Our Texas friends had taken us here for a day trip on a Memorial weekend during Covid, and they didn't even know the name of the beach we were at. Actually, arriving at the beach was an adventure in itself. After exploring the Galveston area, we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. The friend we were with decided against driving her vehicle onto the beach. It had rained a lot the previous night, and there were a bunch of pools of water along the beach. We spotted many sedans and suvs getting stuck in the wet sand. Highly recommend driving your 4 wheel drive truck. One of my wife's friends had a Toyota 4 Runner so they made a couple of trips to pick us all up, and take us to the spot on the beach where they had set up our picnic. The ride through all the water, and through all the sand to get to our destination was a fun and rough one! Cool off-road experience!! There were a bunch of folks parked in their vehicles along the water line. Everyone set up for a good time. Vendors selling kites and balloons. There was even an ice cream truck roaming the beach selling ice cream. Very cool seeing families and friends hanging out and having a good time. There are no bathrooms at the beach. Fortunately, one of our friends had brought a pop up pod. One of those useful pop up tents that you can set up to use as a toilet among other things. Do your business inside, and have complete privacy. Beach was beautiful. Water was fine. Sunset was gorgeous. Terrific day trip with amazing friends we had at this beach (whatever the name was).

At this preserve I've seen: Red-shouldered hawks, coyotes, various species of ducks, cormorants, osprey, mullet, needlefish, Rosette Spoonbills, a Kingfisher, Red-winged Blackbird, Gafftop catfish, White and Brown Pelicans, Atlantic Laughing Gulls, Oyster Catchers, Killdeer, Cooper's hawks, Limpkins, Plovers, baby Redfish, White Ibis, various Herons and Egrets... Please don't litter. If you do, you will be bitten by a rattlesnake, then eaten by an alligator.

You can't drive on the beach but you park literally 10 feet or less from the beach and walk on and guess what? You have privacy. You don't have people right next to each other. This was a much better choice. The beach where you drive on we saw parents that had their kids butt ass naked on the beach. I was like wth. That was very odd. So yeah if you prefer privacy and pretty much having the beach all to yourself I would suggest this spot. We parked. Walked on the beach and enjoyed it for a good three hours. I would also suggest coming at 6/7 because you will get some cloud cover and not get sun burn. We really enjoyed this beach. 3 mints from the beach house we rented.

Parking in designated spots along the road. Not very busy, as there aren't many houses along this stretch of beach. Trash cans are available, but there are no restrooms or showers. It's purely a beach, which is all I'm looking for! So bring an umbrella, a cooler, and some friends and prepare for a relaxing day in the sun.

The water was brown, as usual, but the weather was actually quite nice. We arrived around 5 pm, which made a big difference since it wasn't nearly as hot. There were still plenty of people enjoying the beach from playing in the water, swimming, and relaxing. Overall, it was a nice little escape from Houston. I just wish there were actual restroom facilities nearby. If you're going to have a beach this close to Houston, having accessible bathrooms would make the experience so much better!

There's lots of clearly expensive development over here but it's open to public access. Galveston isn't overcrowded anyway but this part of the island is gorgeous. We got on the main…read moredrag, and drove east past the seawall and kept driving east until we hit the sign for East Beach. The drive back to East Beach is a little dicey, lots of sand on the road which did freak me out a little bit as my car did fishtail a little. But if you keep driving, you'll finally end up at East Beach. We only wanted to stay for a little while and do a walk so we chose to park in the free parking, which is right at the beginning of the parking lot. The free parking area isn't large, but when we were there, it was fairly empty. It was early on a Sunday morning, and the beach volleyball areas were packed, it looked like it was a league of some kind. The beach itself was deserted, and we walked to the east towards the point of the island. It was the day after July 4, so there was a fair amount of trash on the beach, probably from all the celebrations the night before. But as we were leaving, we saw park workers that were picking up the trash. At the eastern end of the beach, they don't permit swimming, but the beach itself was enjoyable to walk, and we found some nice shells. We also met some nice fishermen, who pulled in a small black tipped shark while we were there. They were fishing directly from the beach, so to be honest, the rest of the week we were a little nervous about being in the water, knowing that those sharks were swimming so close to shore. On our way out of the East Beach area, there are some pull off areas where you could see fisherman. We did pull off in one area to take a photo of the large tankers out on the water, and almost got stuck in the deeper sand, so be careful about that. We were glad we explored this area of the island.

This park sits almost halfway between Seawall Boulevard and Broadway Street on 27th St. It sits…read moresurrounded by local residential homes and the Holy Family Catholic school directly across the street. The 3-4 acre property has quite a large number of very well manicured old oak trees with just a few palms. There is a very nice gravel path that runs along the fenced perimeter. There are also numerous benches and uncovered picnic tables along with a fountain to drink from, but no grills. You can park along the street or choose the parking lot located on Avenue O. In the parking lot is a home designated as a Galveston landmark, which appears to be available for special occasions such as weddings. At the rear of the house sits the park and a pagoda, which is perfect for weddings. Definitely a very nice park to sit and relax in, and a very nice asset to the local community.
