Worst closed captioning in broadcast by far. Injecting names of hosts or anchors (Ex: Ji Suk Yi) or other added words that have NOTHING to do with context is beyond ridiculous and its constant. My poor hearing challenged husband has had enough... add Konrads "might" or "could" weather forecasts are exceptionally vague if not totally inaccurate and like others have mentioned leave actual Chicago hoods like lakefront out completely. I think it's appalling that a Chicago station doesn't always give Chicago weather! Thankfully, Paul always does but he's alone on that. Most only give the 2 airports which does us at the lakefront nothing! Daley screwed us royally by destroying Meigs Field. The equipment is still there but ignored. Even the Latin School has is a possibility but do you use them? Extremely rare. I swear at the tv and change the channel every time you screw us. Shame on you! read more

I used to love channel 9 my favorite news channel, but I cant watch it it makes me sick the nightly new all they do is bash trump they push there political views all night long bash trump non stop I want the new not a bunch of political is. Enjoyed wgn for Many years. Stopped watching when they started broadcasting LIV GOLF.

I went to the studio in April 2019 to watch a taping of Man of the People. I had a blast watching the show, and I would love to visit again. I can say that the waiting area and the washrooms can use updates. The vending machines looked old and outdated. The bathrooms only had 3 small stalls in it, and the rooms were tiny, despite the long line waiting to get in! They were rundown looking and unpleasant as well. Parking was free in the lot and it was ample. When you pull up at the gate, press the button and let them know your there to view the show. Have fun! read more

This review for: WGN MORNING NEWS So, what do you review when you are "sheltered-at-home" thanks to Covid-19??  Some of the things you do at home - - like watching the "WGN Morning News"! I have been a fan of this Morning News Crew for at least 20 years.  They are so down-to-earth, relatable and FUN!  They spare me some the drama that I would have to endure from other news programs.  They are so very refreshing!! Robin Baumgarten (co-anchor) is the BEST!!  She's so practical and humorous.  And she even seems to get prettier as time goes on.  My sister and I get a charge every time Robin talks about her couch.  Years ago, I won 4 tickets to the showing of an American Girl (doll) movie. No easy feat to win.since I had to be "caller number whatever".  I also had to borrow a kid to qualify.  Luckily, my cousin was able to make it and one of her daughter's friends was my "daughter  for this event.  I couldn't really sit thru that movie, but, hey, at least I got to meet Robin... oh, and Val Warner also - - but she's gone on to another show. I love Larry Potash (co-anchor) and Paul Konrad (weather).  Larry can seem serious but he has a cool sense of humor.  It is always fun when Larry and Paul talk about Larry's cat, Chantal.  Paul is a real hoot - - I get a charge when he talks about Oprah or Barbra Streisand.  I even got used to Ana Belavel ("Around Town") and Pat Tomasulo (sports)  I thought Pat was a bit of a creep at first, but he turned out to be an okay guy.  I liked his show "Man of the People". A lighthearted show till today. Pat Tomasulo doing a "joke" interview about Robin's basketball days. The expressions on her friends face and mothers face were not funny ..did you notice...with his poke fun at Robin. That should have been the 1st clue. Very few stories are actually revelant except the shooting stories. The reporter with the Irish accent.. Yikes.. No girls born in the USA that could do the job? Get rid of Health Watch.. Deanna is like the Angel of Death.. Wait more study is needed. Her definite source the University of Ontario. A real first class school I'm sure. That Segment alone abated purple with stories that haven't been proved yet.. Unless 30 people in a study Qualifies. No wonder Dish dumped you... I met, had an in-depth conversation with, and bear hugged (yes, I said bear... it wasn't just any plain ole hug) Tom Skilling. Ya. I know. Don't be J... oh, okay. Be Jelly. It was awesome. First things first, Big ups to Diane for taking time out of her busy news filled day to give us a behind the scenes tour of all things WGN Chi-Tizzle. Much like Shaquille O'neal, you granted all my wishes that day- Shazam! Maybe that's a good nickname, no? Diane Shazam? Eh, eh? Secondly, I got to watch a live segment being taped with Allison Payne, got to see where the infamous Bozo show was filmed... and now the lottery balls are drawn, I got to shake my smite filled fist at a card board cut out of Paul Konrad (aka Smuggy McSmuggerson), got to watch and smell a delicious cooking segment, saw a few autographed walls with the John Hancocks of the likes of Naughty by Nature and Dave Coulier, and most importantly, I got to become the bona fide BFF of Tom mfing Skilling. Sooo... what did Tom and I do together? Well, besides frolic hand in hand through a field of lavender, we were first introduced and I can tell you that right off the bat, there was a connection. Something cosmic, I think. Then he chatted while he single handedly prepped himself for the midday weather, did the live weather forecast, then immediately came over to "shoot the breeze" (yep, that was a weather joke) with us. He showed us some of his weather tools and charts and I asked a few hard hitting questions regarding Russia's ability to control the weather (which he totally had the answer to, AND he didn't skimp on the details). Then we took a few groups shots with him where I pretty much demanded to be next to Tom (or ELSE!), then he gave me (and me alone) an individual photo with him in which we are in an endearing BFF embrace. After which, I told him I was going to label the pic "Best Friends Forever" on my facebook and he was totally fine with it. So there you have it, you are reading the review of Tom Skillings BFF... six degrees of Kevin Bacon can totally suck it, because baby, you're now only one degree away from Skilling. We then ended our meeting with a gentleman's handshake and I congratulated him on the success of his snuggie... and added in that if there were more Skilling products, a toaster for instance, I'd totally buy it... even though he'd probably give me one for free, being that we're BFFs and all... facebook friendship request still pending. read more

