Legal Sheild provider Bervar and Jones in Honolulu Hi., has consistently delivered terrible service in the last 18 months. I've been a member since 2016 it's true they previously offered some value considering the price. However, it appears they have either purchased reviews from Yelp or used abandoned profiles as many 5 stars reviews have appears in the last year for Legal Shield This is a well documented way to improve online marketing reviews. The 1, 2 and 3 stars reviews are all 2 to 6 years old. So buyer beware. My last experience with a lawyer from Legal Shield last week resulted in the lawyer hanging up on me. Previously two questions asked in the last five months were answered at a very poor standard of less than 10% of what was requested. read more

When my upstairs neighbor's water pipe broke, it caused substantial water damage to my bathroom ceiling. I was under a lot of stress. I've had the LegalShield membership since 2009 & use it quite often. The first time in Hawaii was in 2017 because my condo was flooding & covered in mold. My family evacuated to a hotel & the property manager refused to give us our deposit or rent back so we could move. A lawyer from Bervar & Jones reviewed my lease & sent a letter to the property manager. Within an hour of them receiving it, the normally unreachable owner of the company called to apologize & scheduled to personally deliver me the check for the money owed & said I could take all the time I needed to move out. This was one of the most stressful things to deal with since I had 3 kids in school, my self & our dog all getting sick while my husband was deployed. I don't know what we would have done without the success & timeliness of this result. For $30 that month I received over $4,500 in relief. The last time I called them, my dog was bit by another dog waiting to check in at the groomers. The big name store promised to pay for damages &/ give the name of the dogs owner. Neither happened. They ignored me entirely. Tuan Costa, an awesome lawyer whose also helping me set up my LLC, wrote the pet store a letter asking for the amount of my vet bill. It was only $244 but it was the principal of it. I've spent that several times over getting both dogs groomed there. I just received the call from Tuan, that the company replied with the check for my vet bill. For the cheapest bill in my house, it packs the most punch & has paid for itself for years. I signed up for LegalShield for my business not knowing which Legal firm was going to be in charge of reviewing my business engagement letter once I signed up. Well when I found out it was going to be Bervar and Jones and I did a quick google search to find their business hours, my heart dropped seeing all of the 1 star reviews for this place. Since I had already paid for the first month's subscription with LegalShield I thought, well why not just give them a shot and call their office for help. The person answered the phone right away (this was late morning on a Tuesday), and he kindly asked some questions about my business and what I was looking for, then sent me an email while on the call to open up my case. Following that call, I attached the engagement letter document that I needed to have reviewed and sent it back to their office email. A few hours later, I receive a text and a phone call from Bernice Krause, the lawyer who was in charge of reviewing my document, and she kindly let me know that she received my email and would be getting back to me within 3 business days (so no later then the end of the week since this call was on a Tuesday). She also let me know that once she reviewed the letter, she would call me back and go through the document with me. The next day, Wednesday, she called me back a little after noon and ran through little tweaks and fixes that I needed to make. She was patient with me and waited until I had my document in front of me so I could adjust accordingly and made the whole process very smooth. This was all also covered under the $50 monthly fee that I had initially paid to LegalShield. Personally, I had a really great and stress free experience with Bervar and Jones as well as with Bernice Krause (thank you!) but I do want to say that this might've been because what I needed to have reviewed was a very simple engagement letter contract that I was needing in order to run my business. Also, I didn't have much to fix on my engagement letter so that could've been why it was covered under the initial $50 as well. Either way, thank you Bervar and Jones and Bernice Krause for providing me with a more affordable option to have my contract reviewed! read more

I've found their legal team adept at handling several scenarios, from general counsel, to contract creation and revision, to traffic court. For the price I pay monthly, I consider their services to be highly valuable as they take of all my legal matters. I highly recommend it. The absolute worst customer service! I've been waiting over a month for a simple letter. The attorney tried to push my case to another law firm in the mainland. Delaying it another week. Apparently they will not get back to you for up to three days! But they don't count the first day so it ends up to be four days! So then we are going on two weeks now for a letter. The attorney calls me and says, " what do you want in your letter?". Takes four days to write it, I call after no letter is received. Oh, I'll have the attorney call you in three days! Do you see where this is going? The only thing they are consistent on is collecting your money! They got a second month of pay for doing absolutely nothing! read more

This is the only law firm working with LegalShield in Hawaii which is unfortunate because, 1) Most of the time they do not answer the phone when you call 2) When they do answer and you explain why you're calling, they say someone will get back to you and they NEVER do 3) If you are very fortunate to speak to someone, their response/advise is inadequate So if you have LegalShield, good luck, you're gonna need it. I have been using Bervar and Jones and prepaid legal for what seems like decades. They are very polite and organized. They get back to us rapidly. The pre-paid side is managed by Tuan Costa. She is not only a top notch atty, she is very sharp, and brings common sense into her management style and advice. They have helped me out of some sticky situations innumerable times. Often their advice has saved me hundreds, if not thousands. There are many very qualified attorneys at the firm. Sometimes, it's just good to know you options, or be told what risks you may be taking. The attorneys there are good at this too. My feeling is they try to OVER deliver. Thuan Costa is a totally worthless attorney! When I had a dispute with a college internship program, I contacted this firm and I get this worthless attorney who wanted to do everything over the phone instead of meeting in person (this was pre-covid) where I can point to documents instead of having to waste my breath explaining things, which can be difficult for me due to speech impediments. It turned out Thuan Costa violated her own firm's policy by not offering an in-person consultation. Thuan Costa is just another quack who offers poor service at ripoff prices! read more

