We got the coconut cookies and the peanut butter cookies to go and have been enjoying them all day long. In the freezer/refrigerated section they actually had full gluten-free cakes which I have rarely seen in any gluten-free bakery just sitting there ready to be taken as well as other to go meals for you. The second part of this establishment is the café. But really it's a very good Indian restaurant. They offer some other things that are not Indian. We tried the pizza served on rice flour naan but honestly, I would skip that. We got the orange chicken it is made with tandoori chicken and the orange chicken seasonings. It was so good. It would take me a while to get through all the menu, but I would happily do that in the honor of research. It has a fairly decent sized dining area and then there's a bar area as well. We were there for lunch so I'm not quite sure how busy the bar area is or if it's popular. We are always looking for really good gluten-free places because of celiac and we were thrilled to find sweet 27 Café and bakery for lunch. I would also note that they had a lot of vegetarian and vegan options as well. Again, I would be willing to try all of the tofu dishes that looked really good on the menu.

They need to figure that out, it was pretty rough to hold - collapsing and soggy, not a great experience. Our pastries were just okay - got the fig/creme filled big puff and a spinach ricotta pastry. Both were fine, a bit dry, and I've had similar/better things from Tous Le Jous, cafe dear Leon, and even ovenbird. These seemed maybe not so fresh. They do charge a 15% gratuity for all orders so we paid about $4 extra for a soggy cup and only okay pastries. Ultimately we just didn't love the experience and the cost. I'd come back to try the pizza and sandwiches but I will have low expectations.

I asked if it could be sliced like the white bread loaf can but I was informed that the classic sourdough loaf is too large to fit in the slicer. I also love the fact that they offer a pay what you can program and a pay it forward option. And judging by their fundraising for important causes, this is a business I will continue to support. For $7, I thought it was a great deal for such a large and beautiful loaf. It froze and reheated very well too so none of it went bad. I wish I could try more of the menu but I should probably play it safe. If you're gluten intolerant and tend to be able to tolerate sourdough, I definitely recommend giving their classic loaf a try.

Great cookies, but NEVER EVER order a gift through their website. As I was placeing my order online on December 14 I noticed that there was no shipping options. So I clicked through expecting it to pop up and instead the order was placed and I was automatically put into $30 UPS Next Day Air! (1) So I filled out the contact us form to ask them to make the change. Well, their site says it cannot send the message, (2) So then I had to call and could only leave a message, (3) Then I noticed I recevied no confirmation email at all (4) So call back again during regulat business hours and get another answerig service (5) I hunt down Berger's actual phone number and call an get a voicemail machine (6) I press 0 to be taken to an operator, it rings a few times and places me back into voicemail (7) I press 0 again, same thing as #6 happens...so I do that three more times! (8) On the 5th time someone actually picks up the phone! (9) And they tell me my order will ship after January 1st. NOWEHERE ON THE WEBSITE DID IT SAY THIS. (10) So I cancel the order and they tell me my card will be charged and not credited back until after January 1st! Absolutely appaling service in every respect. read more

Wow, they just don't do it for me. They are ok, I guess. I am talking about the actual cookies, which I have tried on several occasions. They seem like a local thing with only a moderate appeal. Glad someone likes them as many locals are very fond. Now, I have had a pie made from Berger cookies and for whatever reason, it was much more memorable that the cookies themselves. Maybe it had additional ingredients or was made in "the style" of the cookies. It could have been Dangerously Delicious, I am not sure. I don't get the big deal with the cookies, though. Having spent most of my life in Baltimore I have eaten my fare share of Berger cookies. I started taking them as host gifts when I visit my friends, and discovered you can order them online. They're my go to gift now to send to friends in other parts of the country... and from what I hear they're just as fresh and delicious when they arrive as purchasing them here in MD. read more
