I am a 21 year old student, and although I can rarely resist buying a new Barry M nail varnish or Eylure lashes, I am a Benefit girl through and through. And have on several occasions chosen to spend my money on their cosmetics over living essentials (food). Yes, it's an expensive addiction, but you pay for quality. You wouldn't spend £10 on a dress from Primark and expect it not to sag, stretch, rip, fray after a few washes. Why expect great things from a cheap cosmetic? You can bin the offensive dress, but you can't bin your skin, it's with you for life, treat it well. Benefit encourage natural beauty, and all product have vitamins and other ingredients to take good care of your skin, including introducing a foundation 'hello flawless oxygen wow' with SPF 25 pa+++ protection and hydration benefits. This sort of care is worth the money in the long run.
I have to make a point that when you buy a product from Benefit, you are always encouraged to use it sparingly, whether it's from the package, consultant or website. Less is more. I bought my foundation 3 months ago, use it religiously every day and have just less than half left. The foundation is designed to give an even skin tone, not coverage; concealer, primer and moisturiser, moisture prep, are all designed to cover, hide and minimise blemishes. Applying a grape size amount of moisturiser (which completely covers my face and neck) hydrates and levels out your skin texture, giving you a good base to start working upon. It might seem like a lot of work, but when your hair grows out, there is absolutely no point in just getting your roots done; you need a trim, re-shape and colour touch-up as well.
Its fair enough to make comparisons between make-up, after all, they are all cosmetics, however Benefit is a subsidiary of the LVMH company, almost like a step down from Dior, if you will. Similar to Top Shop's make-up range deriving from MAC. And between Top Shop and Benefit, there's no competition. As for buying products that you may never use again is all part of the process of Fashion, how many garments, shoes, handbags have you bought, worn once then decided it wasn't for you? If that's the case with a Benefit cosmetic, give it to a girlfriend, pass of the Benefit torch, the favour may be returned a few weeks down the line with a lovely little tub of Posietint, now who would say no to that?!
How many times have you been at the checkout and the sales assistant has offered you a product from one of the baskets they have placed strategically at the counter. Benefit is a business like every other, the sales team have quotas and targets to meet, however just as your best friend would give you give you advice and encouragement when it comes to buying next Saturdays party dress, let the trained and qualified beauty consultants do the same, it is their job and their passion after all. You can always just say no, they won't take offence. read more
