This was by far the best experience I've encountered. When my husband, Eric passed away last year, I was beyond distressed, I couldn't even think straight. No one expects to become a widow at 47 yrs.old and he didn't expect to die young suddenly as well. I had gone to several funeral homes in the area and just broke down every time because they all seemed so cold and all the decisions I had to make were overwhelming.This was the first time I've had to deal with death, as my parents are still alive. Then a friend of ours Henry suggested Beresford because they had good reviews and he had heard good things about them. The moment I walked in I felt at PEACE for the first time in 48 hours. Chip, his son William and Mike assured me everything was going to be 'ok'. We mostly worked with William(who just happens to be the same age as my son (22@ the time), He is extremely mature, full of compassion, very reverent, very respectful, and he knows his stuff. Because this was so unexpected we didn't have a lot of money saved. They gave me many economical options to choose from and we came up with something I could afford. My husband had a open casket funeral and wake for 2 days and then cremated on third. They literally held my hand and gave our boys 18,19 and 22 assurance, thru the entire process. They took care of every little detail so that I didn't have to, NO PRESSURE! They cared about and cared for our family at a time when we needed loving hands, not shackled hands. Everyone that attended the funeral (at my church over 200 in attendance) was thoroughly impressed, they made him look like he was just sleeping peacefully not at all creepy. My wife and I attended a funeral at a country cemetery in early November. The setting and the arrangements struck a chord with us. It was all so serene and comforting. I chatted with the funeral director. We couldn't have imagined that our son would die just a week later at the age of 43. The prospect of preparing a funeral can be intimidating, and it's easy to get overwhelmed. I researched and made calls to the more widely known funeral homes. Frankly, the cost of their services was scary. Of course, we wanted a nice service, but looking long term, providing for our son's widow and four children takes priority. This is my second time to use Beresford. They did an excellent job with my mother's arrangements and out of town burial. They followed my instructions to the letter, and it was as perfect as I imagined it would be. I am grateful to them for making it such a smooth day. I recently lost my brother who lived there in Houston, TX. I had the misfortune of not knowing where to begin because I was handling this from Pittsburgh, PA. I called Baresford Funeral Home and Chip answered the phone and began to comfort me, answer all my questions, guide me on what to do next, etc. etc. The most comforting words from Chip hours later were "your brother is with us now and in good hands". I didn't want to use one of the large chains. I am so glad I did because William went above and beyond any expectations. I had my first encounter with Beresford in 2007, with my father's funeral.Another funeral home served us with grossly inflated prices.I got the same casket for half the cost.Flowers and book were much less expensive also.When my beloved wife went to Heaven, Mr.Doyle managed everything absolutely perfectly. He even managed to find a pink marble headstone at a greatly reduced cost.Often , funeral homes take advantage of grieving families with upsells. This was not at all the case here.
