The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the service has always been excellent. I've also sampled the food as a take-away and it was of the same high-quality as the restaurant. Definitely not to be missed.

We'd finished our hike on the Llanberis path to the top of Snowdon (3100 feet up, then 3100 feet…read moredown) and were pretty hungry. I remembered that our hosts at Tan Dinas Country House in Betws-y-Coed recommended Ty Balti House, so we headed there. Llanrwst is a working town and interesting to us because of our interest in Wales and the Welsh. The town is quite different from Betws-y-Coed, very tourist-oriented, but Llanrewst is interesting in it's own way. Somehow Llanwrst lucked out over Betws and has a fantastic Indian restaurant featuring Balti-style (Bangladeshi) cooking. Their focus is their tandoori oven and meat dishes, including lamb. We're fishaterians though but we found plenty to eat there too. We had tandoori salmon, mattar paneer, dhal and rice. Asha Balti has a full bar. A G&T was never more welcome. The food was excellent (really, not just because we were hungry!), the staff was friendly and helpful. Dinner was one of our best meals during our two week trip to Wales. It's only a few miles to the restaurant from Betws-y-Coed, so head to Llanwrst if you're in the mood for some great Indian food.

Great food, generous portions and nice service! Open evenings. Can get busy. BYOB - no tea either just cold beverages. BYOB is encouraged by ownership. So don't worry, bring a beer or two. Enjoy!

This is probably the worst restaurant experience i've ever had, and I go to a lot of restaurants…read more My review is not so much about the food or the feel of the place in terms of design (it's average, if not slightly below par), but the staff who run the place. From the start we were rushed, it was the day of the marathon and initially we were turned down (that's fine, we hadn't booked), then as we were leaving the boss pointed us to the only empty table (which transpired to clearly have been booked by a party arriving shortly), he obviously saw us as £ signs and couldn't resist getting some money off us in the least possible time. We were rushed to order, mains came minutes after starter whilst we were still eating it, rushed to finish, (they tried to take my meal before I had finished), not offered dessert or coffee, just given a bill without requesting it. And to hurry us into paying our bill we overheard the boss tell the party waiting by the door that we were leaving. Clearly the boss had squeezed us into a space which he had already reserved for someone else, he's just a very, very greedy little man. The fact the restaurant was full would probably not be an indication of it's popularity, it's simply because LLanberis is a small town and on marathon day it is flooded with 1000's of tourists who need feeding! - this restaurant happens to be near the finish line too.. The experience at the time made us very angry and left a throughly unpleasant feeling with us.

I have no problem with this, but another couple came in after me, again no reservation and asked to wait. Then a waiter came through and took them to a table ahead of me. On top of this there was no attempt to give either of us a menu to look at, nor offered us a drink: poor service. After a prolonged wait I was apologetically shown to a table which was still being prepared: by wiping over a paper table cloth and seating me at an empty, food-stained table. Another delay and I managed to get a drink and some popadoms, which were both good. Eventually I received my starter: Tandoori Lamb Chops (£3.95) which were very good. I eventually received my main: a Bengal style curry of diced chicken in a lightly spiced sauce with minced meat that I asked for Madras hot (£7.95) with a keema naan (£2.05)and a chapatti (£1.05). The curry was tasty and quite good, although I think it was probably a mistake to ask for it hotter than billed, the additional chillis just overwhelmed the dish. Overall the food was quite good, probably 3, but the service was appalling, only 1. My advice save some money and get a takeaway.

The staff were friendly to us and gave us some complimentary popadoms and asked if we'd like some drinks. The decor of the restaurant is quite nice and it felt really quite relaxed in there. The food was enjoyable and we took some home with us as we couldn't finish it all. Overall I'd say we had a lovely time and the waiting staff were friendly and swift (but not too swift where you feel rushed). The prices are absolutely fantastic and they offer discounts to take-away and for students to eat in. Would go back in future.

Now I'm pretty sure this place doesn't specialise in grilled tiger, so I think it's safe to say their name is a nod to its Indian roots and that there is no need to get on the phone to the RSPCA just yet. Spice of Bengal in Ainsdale specialises in Indian and Bangladeshi dishes available either in a restaurant setting or to order and take away. Their takeaway menu is a bit sparse compared to the restaurant menu which is to be expected, but their eat-in menu is impressively extensive. Helpfully, there is also a section which breaks down what each type of curry contains and how spicy each one is, for all the curry virgins and n00bs amongst you. When I last visited I went for the lamb tikka chilli Bengal curry which, as you can imagine, was rather spicy. Despite how hot it was, it was still delicious as it managed to negotiate the fine line between being too mild and so hot it takes off several layers of your tongue. The restaurant is fairly pleasantly decorated and has a lovely dining atmosphere, with the staff being friendly and attentive at all times. If you're ever in the area, I recommend trying the Spice on offer here.

Fortunately the menu did its best to guide me in the ways of the Spice and helped me to make an excellent choice. The waiter even asked if I wanted my food more, or less, spicy.
