Hard chargers right here!
Bill S.

My brother in law has been talking about Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym for years. "The top body builders from all over train here!" I'm told. I mentioned for Father's Day, lets treat ourselves and work out at the Powerhouse Gym! What's great about this gym, they offer a daily rate. So we all agree to meet Saturday morning at Powerhouse Gym in Syosset. A very nice man greets us at the counter. He takes our information and scans each one of us into the system. We all start talking about "Bev Francis", Powerlifting champion of the 80s who broke more than 40 world Powerlifting records as well as the first woman to bench press over 300lbs. I'm diggin' the spot already! We're racking up the plates and ready to start our work out. A few regular members start talking to us, one guy tells me: There is equipment here from the 1970s! I'm not talking about old, junky stuff. There are certain tried and true weight lifting equipment that will never be out of fashion to use. Now I start looking at the other members. There are quite a few, just insane members that are lifting some serious weight. After working out I notice something I'm taking away from the gym: Old guys. That's right. When I was a kid in Brooklyn, my dads friends thought they were tough like Sonny Coleone. Not these guys. They were a few years older than me, but all in great shape. I watched them working out, just throwing weights around and having a good time. This isn't Planet Fitness where you have folks "resting" after each set. All of the members are a serious bunch of folks with serious goals. It was a pleasure to work out at Bev Francis Powerhouse Gym. I live in Stony Brook, otherwise I'd be here working out on the weekends

Best gym in the world. Any ethnicity or age is highly accepted at this Long Island gym. It has the best variety of equipment and worth to visit even if just once!

This is by far the best gym I've ever stepped foot in. Unparalleled selection of weightlifting equipment and a great environment to workout, but the gym caters to all, from bodybuilders to local regulars. Growing up on Long Island this was my favorite gym; now, well over a decade later, I still try to stop in for a visit when I am on Long Island. Daily / short term pass options are available for non-members, and you will be spared the nonsense and lame sales pitches that at times are the norm with larger gym chains. Stop by and have a great workout.

Lots of good stuff

You walk in and just feel the decades of hardwork that have been put in by men and women of all types. There are photos, posters, and magazine covers all dedicated to Bev & Steve of Powerhouse. It's inspiring and definitely something to see. The set-up is nice and old-school, people are there to work. Great mix of gym-goers. Very positive environment.

I made the plunge and joined Equinox a few weeks ago. After coming here for a few Yelp Events, and…read morebeing that it's close to home, it made my decision an easy one. Although pricey, it's worth it! Let's start off with the amazing customer service I've received. I had the pleasure of meeting Brett. He is a Membership Advisor. He messaged me to see how I was doing and if I had any questions. My very first day as a member he showed me around the the gym from top to bottom, corner to corner. He even offered to take a class with me if I didn't want to take one alone. He is super friendly and funny. He continues to say hello to me BY NAME every time he sees me at the gym. That's amazing that he remembers my name considering how many people he sees and interacts with at the gym every day. Now Christopher (I believe that's his name) works at the shop at the gym where there's clothes, gym bags, and other accessories. When you become a member you get 20% off your first purchase at the shop. So...I took advantage of that! Christopher was patient with me as I looked around the shop. So many choices! Some of their brands run big...so I was happy that I was able to buy a smaller size than I normally would. Christoper helped me pick out some things and even showed me a super comfy sweatshirt. It's a men's sweatshirt...but it's the most comfortable sweatshirt I've ever worn. Comfy and warm! Brian, the manger is also super nice! I had a long conversation with him on my first day at the gym. It was so nice that he took the time out of his day to speak with me. He also greets me by name every time he sees me at the gym. As a new member you get a complimentary Pilates session. I took mine with Jacqueline. The Pilates session is in the studio and it's just you and the trainer. Jacqueline was very patient with me as I've never done Pilates before. She showed me how to use the machines. She also taught me that Pilates isn't just body movements...but it's about your mind as well. Which is very true. We even laughed! Who laughs when working out? That's what I thought. You also get a complimentary personal training session as a new member. I had the pleasure of meeting Tracy. She is wonderful! She understood me and my goals. She was patient and answered my questions. We also laughed a little. Again, who laughs when on an 10% incline and 3.5 speed on a treadmill?? That's what I thought! I felt so welcomed as a new member! Besides the "Welcome" email and "Welcome Packet" I received, I received a hand written welcome card in the mail, and another welcome card in the mail. I can truly tell the Equinox cares about their members. On to the gym... SO many machines for cardio and strength training! I've never had to wait for a machine. One of the things I like about the machines is that they have internet. I've enjoyed watching YouTube videos to get me through my workouts. You can even access Facebook, Google...and a ton of other things. You can sync LoseIt and other apps if you use apps to calorie count or to keep track of your food intake. There's also WiFi at the gym...so you can bring your iPad or other device and watch Netflix as you work out! I am guilty of this! :o) If you aren't sure how to use a strength training machine, don't be scared. During my tour of the gym, Brett mentioned there is always staff on the floor that will show you how to use them! Don't be shy...ask them! Locker rooms... I can't speak for the men's locker room, but the woman's locker room as everything you can think of. Hair dryers, straighteners, razors, tampons, mouth wash, hair gel, shaving cream, shower caps...etc. There's also a filtered water filling station and a digital scale. Everything you can ask for! Now the showers are wonderful. Kiehl's shower products are like a dream. They smell so yummy, and have me feeling refreshed. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and face wash. The showers are nice and hot! AND... eucalyptus towels!!! Smell so nice, especially after a sweaty workout! What are you waiting for?? GO workout at Equinox!

