    Osmoses squid so yummy
    Paige D.

Incredible service at Betti Jai the other night! We went in around 8pm to see if we could get a table at 9:15pm that night. The servers and managers were very helpful and got us a table. When we came at 9:15pm we were immediately shown our private table downstairs! This felt much more private and we were right next to the beautiful kitchen. To note that we told them we only wanted to order off of the menu (which is always the best stuff!!) What we got-- everything was really great, the Squid Osmoses, Warm Goat Cheese Salad (a good size), Scrambled Cracked Eggs with Ham and Cheese over Potatoes (basically French Fries with everything yummy on it and you eat it with a fork and knife), and the Garlic Prawns, all delicious! Service was great, the woman server we had was higher up at the restaurant and she was great with suggesting dishes and explaining the preparations. The whole waitstaff consistently kept an eye on us and brought us clean dishes and silverware after every dish! Would recommend to anyone coming to visit, but remember to order off of the menu!

Some of the best pinxtos in San Sebastián, here (and that is really saying something). A HUGE/somewhat staggering selection of beautiful food across the bar. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive in a way that is rare across pinxtos joints...though you do pay for that pleasure as this place is a bit pricy among its counterparts. Here, you can just grab whatever you want from the bar and can trust that the waitstaff will see your selections and mark them down on their ipads. It makes for a generally really relaxed dining experience, I only marked down a star for their somewhat overpriced-ness. We came here twice or three times over the course of a food-packed week in the Basque country. We enjoyed many seafood bites from the bar--particularly their way of serving up a tin of cured seafood prepared with extra garlic and spices.YUM. I agree with other reviewers who say that the best bite on the menu isn't nearly clear enough. The Foie Beti Jai is AMAZING and worth ordering two of, right off the bat. This constantly crowded spot definitely deserves its place on a San Sebastián pinxtos hop. :)

Do not let your hanger take over and grab the closest pintxo off the bar... make a reservation & enjoy an amazing meal downstairs! The service is great & extremely helpful if you're looking for suggestions.

One our many pintxo stops. Beti Jai is good, but not excellent. Their outstanding dish is not displayed. We mumbled something about fois gras and between our broken Spanish/Basque-tongue and their English, we were able to special order the fatty duck liver. We all cried out in shock when the food came. Each fois gras pintxo was literally half the size of our palms (small hands, but nonetheless...) for 3.8 euro each. They were nicely grilled, garnished with some caramelized fruit and onions and buttered crostini....just EXCELLENT. You can't get this in NY for the price. Simply amazing.

This is a very contemporary place. Nice selection, with an emphasis on seafood dishes. The food is looks very crisp and cleanly executed. Very nice attention to detail. Food was good. Prices were higher than some of the neighboring bars.

We ate at the restaurant downstairs. I was a bit hesitant to book from reviews but glad we took a chance - this place is amazing. In one meal beti jai took my superlatives for best oyster ever eaten, best foie gras ever eaten, and best beef carpaccio ever eaten. The service was lovely - the room is nice. The wine list needs a lot of help - hardly anything to pick - one still and one sparking rosé. But we loved it.

We started our pintxos (pinchos) tour of San Sebastián here. They have an immaculately well presented spread here. Everything looked beautiful... and tasted amazing as well. Stop in here to have your mind blown one tiny bite at a time!

I hear it's pricier than some pintxos places but to be able to sit down and fit a baby carriage in there, it's worth it for these parents.

Great if you have a little one with you because it's not cramped. There's also a spacious downstairs with an elevator if you have a stroller. There's a side dining room too that you can't see from the entrance. Tapas is plentiful and varied. Jamon con Brie and quince was excellent (favorite). Drinks came very quickly. Staff was amazing with our daughter! Entertained her when she started to melt down. I asked one waitress to come home with us. Very sweet staff. At one point, she just picked her up, took her to the bar and introduced her to the rest of the staff. So adorable! Also, their tables are perfect for attaching our Inglesina high chair so she felt right at home there.

