantry of college football and the Orange and Blue does it right. From the: 1. Mr. Two Bits 2. We stop there last Saturday. It was super fun. The kids enjoyed it. They were running around like little maniacs but I love it. I even got a little work out in out there running up and down the bleachers. My son and I raced each other on the field and went up and down the bleachers to see who can do it the fastest. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, a.k.a. "The Swamp," is home to the 3-time national champion Florida Gators football team. It's located on UF's campus in Gainesville. I attended a game here and was impressed with both the size of the stadium and the atmosphere. To date, it's probably the most impressive home crowd I've experienced in person in college football, though granted, most of the games I've attended have been in smaller ACC stadiums. The SEC is a different beast when it comes to football in large part because SEC schools are generally bigger. Purely as a football stadium, I think The Swamp is fine. At the time of writing this review, it's the 11th largest college football stadium in the country, 6th largest in the SEC, and the largest stadium in the state of Florida with an official capacity of 88,548. Nothing about the stadium really stood out to me except for its size. It's really big. We took these wide circular pathways up to our seats. We were pretty far up in the northeast stands, but still had a decent view of the action. Even in the nosebleeds, the fans were loud. Inside the stadium, the walls were painted Florida orange and the fans were a vast sea of blue. Despite playing an inferior FBS non-conference opponent, UF's fans were into it and the atmosphere was raucous. The stadium is open to the public and free to visit on non-game days. Love the swamp....have been visiting for 36 years and love the environment. Would like to see some updates to the seating areas, perhaps having permanent chair-backs in more sections. With the temporary chair backs attached to the bleachers there is no legroom at all, they force the knees of the person behind you into your back, and they make it difficult to get in and out of the rows. The benches need to be farther apart or no padded temporary chairs. I would also like to see the concourse on the student side updated to match the booster side, so it doesn't feel so institutional. But by far the stadium is the best in the state as far a home field advantage! Go Gators!!!!! read more

Great stadium! Rich tradition runs through the stadium. It's very big and very loud. They recently added many different things such as new concession items, hydration station, more guest services stations, and some other things as well. Only negative thing I have about this stadium is that during halftime the lobby or foyer area on the sides of the stadium is packed, especially on the student side. You have probably 25ft worth of space and when the bathrooms are in front of the concession stands, it gets very congested and tight. So it's beneficial to go up a little early. The end zone areas are not like this, lots of room! Fans are great and kind and most of the seats are bleacher seats. It is an older stadium but it's a great stadium! They continue to make improvements every year and it really shows. read more

