Last year, I called the firm hoping to find a lawyer who would have my best interest at heart. The firm had quite a few good reviews online so I gave their firm a chance. During the consultation, she assured me she would be able to help me and guide me throughout the process. I paid $4,000 for the retainer and in just ONE MONTH Lauren had used up the entire retainer. Naturally, the firm required that I pay another $4,000 during the second month of my divorce process. Being that this is my first and hopefully my only divorce, I was not completely knowledgeable on how everything worked which is why I was hoping Lauren would be able to communicate things clearly with me and update me about the process. Little did I know every single simple text containing a question or two from me or a quick email, I was being charged for which is what was actually using up the money I deposited along with her arguing back and forth with the other party's lawyer. I have been completely vulnerable and honest about my situation to Lauren and yet I felt completely taken advantage of because instead of handling my divorce considering my budget and situation she completely disregarded my goals, instead kept utilizing her time charging me for things that did not accomplish any progress in the divorce. She kept going back and forth with the other party's lawyer when I have clearly explained I know they were doing that on purpose to waste my money and she still did not stop. I was obviously still being charged every time she would argue with my ex's lawyer. I have been frustrated with her service since I have had to ask her several times if there were other options to handle this divorce in a way that would be the most cost effective but aggressive. She then explained that it is impossible to have a divorce be cost effective and aggressive at the same time since the latter requires more money. I had to consult other lawyers while she was still my lawyer to truly find out if there was absolutely no other option for me. When I finally spoke to her about other options I've heard, that was the only time she actually agreed there were other options available. Unfortunately I had to cut ties because their service was becoming too expensive requiring the retainer fee of $4000 every month. I had to practically beg the finance department/person to work with my budget before they even considered allowing me to pay monthly instead of one lump sum payment. Months later when I was able to finally recover financially and hire a lawyer. My lawyer informed me that Lauren, failed to file one of the most important documents (FL-141) in the beginning of my divorce. After everything I was charged it was extremely difficult for me to fathom how that document did not get filed when I was charged for everything else so truly if anyone thinks about it what the hell was she even doing that whole time? When I tried to get a hold of her to find out why she would neglect filing a simple but important document she was extremely difficult to communicate with because after a couple of texts, she ignored my messages. She insisted (in an email later on that the office was closed from September 1-4) but I contacted her the Thursday BEFORE THEIR OFFICE CLOSED FOR THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND during business hours too. I even waited until Tuesday (the day after Labor Day) to contact her again being that their office was already open but STILL NO RESPONSE FROM HER when I'm sure at this point she's already seen my messages. She did not even acknowledge receipt of my messages with a simple message informing me she will respond when she can. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL It wasn't until I called her several times that she finally had the decency to respond but not without letting me know I was bothering her because she was in a meeting. In an email she later sent to me she basically blamed me for the reason why she did not file the document because I apparently did not complete it yet she never mentioned that or even reminded me that I had to complete the document in order to move forward with the divorce. WHAT KIND OF PROFESSIONAL TRULY BLAMES THE CLIENT WHO HAS NO KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE ON THE MATTER ABOUT FAILING TO COMPLETE A DOCUMENT WHEN IT SHOULD BE THE LAWYER'S JOB TO INFORM THE CLIENT? To my knowledge I have already completely filled out the documents and even submitted all my statements how was I supposed to know there was something else I needed to fill out when I was not informed?
