I have heard a lot of hateful remarks being made about BPD and the people who work there and I…read morewanted to say that they have some of the nicest officers I have ever met. I also have heard a lot of hate recently about first responders around the nation recently, most of that hate being towards law enforcement.I want to remind people that if you have had a "bad interaction" with BPD or any other law enforcement agency than stop breaking the law! If your breaking the law and you get arrested or get in trouble with the police it is your fault. These people are just doing their jobs! First responders are humans with emotions just like you and me! That being said there are first responders out there who are racist and homophobic and mean spirited people, whose actions I do not condone one bit. It only takes one of those people to make a whole department look bad, Which is something really unfortunate, that happens way too much these days. I hope it will end soon. Anyways the point I'm trying to make is that you should really be hating crimes, not the police! Also thank you to all the men and woman across the country who protect and serve us every day. You matter and you will never be forgotten.

The Berkeley Police Officers Association is the labor organization representing 'rank and file'…read moreemployee's of the police department. By out maneuvering Berkeley's weak-minded politicians, the union has managed to push police compensation to very high levels. The cops association doesn't offer campaign donations, they use psychology! Elected democrats in the Eastbay are all boomers. They remember being on the wrong side of a steely cop stare back in the sixties...(Ugh, officer could you please not shine the flashlight in my eyes!) All the cops need to do is to stare at the elected officials and they crumple. This is great for the cops because they don't have to waste money on political contributions. You can review the salaries at the Contra Costa Times database. Regular Berkeley patrol officers start at $100k and go up to $160k total compensation. Although you would think that Sargent rank is part of management...wrong! They are BPOA and they get massive overtime pay, which is not hard to do when you only have a 32 hour work week and are paid to get dressed. Sargent rank officers have total compensation of $150k up to $225K. The department is heavy in Sargent rank because they are in charge of getting the organic doughnuts (ha ha ha). For those who incorrectly leave reviews of your parking citations here, Parking enforcement officers (meter maids) have total compensation of $67K and up into the $80k neighborhood. They are not sworn officers or members of the BPOE. Because of this they can be offered incentives such as time off etc. for being aggressive in ticket numbers. Should you protest, you make a written appeal (which will be turned down) and then go in for a second appeal. I got one dismissed...it took about 6 hours of work. So the next time you encounter a Berkeley Police Officer, please be respectful since they are good union members. If you do not give brief, accurate and truthful answers to their questions, you will cost taxpayers dearly in overtime.

First let me say, if I could give them a 0 I would…read more I am so tired of getting tickets in the mail and being surprised because I never saw a ticket on my car in the first place. What kind of shit is that? I find it hard to believe that someone is stealing the ticket off my car before I get to it. Boo.

I had a bizarre series of events spread out over 1/2 a year during which my vehicle was 'booted'…read moretwice and towed twice, the windshield was broken on drivers' side, further tickets, DMV wouldn't allow me to register the vehicle because BPD put a hold on it, and I finally lost it when they denied me my RIGHT to a 'tow hearing' thereby they just gave it to the tow company to sell. And all this after making an agreement with me, that if they had honored their end, to avoid all this. For what? I parked on a block that in the morn I was there a few minutes too late, and later that day, a street sweeping was going to come. No street sweeping was prevented nor interfered with. Or "Improper Display of Disabled Placard". I even had photographic proof that one of the tickets was just bunk, and violated their own published policies, but they wouldn't honor that. Because then they wouldn't have had enough tickets to do all they did to me. I was 'between places' at the time so lodging out of my vehicle. I am a senior citizen with disabilities. They knew this, but still just jerked me around for months then screwed me, stole my truck, making me homeless in the streets. The Sgt. that reneged on her 'agreement' with me (Murphy) has since retired from BPD and taken an exec job at an animal shelter. She'll double-cross a disabled senior to take his truck and put him on the street homeless, but now spares animals from that demise. You just can't even make this stuff up! Then they lied about it. They are crooks doing a scam. People, they try to avoid letting you know that you have a Right to both a 'boot hearing' and/or a 'tow hearing'. You CAN also make only a partial payment and have your vehicle released AT NO COST. I did. For traffic tickets, please note that the Federal Court ruled that 'administrative courts' (the kind Berkeley uses) are UNCONSTITUTIONAL and unlawful.

OMG, I didn't know there was a place to share stories about encounters with Berkeley Parking…read moreEnforcement (aka "meter maids"). You know, you would expect citizens to be treated better in one of the most progressive towns in the SF Bay Area. But no way, because parking enforcement is a form of revenue for the city. Let's see, I was somewhere in downtown Berkeley. I was parked, and I was playing with my GPS. I had put $$$ in the meter, but it had just expired as a meter maid pulled up behind me. Actually, it was a guy. He comes up and points to the meter. I told him I'm about to leave. Then he starts this complicated discussion about how I'm occupying a space and I need to pay to sit in that space. I felt like I was in a Physics class. As soon as he walked back to his scooter, I pulled away from the space. But of course, I find a ticket in the mail. Thanks alot, next time use BART. ---------------------------------------- BART- for you non-locals, BART is the electric train system or subway

They act like they don't know and stick their nose all in your form filled out to read it. Very odd since it's private info that goes to the place you turn it in to. The security guard looks like they are unwell and wearing an unhealthy face diaper on their chin. Hence the term chinjury. Odd ballish experience. The guard also put his nose all in my report instead of asking the name of the form and to see where it goes, then giving me the answer. Just dazed and confused staff or acting that way , to ask more questions and be nosey instead of giving prompt service.

So I bring them to a brilliant guy at work who entertains my questions while he eats them. On this particular day, I see a young gentleman asking for food. To Self "I bet he would really appreciate some fresh fruit. I'll give him this bag of figs instead of taking them up the hill." I hand him the bag of figs. He looks in ... Guy - "What are they?" Me - "They are fresh figs. It's a fruit, kinda sweet." Guy - "How do I eat them?" Me - "You can peel them or eat them whole." *Pause* Guy - "Are they organic?" ONLY in Berkley.
