I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to my attorney and his assistant with Berger and Green. I filed for disability in 2012 initially and turned down for SSI as my husband made too much money. Then I was turned down for disability as the judge determined that I could work as a hotel hostess or security work which I couldn't do either. It was a unique situation as I was living in England with my British husband before we moved home and so my claim had to be sent to the UK (there is an agreement between the US and UK where your work counts in either country) to see if I had enough work credits to qualify. I knew I had it. When we returned home I had already had Type 2 Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, High Blood Pressure and was born with club foot which was corrected at a very young age leaving me with heel pain, a 1" deficit on the left foot and the right foot pain as it was compensating for the left foot. In 2011 I had been told I had a heart murmur and had anemia and not long after was diagnosed with Diabetic Chronic Stage 3 Kidney Disease, not long after Hypothyroidism, some arthritis, Lichen Plantus, diabetic neuropathy and have had cataract implants and Im only age 58. Most of what I have is hereditary from my Mother who passed away 2 years after we returned home from the UK. I can't sit much, I can't stand much and spent much of my life doing secretarial work and data entry. I can type still but struggle. I called Berger and Green and they filed a claim for me and we went through paperwork and the ins and outs of what would happen. I went to Altoona, PA (2 1/2 hours from where we live) in September and the judge asked if I would consider moving my application date to Dec 5, 2013 and I agreed. I went before the judge with my attorney by my side. Before we entered we had a chance to talk and he gave me some pointers. The judge asked me questions and what was left out and my attorney felt the judge needed to know about me and my many health problems he wrote down and asked me about them to be sure he knew the entire situation. The judge was very good and the vocational man couldn't find any way for me to do the job I had been doing all my life. After the hearing, my attorney called me aside and told me I did a great job at answering the questions and letting the judge and the vocational man know how I was feeling and dealing with things. Berger and Green did a phone consult to review my medical issues the intake interviewer was very kind, professional and patient. After she took my information she spoke with one of the lawyers and they agreed I had an appropriate case for disability benefits. They completed the online application to Social Security. I did need to fill out paper work that was sent to me from Social Security that only the applicant is allowed to fill out. There is a waiting period so it takes about 5-6 months to allow Social Security to do their review. Berger and Green would call weekly to check on my application status. I was awarded benefits without having to appeal. I feel that having Berger and Green involved with my case really made the difference in being approved on the first try and I am very thankful. I would like to add that Berger and Green did not make much on my case because Social Security determines the benefit start date and they don't know up front how much money they will get.
