When we pulled up to the property I was a tad hesitant as it was quite dated (I felt like I'd time traveled to the early 70s). We had lower level room right next to the pool/hot tub building. Because it was the weekend many of the hotels in the area were booked up. This hotel was over $100 for the night with breakfast included. Take note that if you are on the 2nd floor there is no elevator so you have to drag your bags up the stairs. The hotel rooms are dated but very spacious with a small bathroom. We had no choice but to check in because it was getting late. The lady in the front was not too helpful. Ended up we got a suite but there was a fly trapped in our room all night. So annoying. Then we had to ask for water and cookie. You would think that having 4 people would qualify for 4 bottles and 4 cookies. Nope. 1 cookie and 2 water. Oh the outlets on the lamps are so lose that it is not charging. Then breakfast time there is no juice and everything was out and no one cares to refill. The guy in the front has longer hair than me and no hairnet serving food. Ugh! Then no bathroom in the building and you have to walk to the pool. I am pretty sure it is a violation because the door is unlock and any kids can walk in. They are asking for lawsuit if a kid died drowning! Could not be happier with Lee's Motor Inn. I live on the East Coast, where hotel rooms are $$$ and very small. The rooms at Lee's are huge, and the price is so, so affordable. Second, the continental breakfast was amazing with hot biscuits and gravy, a make-your-own waffle bar, and other delicious warm options. Third, the staff (check-in, managers, cleaners, etc.) are all warm and helpful with top-notch, friendly service. Next, I like where it's located, just off Highway 16 bridge with great views of the Missouri River and bluffs. Finally, hotel patrons are friendly, often setting up folding chairs outside rooms and "tail gating" in friendly fellowship. Can't say enough good things about Lee's! This was the first time I've stayed there. (Usually, I stay at the much more expensive and definitely snootier Cedar Shores when I visit Chamberlain.) Not anymore! This motel is a few miles off the highway but if heading west, you continue across the bridge and back on to the main road. The motel is a bit older but you can see where they made some updates on the inside. The rooms aren't bad but nothing to write home about. They do include a free continental breakfast which is pretty solid and enough to get you going. I would stay here again if my travels require a night in Chamberlain, SD. read more

We discovered this place as we were trying to find an inexpensive - but clean - place to crash on our drive out to Custer State Park. The reviews of this hotel were good and you couldn't go wrong with the price! ($60/night). We checked in at 1 AM and were pleased to see an envelope and key waiting for us. We only stayed for a few hours (checked out by 8 am), but found the hotel to be clean and relatively modern for the location! They had a hot continental breakfast (we didn't partake, but it looked decent), excellent customer service, and are pet-friendly. Overall, GREAT value and a great place to crash on your way from MN to SD! read more

Next time I will stay in the car. The thing is this, if you are on I-90 and must travel through South Dakota. I strongly recommend skipping Chamberlain, SD. BUT if you must stay there, do anything you possible can to avoid staying here. We got a non smoking room, yet my luggage came out smelling like an ashtray. I wore socks and shoes on the carpet. It should be noted this is now a Best Western, though still called Lee's Motor Inn along with that. After a long day on the road I just wanted a place to crash, this place was more then ample. The room was very clean and well cared for. There was quite a bit of space in the room, even a recliner. it stayed pretty quiet all night, though in the morning there was someone in the next room or two over that I could clearly hear sounding like they were coughing up a lung in a way that made me cringe a little. So I don't know how well the sound-proofing would hold up if there was actually noisy stuff going on around you all night. There was also a couple of people that sat out in the parking lot smoking for the better part of the night. Didn't bother me, but might put some people off. Overall though, nice, clean, quiet and lots of parking spaces. read more

I don't often give five stars, simply because not many things are 100% perfect. This motel was a bit off the freeway, but easy enough to find. The front desk lady was kind and helpful. Our room was clean and just what we needed. The breakfast was delicious... hot waffles, oatmeal, sausage, eggs and biscuits and gravy, cold cereal, Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches, and all types of breads to toast. Just fine motel across the street from the Missouri River in downtown Chamberlain. Room was clean, bathroom clean (toilet and bath/shower in separate room, sink and vanity off the bedroom area) . Flat screen TV with remote. Remote has a sleep function. Parking in front. Bed comfortable. Room has recliner and table and chair. We stayed in room 2 a week ago, I spotted a beetle of some sort in the door frame of the bathroom, woke up in the morning to about 3 beetles in the sink area and also in the door frame next to wear you hang your jackets etc. Kindly mentioned this to the young man when we checked out, his reply its that time of year. I will leave it at that, you decide, lights off at night, beetles in the morning. Next time we will choose another motel in the area read more

