Very wide selection of used books, but the prices can be extremely expensive for the overall condition of the books. You won't find many bargains, but you may find something you would not see at any other bookstore in Australia. The restaurant itself is fine, if also a bit on the spendy side. Have eaten there two or three times. Nothing really stood out, would classify it as fairly ordinary overall. However, this is still worth a visit if you are in the Southern Highlands. The location is beautiful. read more

I went on a day trip to Bowral to see a friend and she treated me to a delicous lunch at Berkelouw Books Cafe. The scenery was as delicious as the food! The entire time I was sitting there eating all I could think was how great it would be to get married there...but I digress...to the food! I had the spiced duck with orange and pomegranate salad. With duck, you win or you lose. I won. I won big time. It wasn't dry or tough, it was lean with no fat and it was freaking delicious. The dressing was light with just enough tang to really bring out the spices the duck had been cooked in. We also shared a mushroom pizza with parmesan oil and truffles....oh my word. I love a shroom and this pizza was fabulous. Not greasy, not stringy, just perfect - real gourmet stuff. Everything felt so fresh and light and as I said, the gorgeous surroundings just really help to make this place worth the trip from Sydney! read more

When you want to escape the city hustle and bustle and breathe the fresh, clean air of the southern highlands then this is the place to come!! Set inside an old wooden barn with a beautiful old fireplace and doubles as a bookshop. The food was absolutely delicious!! We had the barramundi with Israeli cous cous, pumpkin and goats cheese wood fire pizza and a 'side' paprika fries that was more like a family size. The staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgable. Will be back here on our next trip to the highlands!! read more

We absolutely LOVE this place. It is truly a destination for locals and tourists alike. The food is exceptional, and the staff are friendly, professional and highly experienced. Do not leave until you've sampled all of the Bendooley Estate wines. The Mourvedere is a personal favourite. The atmosphere is wonderful, with a custom-built medieval fireplace, stunning pitched barn roof with exposed beams, surrounded by an excellent selection of books (new and used - the book buyer has an exceptional eye!). The dining area is stylishly relaxed, rustic, with salvaged custom furniture pieces and farmhouse ornaments, and the venue is also pet-friendly (outside only) meaning our dog can enjoy the day trip with us. The new cellar door is absolutely gorgeous and looks as though it has been relocated from somewhere in the south of France. The grounds are simply stunning, with vistas of rolling rural hills, horse paddocks, rustic animal shelters and sheds, matured European trees and gardens, lush green grass, and a picturesque lake. The Bookbarn Cottage is a must to stay at. This lovely little cottage is very clean, tidy, stylish and feels like home. Like the bookshop and restaurant, it is filled with a wonderful collection of books, which can be picked up and read over the duration of your stay, or if you must, purchase your favoured books before you check out. The cottage has two very comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms. It has a fully secured yard and allows well behaved pets. We love staying here, including our pooch. This gem will stay with you. You'll want to return over and over again. read more
