Cute place with furnishings from the '40's through the 60's mostly. Lots of space & a decent Tuesday afternoon crowd. I was wanting a meal but I only saw sandwiches & salads after 10:30a. No mashed potatoes, country fried steak, or any other plate meals. I got the Philly (it's not a Philly Cheesesteak) & it was good but had garlic butter brushed on the outside which makes it messy to handle & you have to wipe your hands every time before using silverware or taking a sip of water. Maybe just put the garlic butter on the inside. A large iced tea is nearly $6... I dont think i've ever seen iced tea in small, medium, & large. Iced tea should come in one size, free refills, & no more than $2. I wanted tea but just got a water instead. The potato salad was okay. Oh, and keep a menu on the table so you can compare the listed prices with your bill. It felt like we were charged an extra $1 for each of our sandwiches but maybe not. read more

Trying way too hard! Adding butter to sandwiches and over a Philly, no please! It would be better with just the delicious breads, meats, and cheeses. Unless, you're trying to hide those?! Hmm. Less is more with, what I could tasted not ladeled with butter. Otherwise, the dining area is beautiful and so inviting. BUT I'd rather be at a "hole in the wall" with really good food. If you get both; FANTASTIC! You have a ways to go. Slow service and none of the people working their were looking around besides there own tables to see if customers are doing ok. This restaurant is by far a secret gem in the Midwest! The place, the food, the service was first class all the way!! The environment gives you that Cracker Barrel feel but like it was on steroids. Immaculately clean. Very unique, tasteful, and charming. But this is just the looks wait till the food comes out of the kitchen not one shortcut is ever taken the fresh baked buns on our sandwiches or to die for and the unique side dishes were incredibly delicious all the way down to the two different blended tea refresher. I am a very very picky person and I would give this restaurant five stars across the board definitely worth the drive to Paris, Illinois.!!! The bakery and candy section was just exquisite! What a unique and wonderful experience these owners really know what they're doing. We will definitely be going back.! read more

This restaurant was recommended to me while I was in the area and I must say, Betty Jane's did not disappoint. I got the hot ham, cheese, and avocado sandwich on a bagel. The bagel was so soft and they did not skimp on the cheese. I also got the turtle cheesecake, which was amazing. It was huge and could've been split between two people. As for the workers, they were so kind and helpful when working with customers. You can sit down to eat or get carry out, so while I waited for my food, I was able to watch everything. It's an adorable country building with great people. I only waited about 5-7 minutes for my food so they were quick! They do accept debit cards, but there's a 4% charge, so I recommend having cash when you come here! read more

Cute place - waitress was friendly. No clue if there really is a Betty Jane, but whoever told Betty Jane should open a restaurant must be scared to tell her the truth. A good sign of a good restaurant is the type of cheese they use. They seem to love American cheese here. read more

We stopped randomly traveling through Paris today and were so impressed. Great ambiance and food that melts in your mouth. We were there for breakfast but went home with a whole bag of baked goods. Will definitely be back to check out the shop and lunch! read more

Had lunch with my mom and daughter. We all enjoyed the "lite" combo with 1/2 salad, 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 slice of dessert. HOLY COW the portion of dessert was really a whole slice and it was delicious. We sampled the Peanut Butter Pie with a delicious brownie-like bottom. So good and rich, packed it up to go after 3 bites! The S'mores cheesecake and pumpkin roll were equally as divine. We had the side salads with the BBQ Hawaiian chicken wrap (able to split since two of us wanted it) and a roast beef melt. All of the lunch was so fresh tasting and flavorful. I've been here twice and was blown away at the food and service both times!! Amazing salads, sandwiches etc. but the dessert is TO DIE FOR!! it's worth a looong drive for the white almond style wedding cake alone!! But there are dozens of sweets to choose from. No one will leave disappointed. I can't recommend Betty Janes enough. I wish I would've taken a photo of her beautiful array of desserts. read more

We drive about 50,000 miles around the U.S. each year and look for distinctive local restaurants. This is one of those! We rarely give 5 stars unless the quality, service, presentation and decor are remarkable. This hits all those points! Most everything is made from scratch! They are excellent bakers and offer a delicious variety of cookies, cakes and pies! We had their 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 pie with a side salad. Their Deli Sandwich was on their own marvelous multi-grain sliced bread. No Iceberg lettuce on the sandwich! Instead it was a nice mix of spring greens. The peppers and onion spread were an understated but welcome addition to the sandwich. The accompanying side salad was a tasty mix of spring greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, shredded carrots and shredded cheese with our choice of a light raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The pies we had were amazing! It is hard to find great pies! We find that the places that boast of their pies the most are those that usually have the worst pies! We had their Razzleberry-Lemon Custard Pie and their BlackBerry Pie with locally-made vanilla ice cream. In addition to the great food and amazing pies we loved the ambiance! We love it when old buildings are restored and repurposed! This was an old house that has been lovingly restored! The old wood floors gleam and antique tables and chairs fill the rooms. Decorative items are tasteful touches in each room, including the bathrooms! This business has been singled out for local recognition by the chamber of commerce who just awarded it "Business of the Year"! Stop in for breakfast or lunch or just a slice of their delicious pies! read more

It's amazing this place is still open. Paris has a famous $5 grilled cheese sandwich two pieces of bread and one slice of cheese. Really? Not only do you have to repeat the order three times they don't have it right when you pull up to the window to get it. Too bad this place would have been a great place for a restaurant. read more

I planned a 20 day RV trip from the Chicago area down to Louisiana, and South Texas. When planning I'm always on the lookout for unique, off the beaten path, and highly rated and fairly priced restaurants, cool coffee shops, mom and pop bakeries. I read good reviews and loved the back story for Betty Jane's. ( my wife's recently deceased mother's name was Betty Jane). We got up early and drove over 3 hours, the morning of our departure, and we were famished when we arrived. The breakfast menu was limited and although we eat mostly vegetarian, the biscuits and gravy sounded great. Our "waitress" sadly informed us that they were all out, and the owner apologized stating that the b&g had been consumed by a group of 40 or so high school kids that had been there for Bible study (on a Wednesday before school?). Apparently God was smiling down on those saintly students and punishing us for something. Anyway, the only savory item left on the menu was a ham and cheese croissant. We opted for that and a piece each of the pie I had pre-ordered. The pie was good. The ham and "cheese" croissant, disappointing. The "cheese" was either Velveta, or some other cheese food, but not real cheese. If you like pie, try this place out. If you're looking for healthy or something better than Denny's, look elsewhere. read more
