Still, they weren't willing to speak up because they were hoping for a better review from the school as the kids went to private. My son's teacher was obnoxious; she had no respect for anyone. She applauded kids who were socially outranking each other and didnt appreciate the introverts or slow speakers. As a bilingual family, we were frowned upon, and our son's personality was constantly pushed around as a delay or blaming it because we were bilingual. Our interactions with the school during the parent meetings were dry. There was zero compassion and interest in your child's attitude. Extremely short days and holidays took a significant toll on us because we never felt our kid had a constant school day to settle, make friends, or learn anything. The Montessori concept is working in silo for most hours of the day; I noticed my son would pick the wrong items to match or do something terrible that wouldn't get corrected because Montessori meant independence. I witnessed this when I was there for Mother's Day. My heart is sad and angry at the same time as I type this, but I am thrilled that my eyes and brain worked at the right time before we made a mess with our son's life. He is so happy at his new school.

They taught us how to most effectively deal with the very few times he had tantrums at home. He wakes up in the morning, picks out his own outfit for the day, brushes his own teeth, prepares his own breakfast (banana or pre-cut fruit from the fridge), asks questions about why the world works, can sit and play independently for hours, and will come to me and tell me, "Mommy, I need a hug." "I need some attention." "I need your help in ____, ___, ___" whenever his needs aren't met. Mixed-age classrooms were also incredibly helpful at this developmental age. The older kids teach the younger ones how to become more independent, and now that my son is one of the older children; he has been so patient with the younger kids and babies, teaching them what he was taught. This place is run by a dictator on a power trip. My daughter spent 1 month at this disaster. At…read moredrop off on day 1, the school's second in command yelled at my wife for dropping my daughter off 15 minutes earlier than the assigned drop off time. It was the first day so we weren't aware that the school's open hours are not the same as the assigned hours for your child. It was a precursor for what was to come. In the 1 month my daughter attended here, she was sent home 4 separate times for having a runny nose, even though she was not sick. Each time she was not allowed back without a doctor's note. Each time, the doctor said she was healthy and fine. I had to watch my daughter for 13 days that month--shuttling her to doctors to get a note to satisfy the mad woman running this place. All the while, I'm paying this place (and the doctors) and hoping my work wouldn't fire me. When I brought up the ridiculousness of the policy with an email, the head kicked my daughter out of the school. The idea that the people here care about your child is a farce. Leaving this place was a blessing. If the toxic fumes from the adjacent auto repair shops are not enough for you to avoid this place, I hope my caution here gives some insight to the toxicity inside. If you do join here, make sure you don't question the supreme overlord. Or maybe you should so you can get out of your contract and go to a better place.

Both of them went on to highly selective schools afterwards and had a common issue for TMS graduates-they were a year+ ahead of their peers. The students there are academically advanced because they understand the material more deeply than through typical teaching methods. They also learn to be part of a community and to relate to the broader world. The proof is in the pudding: one of ours went to a selective college at 16 and the other is getting straight As at a competitive private high school. I can't say enough about how strong this tiny school is.

They write weekly emails with pictures and descriptions of children performing their Montessori "works" and are very responsive to questions or concerns. There is also a small garden outside where the kids grow vegetables. My daughter has learned so much over the past three years. She never wants to leave at the end of the day.
