five stars is no exaggeration here. I am self-employed with pre-existing conditions and had basically despaired about ever paying less than an arm and a leg for insurance. Not sure what happened, I thought I had already written a review for Bett but I guess not. I just got a new job and had to either deal with Cobra (smh no) or pay for an individual plan while I wait for my probation to be over and my benefits kick in. As always I called Bett, actually I emailed her on a Saturday and by Sunday afternoon I had her response and the options I needed. I don't want to make this a super long review, bottom line is I've gone through Bett to get health ins 3 separate times while in between jobs, got GREAT life ins coverage at an affordable rate, and set up a long term care policy through her as well. I trust that when she recommends a company/policy/plan it's bc it matches my needs and what I'm looking for, not what's best for her. I give her 5 stars!! read more

Bett Martinez is the amazing insurance broker who helped my 51-year-old self-employed partner get a great and affordable health insurance plan after he had been declined for coverage twice. She also helped me decide whether I should apply for a new plan or stick with the coverage I have through COBRA. She impressed me from the outset by picking up the phone herself and spending 45 minutes with me on the phone the very first time I called. From there, she had several conversations with underwriters at various insurers to help determine what we needed to do to be approved for insurance, all the while keeping in touch with us to answer our many questions. When the application that we eventually submitted with Bett's help was initially declined, she was able to make a call to the insurance company to question their decision and determined that they had LOST a vital page of the application. She faxed that page to them immediately, and within 24 hours they had reversed their decision. Had she not been involved, we would have had no idea who to call, what had gone wrong, or how to resolve it, and we would have probably started the whole grueling application process over again--or given up in despair. I highly recommend using a broker if you are trying to navigate the world of individual health insurance on your own. They earn a commission from the insurance company and their services are FREE to you--so there is really no reason not to go that route. I thought I could it do myself but having worked with Bett I realize that there is just too much to know and much of it is not made clear to consumers. She has the experience and knowledge to help you choose a plan and then to help you get the coverage you need. Bett Martinez was a godsend in helping me navigate the tortuous process of finding a family health insurance plan. Not only is she up on all of the latest health insurance changes, she is also incredibly patient in listening to your needs and concerns and working to find an affordable solution. It's like if your mom's best friend was a health insurance insider. You really feel like she cares deeply about making sure that you find the best plan possible and she always responds immediately to phone calls and emails and keeps you up to date on what's going on with your application. She also took the time to check with the company to try to ensure that they would be amenable to my application before I even submitted it. I had never used an agent before, but after having some less than helpful conversations with in-house brokers at a few health insurance agencies, I definitely needed a little impartial guidance (and the feeling of having someone in my corner.) The kicker, as someone else mentioned, was that her service is absolutely free- she is paid by the health insurance agencies themselves. My husband and I are self-employed musicians, and she helped us set up our insurance under the name of our business, cutting our fees almost completely in half. 2 years ago, I lost my coverage for my then 15 year old daughter, who had dislocated her shoulder playing volleyball the year before. I tried to purchase insurance for her, at any price, but because of the shoulder, was completely unsuccessful. In a complete panic, I contacted Bett, who responded quickly and managed to, in a timely manner, get a policy for her that met our needs. It was a little expensive, but true to her word, a year later, she negotiated a tier reconsideration with the insurance company, which left us with a comprehensive, affordable policy. My daughter is now going off to college in another state, and Bett again helped me, by navigating their cumbersome and impossibly bureacratic process, enabling me to keep my policy and not risk being in another situation with a child with "pre-existing conditions." A previous reviewer here used the word "godsend" in a write-up of Bett Martinez/Insurance Solutions Inc. That is absolutely one right way of describing Bett. I would also add the word "miracle worker." When it comes to health insurance coverage, I thought I was uninsurable due to pre-existing conditions (who knew occasional "sleeplessness" was considered a pre-existing condition?). No insurer would touch me. I won't go into detail about all of my ordeals over the years seeking coverage as a self-employed person, but suffice it to say that it's been an absolute nightmare. I've faced denial after denial of coverage by health insurers. A year ago I finally gained a policy (albeit excessively expensive) that an insurer was legally required to offer me (through so-called "guaranteed issue") after my COBRA expired from an old job. That insurer raised my premiums 26.4% earlier this year. On a friend's referral I contacted Bett. I wasn't optimistic that anyone could help, but Bett succeeded in not only finding a far more affordable individual plan but also an insurer that was willing to offer me any coverage at all. Moreover, when that insurer made an error on its premium quote during the application process and then attempted to charge me a higher rate, Bett convinced the company to honor its original lower rate quote. Bett works very, very hard on behalf of her clients. I can't say enough good things about her. She's simply wonderful. read more
