I can't say enough positive things about the McPherson RV Ranch. We stayed almost a week and a…read morehalf while we were in town for our son's graduation. Jim and Lori, the owners, are so friendly and hospitable. They keep a clean ranch! The showers are the nicest and cleanest of anyplace we've ever stayed and include the the little things that make camp showering easier for someone with mobility impairment: shelf for shampoo, grab bars, good wide bench, etc. Clean laundry room. Storm shelter available. Very quiet except for a little bit of traffic sound from the highway. It's unfortunate about the negative review below. But I can say that the concrete driveway is brand new and they do like keeping their place clean. I don't think I'd want big hunks of mud being left on the driveway either! If you plan to have regularly muddy tires, then the Love's RV stop with all the noise of the Jake-brakes is probably a better choice for everyone involved. I look forward to staying the next time I'm in the area, and as always, I'm glad to support small, local businesses.

They have a nice pavilion with porch swing, chairs and benches, bar b q pit and bar area. We enjoyed sitting there at dusk watching all the fireflies. They have a nice fire pit, horseshoe pit, ladder golf, bathrooms and nice laundry room. Lots of trees. There is a trail and creek, although, we didn't check it out. Gentleman managing was very nice and friendly. Price was very reasonable.

We got a pretty good scoop from a local explaining ( legitimized my complaint) the ill tempered Mitch and his Partner when discussing things like Park cleanliness, broken glass in the so called beaches- all which haven't been maintained for at least 3 to 5 years depending on who you talk to. Mitch the officer/ of sorts, had the typical can't handle truth from a customer attitude. I complained that they describe beaches and fishing within walking distance- while true, the beaches are littered and over grown with trash, diapers ( literally watch a staff on a cart look at the trash on the beach and keep going leaving behind the obvious diaper/ glass bottles and large liter bottle of coca cola right where my family was sitting at the tables). I described the beach conditions with broken glass, shown in my previous reviews online, and how nasty the beaches ( all 3) really were. Then, When I talk to locals, they describe the two officers as" hot heads that dont care". Apparently True- I was shrugged off and told the conditions were a " matter of opinion. Rather unprofessional to say the least. I have yet to hear from and of the council members ( I emailed all) and haven't seen a response. I ALSO contacted the New Director- no response. Apparently tax payers may not have a voice, but while the beaches look like crap and are unsafe for children, bare feat and all, the 40 empty pavilions aren't enough...they can put up new pavilions for the cabins but can't spend a grand or 2 to clean up their beaches. Terrible business planning and management. Terrible experience except for the camp hosts- and completely unprofessional. I may return but unlikely soon- that place looks run down. Ol Mitch said it himself, he " doesn't swim in that lake" No kidding. I bet his girls wpuld be caught on them beaches.

On Thursday we were 1 of about 5 campers in the entire Heimerman Point Campground. By Friday, it was about half full and quite busy- this definitely seems like a campground enjoyed by many on the weekends. I did not visit the onsite bathrooms to comment on them, but the campsites were very clean, the firepits well taken care of, and I love how there are labels on the campsites with your name showing your reservation. The parking fee payments are very easy to complete. The dump station is a bit archaic compared to other campsites we have been to, but it worked for the what we needed- to dump. We did see park rangers driving around but did not interact with employees in person, only by phone when we made the reservation.

She kept saying it isn't her fault that there isn't any water in the lake. And that the website does say that the lake is empty. When we asked for a refund, she said that is not going to happen because all of the fee's are nonrefundable. The park is dated but well kept. The park does have on site laundry. The newer sites offer little shade and are very close together for those who have double slide outs. Sand Hills State Park. Oh dear. What to say. It's one of the newest Kansas state parks. They've…read moreplanted trees but they are still tiny. No shade anywhere. The park is a big circle arranged around a man-made pond, or perhaps an old oxbow. I anticipate a lot of flying insects tonight. No swimming. No privacy. I can see the entire park and see each and every site. The hookups are fine. Unfortunately my site #44 is the furthest from the shower house. I don't mind the walk but I will get blasted by the sun. And everyone here will see my progress. There is a ditch with stagnant water on the other side of my site. It's hard to know why the park is here. There seems to be no relationship to sand hills, although I can see a few in the distance outside the park. There are a number of livestock pens so they must be thinking of visitors and displayers at the Kansas State Fair, which is held nearby. There are no trails adjacent to the campground. I don't know where horses would go, for equestrian campers. Everything is white gravel, bare, just exposed bright space. AND there is a white line on the drive which indicates "ATV lane." Oh my god. Luckily there are only a few people here. Imagine drunk ATV riders, or dumb little kids zamming around. I would have gone somewhere else but a quick check of RV parks nearby showed only one promising park but as the owners say on their website "we are new." Codeword: No trees. A photo of the campground confirmed it. So here I sit, sitting in an exposed, bleached lunar landscape of a park.

The trail was beautiful and our guide Keaton was great. He stopped to show us a baby deer and take our pictures along the way. The horses were also very well taken care of, they told us some of the animals were rescued as well, which made it even better and showed how much they care about the treatment of the animals! After the trail we were able to meet "Waldo" the cutest calf and even feed some horses, visiting from Chicago this place was a breathe of fresh air, such an awesome experience and we will definitely be back!
