I was very excited to stop by Bethany Beach Books and I think it's insanely awesome that this bookstore is just a small walk to the beach. I found out about this bookstore from one of my favorite authors who had stopped in and signed a bunch of books! The bookstore is crowded like it's filled to the brim with books so much so that there are piles on the floor. It was pretty organized! There was something pretty niche my fiancé was looking for that they didn't have but otherwise I feel like they had a good selection! They had quite a few workers and there was never a long line! I also liked that they gave out bookmarks with the purchase! There was an author outside signing her book so I ended up picking that up! They did have a lot of cool gifting stuff and I also picked up postcards here as there really wasn't a souvenir style shop that had actual Bethany merch. I'm my favorite part of the store is the little "rotunda" ? Not sure if you can call it that but all in all this place was pretty great! read more

Really really rude customer service, and only specifically when I asked for help. They have a great selection of books especially for kids. What really really turned me off was the amount it cost in addition to the actual product just to use a credit or debit card. Come on! It's 2024! That's part of having a business! There are always great deals and the title I'm looking for is there 9 times out of 10. On the off chance the title isn't there, they'll order it for you. Wife needed a book for the beach. Headed here from Fenwick. Parking was horrific, dropped off the wife and rode around until she was done. They also have special events--with author signings, a frequent buyer club and currently, they are having a big Labor Day book sale. I could spend hours in this shop. They have a wide variety of books. I love how they have best sellers and recommended staff picks. I picked up a recommendation from the staff and it was very good. They also offer descriptions for many of the books which is nice. Would definitely stop in again. read more

My friend and I came to the book store during the off season (March) and it was a great spot to stop and look around. I've been coming to this area since I was a wee lass. If you ran out of beach reads you generally went to an Atlantic Book Store. However, Atlantic Book Stores are things of the past along with rotary phones and pay phones. Stopped in today, what a charming shop! They had a great children's book author autographing his books and interacting with young readers! An excellent bargain selection of hardbacks in the 5-9 dollar range and a wide selection. A book for every member of your crew! They also had a great selection of books on the local beach towns which my mother really enjoyed perusing. What a gem of a bookstore! Love this little bookstore! It's one of the first places we go to when returning to Bethany. Great selection for all ages. It has nooks to disappear in while surrounded by books. Love the handmade wooden bookmarks by artist Chuck Meriwether. They also have a nice selection of journals and higher end art materials. It reminds me of the great local bookstores in the Outer Banks and Maine. Staff has always been kind and easy to talk with. This place is a family favorite and one we've had long memories with. read more

I was very impressed with this gem of a bookstore located right in town! They had a great selection of Star Wars books for my early reader son. He is excited to be reading while on vacation! (Score!). There was comfortable seating in a few places in order to peruse the books you may want to buy. All the best sellers seemed to be in stock. As we were walking to the checkout I decided to pay cover price for one on the shelf. Hey, gotta support the local businesses! The lady at the checkout was very pleasant and attentive. Knocked off a star due to one surly employee sitting in a back room who gave me and my son dirty looks while walking in front of and practically over us to get by because my son was knelt on the floor looking at a book on a lower shelf. read more

This is one of our first stops when we go to Bethany! We load up on books at this shop and never leave empty handed. Their selection is awesome and you are bound to find something you'll want to read. There's also a $5 hardcover book section, so keep your eyes out for that for a steal! read more

We went here on a rainy day during our vacation with our two and four year old boys. We read books with them in the children's section and perused the store, which was empty save for one other family with a young child. The boys were fully supervised the entire time and did not disturb any of the merchandise. My husband and sons were watching the rain as I walked to the desk to purchase our books, when the clerk critically looked at my children and recommended that we leave and visit the library instead. I was shocked and remarked that our children had been well behaved, quiet, and supervised the entire time during our visit. She agreed, but complained that they were looking out the windows and climbing into the chairs. I replied that they were reading books in the chairs with us, and were watching the rain through the windows, not bothering anyone or any merchandise. She argued that there were cords near the windows and asked us again to leave. I was, and am still, completely shocked. Our children didn't bother any merchandise, disturb any customers, were completely supervised, and we were planning to purchase some books. Instead of asking us to not sit near the window, we were asked to leave. Just horrible customer service. I would not recommend this store to anyone, especially families with children. read more

Oh how I would love to give them 5 stars. Small book stores are some of my favorite places, and I usually don't mind overpaying for something if I'm helping a local business. However, I've been supporting this store since it opened and I will no longer. Their customer service is dreadful. My parents(who are fulltime residents and longtime supporters of BB Books) have had one bad experience after another as of late. My father bought a book for my mother, unbeknownst to him, she had already bought it (both from Bethany Beach Books). When he realized this, he brought the book back. Not only would they not issue a refund(fine, whatever it's $20 who cares) but they wouldn't even offer store credit citing some antiquated policy. When my father mentioned that they always shop there, the response was, "well then you should have known better." Pretty disgusting customer interaction in my opinion. Nobody goes to the beach without a book, nobody needs to actually shop there when you can download a book in seconds or order it in a day . Obviously their aesthetic is that of a small town book store, but their mentality is just the opposite. read more