I can't believe I have not reviewed the football stadium of my alma mater a.k.a. The Swamp. OK well this is the best stadium in the world. No lie. And it seats like a bajillion people. Joking. According to Wikipedia, "Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is the largest football stadium in Florida, the 12th largest stadium in American college football, and the 18th largest stadium in the world, as measured by its official seating capacity of 88,548 - though, it has often held over 90,000 for Florida's home football games." So there you go....All I know is that you can no longer leave the stadium during halftime, chug down a sh*t ton of shots at the bars across the street and expect to be allowed back in the stadium. Apparently, those days are gone.... Year around, this is a great place to get some free outdoor exercise and do stadiums until your heart's content or until you literally pass out from heat exhaustion at the very top bleacher and then wake up wondering "what the hell just happened to me?" like five minutes later. True story. There is NOTHING like the amazing energy of the entire Gator Nation crammed into this gorgeous and electrifying venue especially when we are winning. Absolutely nothing. It's hard to attach any number of stars to what is in the college football world one of the greatest stadiums of all time. Enter the swap. 80,000+ seats orange and blue blue and orange the heart and soul of the University of Florida. Ben Hill Griffin Stadium may not be the most state of the art and cutting edge commercial facility as some may see at other places, there's not an outback steakhouse in there or a rib place or anything like that it's a regular concession stand and that's the way it is it's an old-school stadium. There's something about the purity and nostalgia that comes from the stadium itself. While it has grown over the years and even some sense just 15 years ago when I was last there. If you lived in Gainesville, went to Santa Fe community college, went to the University of Florida or all and any of the above chances are that you went to at least one event at this iconic stadium. One cool thing about the stadium and many others like it is that you can access it to exercise running up and down the stairs well I'm not telling you to do this but if one happen to be down at the stadium I don't know say in the time of Christmas sorry Christmas Eve day and you went for a visit well there's a good chance you might be able to sneak out on the field and snap a picture. If you look at my photos it may have happened... I don't know. So it's five stars all the way. Yes I'm a gator. No I'm not a football fanatic. However, I am a lover of the University of Florida and i've been to a variety of different major universities and some have a similar feeling much like Notre Dame but most do not. It's electrifying, loud, sensational, dominating, fun!! I traveled to Gainesville this past weekend for our homecoming game and it felt incredibly amazing to be back in the Swamp. As a member of the Gainesville society and being a Gator fan I find Ben Hill Griffin Stadium to be a perfect home for the Gators and for many other activities as well. I have traveled to over 200 college campuses in my full time position (not Yelp) and only a handful of college campuses allow students to have access to their stadiums. I think it is awesome that people embrace Ben Hill Griffin Stadium not just for football games but for everyday life as well. Most recently I decided to cross some stuff off my bucket list and went and ran the stadium. I did every set of stairs in the lower and upper bowls. This was a big task for me, but it felt great and was a cool night. I was shocked by the amount of people who were there doing the same thing. It was also nice to see that it was not just college kids but young adults, older adults, kids, and everything in between using the facilities. I have also been to Ben Hill Griffin for football games and it does not get much better than that. 90,000 people cheering on the Gators in the Swamp and it makes it a loud, fun place to watch the team. Also, their are plenty of concession stands offering hot dogs, popcorn, soda (Pepsi products), Dominos pizza, and plenty of other fun items as well. Finally, I have also been in the Gator club level and that is really nice as well. It would be a fun place for an event! I think you should all check it out! Go Gators! read more

This sensational stadium is a beauty. Two weeks ago I went with my family to pick up my son at UF and he took us to see the stadium. We loved it, it is immaculate, organized, with bathrooms and trash cans in several parts for the convenience of visitors. I'm dying to go to one of our beloved Gators' games. BHG is always a great time. It's a big, beautiful, loud stadium and I guarantee you will always have a memorable experience whenever you come here. They are constantly making improvements to the stadium but the concessions are still not the best and most importantly, they need to install fans in this place. The bleacher seats get HOT but when you step back inside the corridors it's even worse. So when people try to take a break from the heat, they leave their seats and step into what is basically a boiler room. Other than that, this is the greatest stadium on the planet. read more

I love that about Florida. The stadium is twice as impressive as the one where the Bulldogs play. It's absolutely magnificent. I was shocked at how intense the crowd was. This is a Florida crowd! It's supposed to be mellow and lazy! Not the case. A riveting sports experience. A palace of a stadium. Fantastic parking. Even the concession food is decent! I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 or 8 years. In that time, I've seen sports games at, or visited when empty (and usually both), at almost every major stadium in US and Canada. I have pictures of most which I will upload at some point. Also, on future travels, I plan to take new pix, and add more stadia! Watch this space! ***back to regular review*** It's the 12th largest stadium with 88,000 fans, but it actually ends up with well over 90,000 fans for each game which is odd, because you wouldn't think they'd go over capacity, but they do. It's one of the biggest and most intense stadiums in the world, and the Gators (who invented Gatorade) are one of the most feared teams in the country. Words cannot describe what it feels like to be in this stadium during a football games especially during a national rival game like UF vs. FSU or an SEC game in general! This stadium is made up of almost 90,000 seats. When full, this place shakes! Yes, it shakes and I loved every minute of it too! I've been to countless games as a student and a number of games after graduating. The music is great! The chants are great! The fans are great! It's an overall beyond great experience! This stadium is even open when football season is not in session. There are many things you can do here. For example, you can "run stadiums", take photographs on the field, or use it as a short cut on campus. My personal favorite is "running stadiums" which means you get full access to running up and down the 90 rows of steps as well as around the entire stadium for as many times as you possibly can! It's GREAT exercise! WARNING: It is one of the loudest NCAA football stadiums in the country! Enjoy it! read more

