Yes, Yes and Yes to Thai Cuisine! I'm talking about Benjarong Royal Thai Restaurant. I didn't stay at the Dusit Hotel Hotel, nor have I ever stepped foot in before. But while on vacation, my very good friend who loves Thai food planned a dinner outing for a bunch of us. I've noticed whenever in Manila, we've ate at several Thai Restaurants. By far, she has chosen the best Thai Restaurant I've ever been to!!!! Located in the G/F of the hotel lobby, I guess you could say it's always safe to check out the website before indulging on your upcoming dinner. My friend also advised "Smart Casual" is required for dress attire and that reservation would be for a party of 6 at 6pm. It was the most convenient and easy way to dinner as we walked from our Ascott Hotel towards the Dusit Thani. There is security prior to entrance, and this hotel is what you call Grande Entrance! From the front desk it was so nice and elegant. Even as I was just walking by, I came across an Asian Carrier Cabin Crew and thought how lucky for them to have hotel accommodations here. Anyways. Let's say 2 hours of dinner time because there is actually 2 dinner seating's for the restaurant. 6pm and 8pm. Take a look at every dish and appetizer ordered because it was beautifully prepared, indescribable with words, what looks like a meal that was prepared in Thailand. I will have a hard time dining out at another Thai restaurant back home in Honolulu! The customer service, all the servers, the atmosphere, the decorations were all so amazing. I completely forgot about this delicious Thai restaurant. This is definitely my favorite Thai restaurant in the Philippines. Chef Watcharaphon "Ja" Yongbanthom made a guest appearance on Iron Chef, which is one of the cooking shows that I enjoy watching. Everything we had reminded us of Bangkok, but with an exquisite dish presentation. We described all of the dishes that we enjoyed eating in Bangkok, and she knew exactly what we were talking about since she is Thai. I apologize for not knowing the names of our dishes, despite our server telling and showing us what it is called in their menu. I love starting with a pomelo salad. My niece likes chicken satay. My cousin ordered the soft shell crab curry. My aunt likes steamed fish with lemon and fish sauce on the side. I like Pad Thai. We ate everything family style so that we could taste each other's choices. For dessert, my niece had coconut ice cream within a ball of dark and white chocolate. My aunt had something similar to a halo halo. My cousin was given a complimentary mango with sticky rice for her birthday. Benjarong is a fine dining Thai restaurant at the Dusit Thani hotel in Manila, Philippines. One has to walk through the attractive lobby to get to the entrance of the restaurant, which is decorated beautifully in terms of color, structure and aesthetics. One feels that you are in a classy place. Upon seating, they give you a lightly scented towel. Now it was time for the food. We ordered chicken satay for appetizer. I can easily say this is one of the best Satays I have had because the meat had color, a good char on the outside and was moist on the inside. We wanted to eat fried fish and the menu states that it is Seabass... but they told us before ordering that it is going to be pompano and we ordered the fillet with a spicy sweet sauce. Only part of the fish is filleted. It should have been all of it. The fillet pieces were chewy. We got chicken with green curry that had a silky taste, thick coconut gravy and distinct spices. Sautéed vegetables were bland. We also had steamed white rice. Instead of water, we had fresh calamansi juice without sugar. This was excellent. Service was good. read more