Bed bugs!!!! We checked in, walked into our room and initially started to think we should have driven a little further to stay at a nicer place but we thought we'd give it a chance. Approximately 15-20 minutes after crawling into bed I was bitten by a very small bug!! I checked and found a couple more!! We got out of their in a hurry!! Place smelled like mold and the air quality in the room wasn't great either!! Small rooms and older style motel. Not recommended. Pay $10 more to stay at the Quality Inn down the street or AmericInn down the road!!! read more

Let me be blunt: this was the worst hotel room I've stayed in, in about 20 years. Everything about it said old, old and old. The beat-up door, the oft-repainted walls, the stained ceiling tiles, the ancient thermostat, the equally ancient air conditioning unit (which appeared to have mold in the vents). The only modern thing in the room was an HDTV. Were I not exhausted from 15 hours of driving, I would have asked for my money back and left. But I was beat. So I killed the family of flies which was living in the room, lay down on the bed and immediately fell asleep. The next morning the fun continued. This place's idea of a hot breakfast buffet was a plate of those Jimmy Dean microwaveable breakfast sandwiches. Is it that hard to whip up a tray of scrambled eggs? This place caters to fishermen (it's a stone's throw from the Missouri) and idiots like me who think Chamberlain might be a good place to stay between Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Don't make the same mistake I did. Drive on to Mitchell or Pierre. Sleep in your car at a rest stop. But don't stay here. It's little more than a fishing camp that the owners haven't bothered to update (except for the TVs) in half a century. read more

Thank goodness for severe sinus infection otherwise the mildew smell would have been intolerable. Thought it would let up with time but only stayed in air. Only as we left did I notice most of the door sills tilted towards rooms so I imagine the rainy weather the region experienced was partially the culprit. Whole room was musty including bedding. Got some rest and left ASAP. On a positive note the breakfast was good with fresh fruit. But cannot recommend. read more

Granted this is opening pheasant weekend in SD. That said, our assigned room was not cleaned and the bed unmade. The night manager was sweet but not well trained and had to keep calling someone for help. It took forever to get checked in and get assigned a new room. It was cleaned and ready for us but had a floor lamp that didn't work and an outlet that wouldn't charge my wife's iPad. Bed bug alert. This place was awful. The first thing I noticed was dirty sheets. I had to ask for new ones which I was pissed because my kids layed on someone's used sheets. Then I went to shower and noticed the tub was disgusting. Not just "missed a spot" but NEVER cleaned. Full of hair amd grum. We were not the only ones who noticed ned bugs. Another little girl had a ton of bites the next morning. Her legs were covered. That is wrong on so many levels. Reception was sarcastic when I mentioned bed bugs, "I think you'll be fine". I always check yelp before staying in hotels because reviews are most accurate and I fear this exact scenario but didn't have service this time. Do not stay here read more

What a dump. It's a couple miles off of I-90 and you have to drive through a long 20mph zone. All are outside entrance rooms. It's dirty and people all over drinking and smoking. Very expensive for what it is. Tiny TV, gross looking room. Not a comfortable place, best western should be ashamed. Hot breakfast? Ya right, I saw what they had and headed to McDonald's. I will not ever return and might even ask best western for my money back. This is a $45 motel that they charge $85 for. BRUTAL! The employee I dealt with was fine. read more

If I could give this place a 1/2 star, I would! The check in was fine, but the room is disgusting. Not only does it have an overpowering musty order to it (I rubbed lavender oil under my nose hoping it would help with the smell), we found toenail clippings on the carpet floor. We just needed a clean room and a comfortable bed. This motel fit the bill perfectly. The room was HUGE. It was dated, but very clean. We didn't utilize the pool, but it looked very nice. It seemed like it was newer and in a separate building. I wish we would have had more time to swim. The breakfast was standard and just fine for us. Inexpensive, clean, and friendly staff. The hotel was just off the highway, and was across the street from the Missouri River. Great view, and easy walk to anything on the main strip. Hubby and I were road tripping and needed a place to stay between Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Upon arrival, I was dismayed to see that the rooms were the type where you have a door directly to the outside; however, once we checked in, we had a room upstairs on the inside. We opted for a queen bed. The room was tiny, and it smelled a bit musty, but otherwise was clean and just what we needed. I heard a pretty consistent booming sound like machinery outside, but that did not keep me from sleeping, as the bed was relatively comfortable. WiFi was spotty and unreliable. The breakfast was more than I could have hoped for, with freshly made eggs and sausages! We did not use the pool or hot tub, but noticed that they are in a separate building from the motel. The staff overall were nice, but not as friendly as other places we stayed in South Dakota. With a bit of updating, this place could be as welcoming as any other 2 or 2.5 star motel. read more
