Clean and tidy hotel, conveniently located about one kilometer from the Bamberg Bahnhof (train station). There is also plenty of signage from the train station, to the point where you're almost at the hotel, to let you find your way after about a ten minute walk. Persevere, the road bends a bit to the left, and you wonder if you've passed the hotel, but it will show on a sign on the left side of Luitpoldstraße. All of the staff at the reception desk with whom I interacted had at _least_ adequate English for me to communicate effectively. One, last name Kalb, was both very friendly and very fluent in her English. She gave me directions to a nearby butcher shop (metzgerei) where I'd hoped to find a piece of Franconian smoked pork like I bought on a previous visit. Found the shop, not the pork of choice. The hotel accepts each of the most common credit cards, and serves a pretty extensive breakfast. Mine was unusual, in that there were 18 Swedish tourists in the room, all speaking to one another in very strange-sounding English. Frau Kalb also gladly arranged a taxi for me, from the hotel, back to the train station, whence I began my trip to my next destination - Rüdesheim am Rhein.
The room comes with Wi-Fi, or "WLAN" which the Germans call "VAY-lahn." I dislike the yelp label of "free" for Wi-Fi. Although I'm not paying EXTRA for it, the cost of providing it to guests is surely calculated into the cost of my room, so face it, it ain't "free." read more