This review is solely for Tom Skilling. I simply love Tom, I do. I don't mind the charts and the isobars and the graphs, I think they're perfect. He wants to teach you something, not just tell you if it's going to rain. He wants to show you how he knows it's going to rain so that you too, might be able to predict it one day while surfing the NOAA site. He's almost always accurate within a few degrees and when he gets surprised by a stubborn ridge of high pressure, he'll admit it. He's one of my favorite things about my favorite city. read more

I am disappointed with WGN TV, as they have decided to cancel Chicago's Best, and they are expending GN Sports to air 7 nights a week at 10:30. Do we really need this 7 nights a week as they are expending it to weekends. Chicago's Best had an 11 year run and in a couple of more weeks it will be nor more, as GN Sports, first weekend is August 13th and 14th, which puts the final airing of Chicago's Best on WGN TV on August 8th. Can another tv station pick up Chicago's Best to air, WLS airs an entire hour of news on Sundays, so you can't see come cut it a half hour short if they keep it on at 10:30. And this does take the pressure me of having to watch new episode when it airs on tv. And from what I had seen on Facebook, that Chicago's Best was starting to get back to where they were filming episodes in restaurants rather than virtually, where either Elliot or Marley would be at their homes, talking virtually do what the owner of a restaurant that they are featuring on that show. At least it is not another half hour of news, and this will put Backstory with Larry Potash soon as what the only show that they locally produce. read more

5 years ago I moved to Chicago and I didn't know anyone. So of course there were certain things that I just had to choose. You know like Cubs or Sox. (I chose the Cubbies by the way) :-) Anyway, every morning I would check out a new station. So one Friday morning (I will never EVER forget this) I was watching WGN. Robin was interviewing this chef who was barbecuing outside. So he's preparing the steak and he puts on the grill. Then Robin turns to him and says (are you ready?) So, do you beat your meat? Watched Bozo,Gar and Ray last night. I always mean to watch it ,but never have a chance,due to Christmas obligations. This was a wonderful stroll down Memory Lane for hubby and I. We both grew up watching Ray Rayner,Garfield Goose and Bozo's Circus in our childhood. We also have very fond memories of Suzy Snowflake, Hardrock,Coco and Joe and Frosty The Snowman. I like people who explain things to me without pretension- there isn't enough of that in the world... making sense of the schizophrenic weather of our Windy City? Even Better! I try to dress weather-appropriate and need to know what shoes to wear today- Ruin my Manolos? Perish the thought! I used to watch the Bozo Show (Grand Prize Game! I practiced my underhand throw) as a kid before school, all the while reassuring my little self "One day, one day I'm gonna grow up, dress like Barbie and move to Chicago!" I missed the Bozo show, but I'm not bitter or anything... I still watch WGN in the morning. I don't mind the giggly entertainment bits. I hate the The Tea Party worship and patronizing religion promoted on ABC and Fox as journalism. I stopped listening to NPR because every other report (over and over and over again) was on the nutjob Tea Party... no pledge drive donation for you! I want to know what is going on now down the street. I want to know what my elected officials are doing... I want to know what to wear to work today! I don't need to have rhetoric shoved down my throat. Ew. If I have to see a few images cut and pasted on a low-rent word program, so what? I still get conversation fodder for the day watching WGN whilst guzzling caffeinated beverage of choice, get all mooney over the weather report, watch Chicago traffic reports, score a few silly laughs. Well, probably not so much anymore, with all of the junk programming on this channel now. The days of Jack, Lou, Vince, Bozo, Ray, Frazier and Merri Dee are long gone. As for the Channel 9 news at ten p.m., it's probably the most vanilla and boring of the five local TV news broadcasts. I'd just as soon watch Channel 32 at nine. One of the few reasons left to watch Channel 9 is for Skilling, who has become a legend in this town. (I'll also give a shout out to my home boy - The Weatherman.). The only other reasons to watch Channel 9 anymore are for the few Cubs games they manage to show and the morning show, which is the best local morning show on TV. I have recently called WGN to send out an invitation, and the person l talked to that didn't even provide a name... hung up the phone on me while l was mid sentence. I had several questions, l asked my first and she answered quickly and l didn't have time to explain anything. This lady was speaking in a very rude manner. I had more questions to ask and the lady cut me off and hung up after answering the first question. I said "thank you, also.." and she hung up the phone. Terrible customer service. I will be calling another news station. This call lasted no more than 10 seconds. Terrible! read more

With the basic cable from Comcast, you can get the Chicago based television network in San Francisco. Matt is not from Chicago, but enjoys the network's news. Beside the top national news and major developing stories, they also show stories from their beloved local city. A different twist in news from another city's viewpoint is shown. The Chicago Cubs plays a large majority of their home baseball games in the daytime and would show them on the network at 11am. With Matt's unusual work schedule, he hasn't followed much of his San Francisco Giants in the evening, but with live baseball in the midday is all he can settle. Also showing from WGN, are sitcom and drama reruns. Matt has started to watch shows like the first season of Jack Bauer's "24", Da Vinci's Quest, and believe it or not Lizzie McGuire. Yes Hillary Duff is not the friendliest actress in the entertainment business, but Matt thinks she is gifted and talented. Matt is looking forward for the new shows in the Fall. Among the newest shows from the network is "The Dave Chappelle Show." read more

Thank goodness for morning news that doesn't take itself seriously. Really, the last thing I want to hear about when I wake up and am gearing up for a "great!" day is depressing news. I want the weather - quickly - and I want to see Paul playing with a comically large pair of scissors. I want to see the spoofs of the other local network's commercials. And, dammit, I need to hear Larry rib Robin on her alcoholic tendencies. The journalism major in me is rational and realizes this isn't a groundbreaking news outlet.