This company continues to disappoint me. Evidently, they are the contractors for a monthly subscription low cost legal service. I called to ask a question and the intake person (who was nice and cordial, by the way) said he would email me the intake number for my case and that someone would call me by the end of the day. I did get a call and did not get anywhere with my questions. The person said that they would have to see the papers before answering any questions. Well, hello? How can I send any papers if I don't have an intake number. They need to get their act together. I felt the person was just insensitive to my particular case and my sensitive situation. I guess you get what you pay for. I don't know how these guys stay in business. I will cancel my subscription. read more

Terrible Customer Service is an under statement! I spoke with attorney T.C. regarding a case. She asked for me to send the corresponding documents. I did. The firm confirmed they received the documents and they would get back to me in 3 business days. I spoke with attorney T.C. and told her there was a deadline on my part and if they could get back to me sooner? She confirmed again they have the document and that they would try but they couldn't guarantee sooner. I checked in after 2.5 business days. The receptionist said an attorney would call me tomorrow. Attorney K.F. called me the next day. He said that he did not look over my document yet. And he opened it while I was on the phone. At that point he said, "The document is 20 pages, which is over the 15 page limit. I'll have to get you a price quote for us to read the document and get back to you in another 3 days with the quote." I said 1. The document I need reviewed isnt as long as the attachment. It was a pdf so I had to send it all together. There are other irrelevant pages of photos etc. on the attachment. Attorney K.F. repeated the same thing that he was not going to review my document on time, by the deadline provide by the law firm and that he could get back to me in another 3 days with a price quote to review my document! I told attorney that this is unacceptable because I have confirmed with his colleagues since last week, the past 5 days that they have my document and that an attorney would get back to me after they review the document within the next 3 days. And today is the end of those 3 days, the deadline I was given by multiple people at his firm. And I have a deadline too. Attorney K.F. said, "We are getting nowhere, I'm gonna hang up." Then immediately he hung up the phone on me. I was livid at how, I the client and member was disrespected and mistreated. I called back the firm and told the receptionist that I wanted to speak with a supervisor and that this treatment is unacceptable. The receptionist said she would have a supervisor call me back. I received a call back from attorney R. He said he was calling to schedule an appointment for me with the supervisor. He asked me what time worked for me tomorrow because the supervisor wasnt available today. I replied, "How about 1030/11am?" Attorney R replied that shes available at 1130 and she doesnt have anything scheduled after so how about that time? I replied, "That's great. 1130am works." Several hours later, attorny R calls me back asking, "What time did we decide on tomorrow that Attorney T.C., the supervisor would call you at?" I said, "1130am. That's the time that you said works best for her." He said, "Oh ok. Thank you. I'll put it down. Yeah, that's right!" So today, its 1223pm, the day of my scheduled appointment with the supervisor, I get up early make sure I have everything ready. And 1130 comes around. No phone call. 1145 comes around no phone call. At 1150am, 20mins past our appointment time, I call the firm. I tell the receptionist C the situation that I had an appointment with T.C. at 1130am and I'm still waiting for her to call me. She said, "I'm sorry, please hold." Receptionist C puts me on hold for several minutes and comes back on the line and says, "I'm sorry, but attorney T.C. isnt answering. I cant get ahold of her and dont know where she is. Maybe possibly her client before you is keeping her on the phone longer than she expected. I dont know." I remind C that I had an appointment at 1130am and I've been waiting around and I have other things I need to do today. Receptionist C said, "My hands are tied. All I can do is send a message to the attorney to call you asap". I'm so done. Right now, its 1 hour past my appointment time no word from the attorney. read more

I signed up for LegalShield and wanted to utilize the one consultation with an attorney about a matter as promised on the firm's and LegalShield's website. Since my matter involved 2 states, I thought LegalShield would be the easiest way to be referred to an appropriate attorney. My case was just passed back-and-forth between the 2 firms for an entire week with me not being able to speak to anyone. It finally became clear that I would never get to speak to anyone unless I wanted to pay the full hourly rate. That doesn't even make sense, because in previous matters needing an attorney, I have been able to have an initial call to determine if my case has merit and for me to decide if I want to use that attorney, as well as the attorney wanting to take on the case. It seems they just want to get paid and not really do any work. Stay away from LegslShield and this law firm. read more

I am a pre legal customer for over 20 years. I know that I have them just in case of matters with the vendors that I deal with. I want to Thank so much to Ryan Lorenzo for assisting me in getting all my deposit from Hi Power Solar in Pearl City. In 2021, they gave me an estimate for a roof and fixing in the Lanai. 2 years later and nothing was done, I was very upset in Hi Power solar in getting my deposit back. I called Bervar and Jones and sent all the documents needed for a letter to be drafted. It only too Ryan a couple of days to draft a letter and for me to approve it. We got our deposit back with no hassle. I was surprised to get the deposit back so quickly. Ryan was always there to answer any questions and I felt I was taken care of. I signed up for LegalShield a couple of months ago. Bervar and Jones is the only law firm contracting with LegalShield. I talked to the attorney RC. He asked me to email him the information, and in three days, he told me he didn't review it because it is more than 15 pages. I said there are only 4 pages that contain words and the rest of the pages are either map, signature, or blank. He said he didn't check it once he saw the pages are more than 15 pages. Anyhow, the second time, I emailed him 4 pages, and in three days, he came back and said he could not revise it or make any changes because it isn't covered by my plan. I need to pay an extra fee for it. The third time, I talked to him again and emailed him the information as he requested, and in three days, he came back and said he couldn't do it and his owner, Bervar and Jones don't want to take this work either. If he couldn't help me, why didn't he tell me in the first place? The supervisor, JC contacted me afterward but didn't get me anywhere either and all she tried to say is their attorney tried to help. What did they exactly help me for? Totally WASTING my time and energy. I think they collect money every month from LegalShield and that is why they keep delaying the time, so they can get paid. read more
