My favorite episodes generally involved the "Holiday Hell Feast" where they'd invite the midget Klan over with the midget Black Panthers and let them sort it out over mashed potatoes and gravy. The episodes where someone reveals themselves to be a transgender were always good television. Inevitably, people got their hair pulled or a chair thrown. I never made it to the taping, unfortunately. But it was always my favorite thing to watch on TV when I got to stay home sick from school. I heard they moved the taping to Connecticut. I guess there's better freakazoids out there to put on the show. But it wasn't tacky television. There was always the closing thought, where Jerry poignantly summarizes what we've learned and how we can all make the world a better place.

My favorite thing that Chicago Public Media puts out is the Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me radio show. They usually broadcast from the Chase Theater in Chicago, but have been doing it from home for the past several months. Their opinions on the news tends to lean a bit to the left, so their programming appropriately hangs out on the left side of the dial. I always switch them off when they're on one of their frequent pledge drives, banging pots for money. I've heard these guys get paid quite well. But if you're listening, and not dropping some cash in to their virtual tin cup, you might as well be stealing. Jeesh- they lay it on thick. They do lots of great info on local issues, news, and topics. Tune in, turn on! They're not amused if you call 'em up and ask 'em to play some Skynyrd.

Upon entering NBC tower we were checked in and all by security with a metal detector all of our bags/belongings. Please remember to pack light so the line can move quicker. You can see all the shows posters they taped from the news, entertainment, Steve Harvey, and Judge Mathis. After security check-in we went up the elevator to the waiting area where we received donuts and water. They call out your name in the order it was received and you form a single file line as you enter the studio. The set was beautiful all jazzed up (shades of purple) for mothers day week. The taping took a while to start like an hr or two to behind so we were watching old episodes of his show which were funny. I can tell you he looks better in person. Be prepared to move, dance, wiggle to get the energy flowing prior to taping. While taping he is so funny and energetic!! His staff was fun, lively, and enthusiastic. Sad to say you will be missed, this is his last season in Chicago but good luck Steve Harvey and crew onto bigger and better things!

Most dive bars have a fair amount of seed and are in need of some repair, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not this place, as the spotless tile floor was completely intact, all the swivel barstools (each branded "Richard's Bar" across the back) still swiveled, and the tin ceiling stunning. It's coming up on a hundred years, but the entire joint has been as lovingly cared for as it is cleaned daily. The place has a slight smell of cigarettes. When I mentioned to Joe the bartender, that "I didn't think you could still legally smoke in a bar in this country." He replied "You can't, but people do," as he placed an ashtray next to my beer. All that, and Norm Wendt's brother-in-law bought me a bottle of Old Style because it was his birthday, which was drunk while listening to Steve Lawrence on the jukebox. This is mainly a classic rock station, and the DJs are professional and knowledgeable about the music, they seem to really know their stuff. They play some deep tracks that you don't hear on other classic rock stations, and have some good commentary. Since it's classic rock, I guess I don't hear too many new songs. That's the trouble with classic rock. I've at least heard of nearly every artist on here. Some of the things that they consider classic rock make me feel old. I like the fact that they don't have very many commercials on here, especially compared to other stations.