Food was very authentic Thai cuisine. Highly recommend just for that. However the way they treat you from beginning to end is just impeccable. The atmosphere is businesslike yet I was dressed casually. I don't notice any drop off in service in comparison to the "suits" in the room. The staff was very well trained. This is a signature restaurant of Dusit Thani. No real Dusit is complete without a Benjarong. The chef and sue-chef and most of the serving staff are Thai, everything on the menu is as good and authentic as it can get. Pad Thai and Tom Yum are fantastic. My mom and I were staying at Dusit Thani and wanted to spend the last couple of days on our trip chilling with good drinks. We had already tried the happy hour across the way at The Pantry, but we didn't want to have to wait until 9 for that happy hour to start. Benjarong's happy hour was from 5:30pm-9pm and cost P690 per person. It had a slightly higher price than the happy hour at The Pantry, but Benjarong's cocktail drinks were better in my opinion. Plus you're paying for a better ambiance. Benjarong was more like a high end sit-down Thai restaurant. Service was excellent. Special thanks to our main server/bartender, Seph. He was very friendly and kept our drinks flowing. I thought the cocktails were tasty. The happy hour menu didn't explicitly describe every ingredient in each drink, so the following is my best try at describing each one I had... Rose Blossom: It was a refreshing cocktail. The main liquor was vodka, and I believe it had grape fruit juice as one of the components. Thai Tiki: It tasted a lot like a naughty milk tea. I liked that it was sweet with a creamy base and hints of coconut and pineapple flavors. If you enjoy a pina colada, this drink would be a nice alternative. Mekhong Thai Rum was the main liquor. One Night in Bangkok: I liked this drink a lot. Tequila was the main liquor. I thought that the drink maybe had some bitters and a lot more complexity in flavors. I believe I tasted balsamic viniagrette as one of the ingredients. Asok Whiskey Sour: Delicious take on a whiskey sour. I've been to the Philippines on three separate occasions for 12-14 days each time & I can tell you that this was, without a doubt, the absolute worst dining experience I've had in three years. I did not like the particular dish I ordered...& after telling them so, they would not remove it from my bill. Then, it took them an hour to bring me bill. When they finally did, it was someone else's bill. So, I had to wait another 10-15 minutes while they attempted to find it & they had to wind up coming back to me & asking what I had even ordered. First off, I eat a lot of Thai food so I'm a pretty harsh critic. Second, I probably should give this place another try and possibly update my review. Me and my wife stayed at the Dusit Thani on our last visit to Makati and this place is right inside the hotel. The atmosphere is great and the service was top notch. Our food was good but not knock your socks off good. I wish they would give you the option to select your protein on some of their dishes. Their phad see ew can only be ordered as pork which isn't bad but I would have preferred to order beef or chicken. One thing that was especially good was the sampler dessert. Excellent! This restaurant offers authentic Thai cuisine right in the heart of Manila! The very friendly and attentive staff are just as commendable as their dishes. We started off with 2 appetizers: Por Pia Pak and Tord Man Gung (Vegetable spring roll and Shrimp cake). Followed by 2 main course entrees: 1. Pu Nim Phad Pong Kari- Soft shell crab Yellow curry sauce Chinese celery and 2. See Krong Moo Crispy pork ribs, sweet garlic sauce, Thai kimchi I recommend each of these dishes as they are sure to please. Dusit is a Thai hotel brand and it would have been a shame if their flagship Thai restaurant didn't live up to the standards, but it does! As far as great Thai restaurants in Manila go, Benjarong definitely has a place on the list. Benjarong's maitre'd is a Thai woman herself, and I think she's been with the restaurant a while now because I always see her greeting patrons and regulars. She's never short of warm towards me, too, even though I'm not there that often. The few times I've gone, she always had a recommendation to try for the day. "Are you allergic to shrimp? This is also great with fish," she would say about the Tom Yum soup, for example. Fortunately, I'm not allergic to anything and I have had many a spicy river prawn or deep-sea shrimp to enjoy at Benjarong. I wish I could remember the name of the dish, but I'm sure it's a Thai staple so I'll just describe it: beef with basil leaves. Sometimes it's spicier than usual, but never in an overpowering way. I love this and always only need to describe it to the servers for them to lay it out. Sometimes they have sticky rice, too, which is great with their hotter dishes. While Benjarong is a bit on the fancy side, the sticky rice is meant to be eaten with your hands so don't be shy. read more

There are only a few places in the city where you can get good quality Thai food and Benjarong in the Dusit hotel is definitely one of those. It leaves you with no doubt that you wont be disappointed because one, Dusit is a Thai hotel chain and two, the head chef is Thai! My family and I used to eat here a lot and only recently went back a month back, we're glad we did! The service and the quality of food is still as good as it used to be! We were 4 girls and we ordered 3 appetizers, 1 salad, 4 mains and dessert (pretty sure we were hungry!). Everything was still super good, I loved the fried shrimp roll and the thom ka gai! We finished everything despite being "takaw tingin"! Sure it's hotel priced, but it wasn't that bad considering how satisfied and happy we were after! Benjarong Royal Thai is also the most authentic Thai restaurant I've tried in the city. If you love your Thai, you definitely should make a booking here asap! read more

I came here with a girl friend and we were feeling quite sassy. I took to the menu and almost cried (ang mahal) but still wanted to try their food after hearing it had been the best Thai in town. They weren't wrong. Their food is far from the Thai fare I had been used to (Som's, etc.). This is the kind of food that they would serve to the royal family of Thailand. The Pad Thai had firm savory noodles. the Tom Yam Gung was just the right balance of spicy, hot and sour. Their shrimp cakes, Tord Man Gung was another favorite -chewy and not at all oily. Here's a dish I've never had: Pla Krapong Jean Nam Makhamis - breaded lapu-lapu fillet that was well-marinated. And for dessert, the Khanom Tako is the Thai version of our maja blanca, a creamy yet firm pudding with a hint of coconut. Because Thai food is all about the balance of flavors and of the senses, the Benjarong nailed each dish to its essence. Tip: Be sure to tip well. Benjarong is a popular Thai restaurant located inside The Dusit Thani Manila hotel. I believe it was one of the first, if not the first Thai restaurant that I have been to. Whenever my family and I would crave for Thai food, everyone would suggest this restaurant, sometimes it can be hassle though because it's too far from our place. They have always been consistent in their food servings, maybe that is why we have celebrated our birthdays here so many times. If we have guests from other countries come over, we also bring them here because the food is very authentic, too. Our usual orders consist of the following: Deep fried prawns, their Pomelo salad with shrimp and chicken is very light and tasty, Fried Lapu Lapu with mango sauce, grilled prawn with (super delicious) curry sauce, do not forget to try their Pad Thai, it is also made to perfection and last but not the least, their version of Bagoong rice, fried rice with shrimp paste. read more
