It was raining when we visited (July 9, 2019), but still so beautiful and captivating. In the winter months, the waves apparently *really* roar here. They were pretty rough in July, so I can't really imagine what winter is like. I suggest taking the Otter Crest Loop. Start further north of the Rocky Creek Bridge AKA Ben Jones Bridge from Highway 101 as the scenery is amazing - plus it is one-way going south in some areas. Take the loop all the way to 1st Street. On the right, you'll see signs for Devils Punchbowl, a small free parking lot, and some public restrooms. Like I said, it was raining. Additionally, we had our two little girls and three old farts who didn't want to "hike," but I think you can park and walk down to the ocean. While we didn't drive on this loop at night time we did drive the 101 when it was pitch dark. The cloud coverage was dense. So foggy - not to mention rainy - at random moments! Drive safe. Highly suggested.

The short 1 mile loop on Captain Cook's Trail leads you to Devils Churn, Cooks Chasm, Spouting Horn and Thor's Well (a collapsed sea cave). Depending on high and low tide, there's a dramatic ocean waves show or numerous tidepools to explore. Be careful when exploring the rocks as this area is high-risk for sneaker waves. Also make sure you're wearing proper footwear for traction on the wet rocks. There's something for everyone here! I would highly recommend.

What a beautiful destination. We started out by walking down to the tide pools. We got there at low…read moretide and the Ranger there was very helpful. To get to the tide pools, you have to walk across uneven rocks, so it is not easily accessible for people with balance issues. It's worth noting that the staircase in the lighthouse is under construction and not available. From there, we walked up the incline to get views of the cove and the north beach areas. It was just one perfect photo after another. We then hopped back into the car and drove down to the Cove parking lot. There are not many parking spaces there, but we were there early and had no problem. Just another wonderful set of views.

It's definitely not recommended for people with disabilities. We stopped a couple times to catch our breath on the way up. They do have a gift shop, but as expected, it was overpriced. Once you get to the top, there are beautiful views of the coastline. The lighthouse itself isn't much. When we were there, there was a volunteer who was there to answer questions. If you're looking for exercise, this is the ticket.

Best beach in Lincoln City. Hidden and known mostly by the locals (but now the secret is out). Nice…read morebig parking lot, clean accessible bathrooms and a foot-washing station. There are a few picnic tables scattered around the parking lot with the best ocean view if you don't want to or can't walk down to the beach - which is usually very windy and on the chilly side. We've always brought a picnic or gotten take out at one of the eateries just up the road (something at the 60's Cafe is a good choice). We tailgate or just eat inside our truck because of the wind. It doesn't matter since coming to see the ocean is the goal. On any given day I could just roll down the window enough to hear the roaring surf and take a nap. Someone mentioned the birds. Yes, lots of them: seagulls & crows especially. Just be careful if you have food (bread & crackers draw them like a magnet), they are pretty bold and don't seem to be afraid of people. The beach is apparently very dog friendly as almost everyone there the day we were had one or two. It was nice to see a free "poop bag" station and people actually using it. Road's End is considered a State Park and is well-maintained by Park Rangers. Best of all? No use fees! Definitely my Happy Place in Lincoln City.

It's pretty small but the self guided tour was free so we didn't mind. I currently feel more peaceful just thinking about being there.

Yaquina Bay Lighthouse is the other lighthouse on the south side of Newport, Oregon. A small town I…read moream very partial towards. I love the fact that there are two lighthouses on both sides of town. The place is scenic already with the Oregon Coast but having not one but two lighthouses makes it all the more magical. This one looks a lot different than the lighthouse north of town. This has a fine historical aspect to it and served as a residence as well if you can go in and tour around which you can't always do. And of course like most lighthouse locations there is a great view involved here and you can look out over the ocean. I recommend visiting both lighthouses in town but the one north is my favorite but both are nice, minor walks and plenty of picture opportunities are are available here.

This is the only eight sided lens on the mainland USA. The other one is in Hawaii There were only two made. Since it is on a high point of land the body of the light house is short. Maybe 20-30 feet. I thought the best part was Cape Meares, with the lighthouse and octopus tree. Cape Lookout, you would have to hike to see any of the lookouts, and Cape Kiwanda was the busiest, which is near Pacific City. Cape Meares has the prettiest views; and the squat lighthouse and octopus tree are must see unique attractions on this loop.
