Traveler warning - Florence, Italy Today I exchanged US$200 at Best and Fast Change in Florence and received only €113.55. I was not told the exchange rate or the commission before handing over my cash. When I realized how little I had received, I immediately asked to cancel the transaction, but the request was refused. I called the police and was told that if I wanted to pursue the matter, I would need to file a formal complaint at the police station. Please always ask exactly how much you will receive before handing over your money, and get the exchange rate and all fees in writing. This was my personal experience. This Best and Fast change kiosk which you easily see them all over Italy are big crooks, with a license to steal your money, very trickily and sure they are unscrupulous people work for a crooked company. I lost 36£ in a few seconds when I change a $100 to Euro. I did ask the cashier how much I would get for $100, he said 95£ but he gave me just 59£ - when I refused to accept that change, the cashier said NO refund as I bought perishable food, not dirty currency. I called the Carabinieri and they try to void the transaction but the Cashier refused. So I went to the Carabinieri station and filed a report, but still, I could not get my money back, that country is corrupted from the little person on the street up to the biggest head .....WATCH OUT THAT CROOK COMPANY IS AFTER THE TOURIST. Total rip-off! Their sign said 1.24 but the gave us 1.6 with no explanation. It works out to 25% "commission" which is outrageous! I felt like an idiot but thankfully only changed $400.00. She gave me a sheet saying we only get $689 instead of $870, and I told her that was incorrect and we don't agree. They charged 19.9% of your exchange money, and then charge 9 euro (yes, 19.9%m which means, if you exchange $100, they will get the money fewer than $70 worth of euro). Scammers don't ever use them. They will charge a flat fee plus commission.

I wouldn't even consider using them in the future. I gave them $100 US and per the large sign above the clerk's head was expecting about 87 Euros. He hands me 52 Euros. When i asked him about the sign above his head, he referred me to a much smaller, rotating sign way at the base of the large sign, and that smaller rotator advised periodically that they charge outlandish commissions. So basically a bait and switch. I think they sit in a protected cage not so much for thieves coming at them, but to protect them from irate customers. This outfit is swarmy.
