El Sume !!!
When I…read morefirst moved to Mexicali I was little bummed about the beer selection. Don't get me wrong I love Mexican beer but I need other styles. Moving from San Diego I really missed my IPAs, Double IPAs, Triple IPAs... I'm thirsty... Anyway, shortly after Mexicali became my home, a friend told me about this place. They said it recently opened and it had "American" beers. I was curious. I was crossing my fingers that it wasn't just Budweiser, Miller, etc. When I arrived I immediately felt like I was in a beer bar. I started to perk up a bit. The bartender gave me a menu. I opened it and.....YES ! They are here !!!! Stone, Green Flash, Ballast, OMG !!!! The bartender could tell I was really excited. I was getting ready to order a Stone when he said we have Stone on tap if you prefer. Whaaaaaaa?!?! Yes, please ! I ordered two because I thought it might disappear.
The staff is super friendly and doesn't hesitate to let you know about taps and types of beer. There is also a great outdoor area. I have been to Sume many times since that night. Recently, Baja has been going through a boom of home brewers and micro brewers. Last trip there they had some of these local flavors in bottle and on tap. Niiiiiiiice !!
When it comes to nightlife, Mexicali has bars, clubs, and restaurants, that become hot and cold very quickly. Sume is still standing.
Obviously, prices are higher for the US craft selection so if you don't want to spend too much just try something new and grab one of the Baja micro brews. Most likely you won't be disappointed.
Gracias !