It's like a high end food festival out there, and you just bar hop from place to place eating all these wonderful Pintxos and drinking cold glasses of Txakoli - a refreshing lightly carbonated wine. Everything in Basque Country is local and they have it all. Atari Gastroteka was our first stop, and we showed up right when they opened for the first Pintxos of the day. We focused on the cold Pintxos at the counter, just pointed at whatever looked good and ate it. Some of my favorites were... The marinated red Piquillo Pepper stuffed with tuna salad on a baguette. Smoked Mackerel on tomato bread Smoked Salmon with shrimp, egg, tomato, cream cheese on a raisin walnut toast. Topped with pickled veggie relish. Man this hit every flavor profile perfectly. We needed a 2nd one of those when I went back for Round 2. Jamon with Brie, honey, on dark walnut bread. I'm pretty sure they quickly hit this with a blowtorch to get the honey to caramelize on the Brie and also scorching the bread slightly. I could keep going on....but whatever bites you get here will be fantastic. Best to go with people who enjoy sharing bites, so you can try many different things so you don't get full.

Watching the square come alive in the evening while dining beneath the illuminated basilica made for a memorable experience. We ordered several pintxos to share, and every dish was excellent. The standout was the Carrillera (slow-braised beef cheek with mashed potatoes), which was incredibly tender, rich, and comforting. The Platillo de Bonito with tuna, anchovies, green peppers, and olives was fresh and full of classic Basque flavors. The Panceta (pork belly) was another highlight, perfectly crisp on the outside and meltingly tender inside. We also loved the creamy Croqueta de Jamón Ibérico, and the Bacalao Confitado con Pil Pil de Piquillos was beautifully cooked, with delicate cod and a silky piquillo pepper pil pil sauce. We couldn't resist trying the Pintxo Especial as well, and it was a great addition to the meal. The staff were warm and accommodating, helping us get a table outside and making us feel welcome throughout the evening. Inside, the restaurant has a lively, authentic Basque atmosphere, but the outdoor seating overlooking one of San Sebastián's most iconic churches makes the experience even more special. If you're looking for traditional Basque pintxos in a fantastic location, Atari is an easy recommendation. We'd happily come back on our next visit.

We actually stopped by the day before, but it was already closed, so we made sure to come back the following evening. It was definitely worth it. Unlike many pintxos bars where the food is already displayed on the counter, everything here is cooked to order. The place is small, lively, and always packed, with people spilling out onto the narrow streets of the Old Town while waiting for their dishes. It has that energetic atmosphere that makes San Sebastián's food scene so much fun. We ordered the dishes the bar is best known for, starting with the Carrillera de Ternera (beef cheek). It was unbelievably tender, rich, and practically melted with every bite. We also tried the famous Idiazabal "risotto," which isn't actually risotto but creamy orzo pasta cooked with smoked Idiazabal cheese. It was comforting, creamy, and completely different from anything we'd had before. One surprise of the evening was the tomato salad. It sounds simple, but the tomatoes were incredibly sweet and juicy, finished with excellent olive oil and flaky sea salt. Sometimes the simplest dishes leave the biggest impression. I noticed almost every table ordering the Pork Rib "Kebab," one of the restaurant's signature dishes, so that's definitely on my list for next time. If you're planning a pintxos crawl through San Sebastián's Old Town, Borda Berri deserves a stop. Come early if you can, expect to stand, order a few of the house specialties, and enjoy the lively atmosphere. This was the best charcuterie we had while in Spain. 4 amazing meats, definitely start your meal with this. Jamon Iberico de Bellota - stole the show, due to eating nothing but acorns, has such a nutty taste to it. But loved the other 3 as well. Multiple people are slicing different cheesecakes to order, and one was fairly set, and the other was pretty liquid in the middle. I will say, I saw a lot of the runnier slices of cheesecake getting thrown out by customers, so I wasn't the only one that preferred the center a little more set. If you're expecting a dense New York-style cheesecake, this is completely different. It's incredibly creamy and custard-like in the center, with a beautifully caramelized top that adds just the right amount of depth. It's rich without feeling heavy, and somehow disappears from your plate much faster than you'd expect. I also loved that La Viña still feels like a traditional neighborhood bar rather than a tourist attraction. Locals stop in for pintxos and wine, while visitors from all over the world come for a slice of cheesecake. The mix gives the place a lively, authentic atmosphere that's part of the experience. I found Casa Urola lively and busy, but not claustrophobic the way some of the other famous spots in Old Town can be, which was a HUGE plus.
