He used to be a good trainer, but I had to leave before I was in a physical altercation after he screamed and cussed at my 15 year old son today. I used him 20 years ago and had good results with my dog, and since my son got a new frenchy, I decided to have my son learn the basics, so I signed him up for training. I wasn't able to make the first session, so I sent my son with my step-dad the first session. After talking to my son and stepdad about how training went, they told me they went over the importance of a schedule (we already had one that worked for us) and sat in chairs and talked the entire session. Never actually did training, commands, or even touched the dog. My step-dad is an old country man and likes to chat. Apparently, the two must have got off topic and blew the session. I made sure to show personally the 2nd session. Immediately, he starts picking on me. Which is fine, I'm 40 and always worked construction, so it's nothing new to me. I figured it was just his way of breaking the ice. After sitting in the chairs, he continues to grill me about my job and personal life. I immediately realized why the session was wasted last week. After telling him I went on disability, he pipes back, "You know I wasn't going to judge you for being on disability." (He clearly was). I had 6 surgeries, 212 doctor appointments in under a year, chemo and radiation, and 8 months of physical therapy. An electrician that couldn't lift my hand above my shoulder. I didn't tell him, I let him have his opinion, I was a bum. We were training my dog, remember? 10min after he starts talking to my son 2 feet from his face, spitting as he talked, the dog is tangled on the leash under the chair, my son tries to fix the issue, he snaps at my son to keep eye contact. I'm personally lost on everything he's saying. For example, he was talking about the dog chewing things he wasn't supposed to.. "For sh*t and food I put the head down and redirect, everything else is give." Then immediately shoots into how many strings on the dogs rope he might get and to cut those off, to having a rope toy for clothes. All those topics within 10 or so sentences. I was so lost and hadn't said anything because missing the last appointment I figured my son knew, and I just needed to catch up. I looked over at my son and finally realized he, too, had no idea what he was talking about, so I tried to reign it in with examples and questions. I asked two questions. Both times, he snapped that I was doing it wrong but then gave me an example of how he did it, but it was the same way as me. More confusion! Finally, 30 minutes in, he's completely off-topic at this point. He's whispering to my son not to listen to me, to listen to my step dad, college is a waste of money, and to go to a trade school. He's the one going to have to pay for it (though he asked me to pay in cash and got into complaining about his taxes). He got into he's a Christian man and raised his sons right, and they are now both gay. His wife doesn't like him because he's old but didn't like him when he was young either, his daughter went to Shepard University and can't find work... After 20 minutes of this with about 10 minutes left of the session, I again try to reel it back in and interrupt him with, (I had to), "look if we are done with dogs"... he immediately turns red and screams to my 15 year old child. "SON, WHAT THE F*CK DID WE DO THE PAST HOUR." I bit my tongue, stood, grabbed my sons arm, and stormed out before this man assaulted us. He continues yelling that I disrespected him (though clearly he's the one who ripped me off, twice)! I get it. We all have our issues, but clearly, this man is going through stuff in his personal life. Much of his ranting seemed right wing charged, and perhaps he thought I was too liberal. The funny thing is I donated this month to Fighting for Freedom. A non-profit, conservative organization and ordered my step-dad a 6pack and a T-shirt of Conservative Dads - Ultra Right beer for taking him to the session. read more