But if you are looking for that college environment with rowdy fans and great football this is the place. There is plenty of parking. Whether it's stadium parking, street parking or parking on someones lawn. There is lots of parking. Even before you reach the stadium the college football vibe is amazing. When in Rome.... we have been to FSU games so we figured we would check out a Gator game. Once inside the stadium it was very crowded and there were many drunk people, included one being escorted in handcuffs by 2 cops. We were starving and got 2 personal pizzas (Dominos) a drink and a bottle of water($25.50). The pizza was gross, not just stadium gross, but gag when you open the pizza box. We got to our seats and prepared ourselves for the drunks. Within minutes of sitting down, both my fiance and I had Jim Beam spilled down our backs (It was a lovely scent to have during the game). A few minutes later we got even luckier, the people in the two seats next to us got there. This guy was drunk and immediately sat mostly in my seat, I didn't even have a half a butt cheek on my seat. Everytime he would stand up I would scoot over a bit, so when he sat down, he would half sit on my lap. No apologies, just sit on me, elbow me, it was lots of fun! Even better was he was yelling and screaming the entire time, and coaching the team from his seat. Maybe I am just not cut out for this college football thing? read more

I've been here twice. LSU vs Florida 2002 LSU vs Florida 2006 The 2002 game was such a one-sided affair in LSU's favor, that I came away underwhelmed obviously. The 2006 game though made me come away impressed of an away stadium for the first time....and I've been to most of the SEC and a few Pac 10 Stadiums. It got loud at times. Obviously i'm biased and still think Tiger Stadium is crazier. Even one of their own, a blogger on http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/, commented after a 2007 LSU vs Florida game, that from a volume standpoint Tiger Stadium somehow just "gets unhinged" more. Nevertheless, this will be highest star ranking I will ever give for an opponent's stadium, because it's just a fun place where people care about football. Architecture of the stadium is nice. I love the orange walls in the 4 corners of the stadium. The very angular walls in Ben Hill definitely keep the noise in. The different sayings on the walls are cool too. Gator Chomp is neat and unique. The two bits guy, although cheesy, is also unique...and right before the 4th quarter "We are the Boys from Old Florida" is a pretty amazing sight. You have 90,000+ locking arm in arm and swaying back in forth. Probably the one biggest knock on Florida gameday is the lack of tailgating. For such a big football school, sometimes you just couldn't tell it was gameday OUTSIDE of the stadium. LIke I said earlier though, I will write about 7 more stadium reviews, and no other opponent stadium will get a 4 star. My wife and I love going to Gator games at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. It is a well kept stadium compared to some others we've been to. The intensity during Gator games is incredible. It gets very loud and very fun. You don't even have to be a Gator fan to have fun here! My one complaint is that most of the seats at the stadium are bleachers, and after paying an arm and a leg for tickets, you still have to pay extra for chair backs or bring your own. read more

This is by far the best stadium in all of college football. The feeling is absolutely indescribable coming here and I'm not saying that just because I went to school at UF. (Ok maybe a little bit). The games are electric and every gator fan is always ready to see our team play. I am extreme proud to be a Florida Gator if only I didn't live so far away I would come to more events. read more

I've been coming here since I was in the fourth grade! You can't beat the atmosphere. No, it's not a brand new professional stadium, but that's the point. Upgrades have been made over the years. I love the new scoreboards. They were a nice addition. There's a decent selection of food. Although I always like to get a hotdog at any sporting event, I'm usually disappointed with the vendor here. This year, they taste smoked, but it's obvious they've never touched a grill. I'll have to switch to something else next week. I've been using the Gator Aider shuttles from the Oaks Mall for years. This year it was switched to Navigator. It drops you off right at the stadium. I wish they'd go back to using the city buses. The new chartered buses are nice, but the driver I had wasn't local and had to call someone for directions to the mall. They were also much slower at getting through the traffic and the price has gone up to $10 round trip. I might skip it next week. read more

The stadium is a great venue even when the Gators aren't playing. You can do some serious cardio workouts. The whole stadium is open except for the actual field. The view is great from the bottom all the way to the top. Watching the sunset is quite the view. Ample parking space can be found right beside O'Connell Center. Parking decals are lifted from 3:30pm on weekdays. Weekends are usually decal-free. read more
