It is a geodesic dome that is 143 feet tall and has a diameter of 563 feet. Surprisingly, it is only the fifth largest dome in the world though it is the largest *wooden* dome. Some facts about the dome: - it has a retractable artificial turf carpet. - the first event here was in 1991, when the Wildcats defeated Indianapolis - the attendance record is 8672 - George W. Bush held a campaign rally here during the 2004 Presidential campaign. - the dome is visible from Lake Superior [Review 17917 overall - 323 in Michigan - 1438 of 2022.]

The historic Dee Stadium is one of the oldest ice rinks in the United States and is full of…read morehistory, including the birthplace of professional hockey, former home to the NCAA Div. 1 champion Michigan Tech hockey team and a great museum that depicts hockey in one of the hottest hockey hot beds in the United States. The ice is maintained excellently by a man who's passion is good ice. It shows. It's very cold for spectators. Bring a blanket and friends to sit by and you'll be FINE! Most of the rink is old, but it's also in pretty decent shape for what it is. They're working on a new ceiling right now, and half was done for the 2010-11 winter, and it looks much better. Hopefully the rest will be done the following summer. The rink is NOT open in the summer at all, which is a bummer. Make sure to get to the rink and watch the Portage Lake Pioneers and Houghton Gremlins high school hockey. Full schedules for both teams are available at the rink.

It seems like an issue with their projectors perhaps, but namely the screen is always noticeably dimmer than it should be, and there's also a persistent and not-to-so subtle flicker to the brightness of the picture (I noticed this last night in Theater 6). I have spoken with plenty of patrons who have noticed the same thing, find it distracting and ruinous to the moviegoing experience, and are now often conflicted about going to the theater due to picture issues. These picture issues have been ongoing for at least a couple years now, and I recall alerting staff a long time ago--they would say they'd tell the projectionist but nothing has changed. I am writing this strictly in the hopes that this can be addressed, and would gladly otherwise make this a five star review.

Elevated authentic farmhouse and saison style, (which has not been a favorite but made for quick converts when the brews are this exceptional). Visited on an off-season rainy Sat in May and the aesthetics alone (inside and out) were beautiful. Cozy and inviting, upscale not pretentious. Unique beers that were delicious and aromatic. Well worth visiting and as an event space, exceedingly lovely.
