Our return taxi didn't turn up an left two women in heels and evening dresses stranded. Fortunately for us the landlady at Harry's bar took us home and made sure we got back safely. Absolutely terrible service, no phone call or message to inform us either, this would be the most basic thing they could do and would just be common decency. Don't use this firm if you need to get home safe and sound because they're obviously take bookings and don't care whether they turn up or not, totally unreliable.

It felt nice being in a car in Whitby and being driven down from East Cliff at the Y' to The Geroge Hotel's New Quay Road Entrance. Whitby Bridge was open and was business as usual so we just drove over when the light went green and it cost the low end of every estimate I ever got in Whitby for this trip, even though it was metered. This business wasn't my first attempt to get a taxi for this journey however, these people were the first to be available when I called them.

Thank the LORD for Advanced Taxis. Seriously…read more I was at a gorgeous wedding on a beautiful October day...at Capheaton Hall. For those of you not in the Northumberland know, it is beautiful -- but also, quite remote. At least a 30 minute coach ride from Hexham. After many hours of partying (with many hours remaining) I was feeling the extreme need to get back to the hotel for some rest. With the coach not set to leave for another 4 hours, I was in a bit of a jam. Luckily I had bookmarked Kevin D's review for Advanced Taxis before I departed our hotel in Hexham...just in case! First off, they were absolutely so friendly. We called around 745pm for a taxi, and they arrived (texting and calling on their way) by 830pm. The driver was super courteous, friendly and engaged my husband in a conversation about the native wildlife. I learned that badgers really can mangle your car due to their hard skulls (and that they often walk away unharmed!)...and also that the trip from Capheaton Hall to Hexham is quite windy and daredevlish at night! Our driver handled it like a pro and knew exactly how to get us back to the Beaumont in good shape. The trip cost around 50 quid, not cheap -- but definitely worth it. They do take cards (even paypal!), but I'm sure cash is preferred. Our driver kindly stopped off at the Barclay's in Hexham for us to use the cash point. So if you are out in the middle of nowhere Northumberland -- Advanced Taxis will get you back where you need to go, in a jif. So glad I had them in my phone!

As someone…read morewho's been visiting the pub on and off for 20+ years I can say, hand on heart, this is the best thing that has ever happened to the Mowden. The new owners have managed to refurbish the pub whilst keeping a lot of what made the The Mowden "The Mowden". Whilst still a pub, the emphasis is now on the food and what a pleasant experience it is. All the food seems fresh and is rather tasty. The staff are helpful and pleasant and the atmosphere is just right for a nice family meal or a romantic meal for two..if you can get a table (so ring ahead and book one). Whilst there isn't a huge choice of dishes on the main menu, there are special daily dishes and certain nights cater to certain meal types along with all the other pub activities you'd expect. Drink wise however, I'm not sure what to think. One one hand they have some nice ales and beers now but on the other they got rid of some of my favorite brands in the change over. Regardless, if you've never been or not been in sometime, now is the time to visit and enjoy a newer nicer Mowden in every sense!

The room thou are probably what I would describe as ideal for contractors but not ideal to take the Mrs to but this was only my experience as I was located in the newer modern wing and not in the main hotel. The hotel gets many guests visiting to the restaurant and not booking into the hotel. The restaurant is extremely popular to locals and thou the menu is quit small, all of the food was cooked from fresh by chefs rather than from the freezer by cooks. The food here is absolutely spot-on and better than most restaurants. The staff are efficient, polite and friendly. In general it was quit cheap for the room, clean and food is 100% The hotel owners also own and run the local fishmongers what is the best I have ever come across. - See my reviews for Hodgson fishmonger in Hartlepool. The hotel therefore offers some really good, top quality, fresh fish in their restaurant.