I called very confused and simply looking for clarity and solutions but I was met with utter disrespect from the girl/woman on the other end speaking to me as if I was a child in the wrong, telling me it was my responsibility to stop payments on my father in laws card after he had purchased 10 classes as a gift for me to use - this was never a purchase for a membership! Mind you, I canceled a long time ago and didn't even have an active account or membership. On top of their administrative failures they even tried to charge me for the coming month. Blood suckers

Work out, leave feeling like this is your new happy place! Long version - Please continue reading: First of all, this is my second time trying CrossFit (2018) after being really inspired by one of my girlfriend's facebook story/posts. She's amazing!!! I stayed away from CrossFit because I didn't think it was a good match for me. I decided to give it another shot after speaking to her. Cleanliness: I'm a clean freak. I'm neurotic. I know, I'm crazy but hey! It's the pandemic. This gym is super clean and their bathroom is super clean (yes, I checked and I approve of how clean it is). There are a few lockers in there which I haven't used. I just put my stuff against the wall and wait for the fun class to begin. After the equipments are used, each members wipe it down with Saniwipes (yes, I checked this as well). All the barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, jump rope, rowing machine, bike, etc EVERYTHING is cleaned after use! I love it! Staff: I've only took classes lead by these Coaches: James, Mike, Jesse. This review is based off of them. I always ask questions. Sometimes, questions bother people and they get annoyed. These three coaches are amazing! They're super friendly and was answering all of the questions that I have. They're super friendly and very motivating. Any injuries you may have, please speak to them! They were able to modify certain workouts for me and really paid attention to my form (along with the others). You could see the passion in them when they speak about the workouts. They explain every workout, movement, and form. They go over this before it starts. Class: You will sweat. Your hearts going to pound. HARD! Your heart's going to feel like it's about to pop out of your mouth. Okay, okay..That's IF you're unhealthy like me and it's been years since you've worked out. Everyone works out really hard and are super motivational! You will be sore for the next 3 days! After 3 classes, I felt healthier, had more stamina, was able to shovel snow without a problem (no, really...). I seriously had WAYYYYY more energy than expected and of course, I was in good spirits! Exercise really makes a difference in your mood and I will proudly say Peak180 is now my new happy place! Oh! I need to mention... they have whiteboards! So if you have a lot on your mind like me, grab one. Write down what you need to do. It'll make your life easier when your brain decides to sleep as you tear your muscle fibers. Members: A bunch of amazing people! They're welcoming, friendly, and a bunch of beasts! Watching them work out as I did really kept me going. I didn't want to give up even though my body felt like jello. Parking: There's PLENTY of parking in the back. Work out, grab some coffee at Mongo's afterwards (if they're still open) Location: Enter the lot, drive all the way to the back, make a left and you'll see this wonderful place! For those who have stuck around til the end to read my review, thank you! Peak180 has gained a new loyal member. Thanks, everyone! I'm excited and will be updating this review as time goes by. Just do it. Just stop by and take a class. DO NOT FORGET THAT WATER!!! Before, during, and after so your muscles will thank you.

COACH CHANDO: 1)…read moreOBSERVANT - In the 2 days (90 minutes combined) I had visited the training center, he seemed to know everything about me just by the way I was training with him. Keep in mind that there are other students in the class, but he notices every detail about his students, the breath we take per move/reps (even with masks on), 2) PROFESSIONAL & COMMUNICATIVE - With his keen observation skills, he's quick to correct posture or can tell if we've trained before (I say he's psychic), he also has the ability to tell how we carry our backpacks/or handbags and if they are heavy or not, he will know based on our posture if we are the type who have sedimentary jobs or not and advises on how to autocorrect form. I do value the fact as we work out, he tells us where we should be feeling the burn and why and which part of the body we are working. 3) FRIENDLY & WARM/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS - he doesn't intimidate and he can easily make quick connections to build rapport and trust so as we are working out, he empowers us with confidence we need to push ourselves. He intuitively knows our personal limit as to when we need to be pushed hard and when we need to slow it down. F45 PLAINVIEW 1) I've been to many gyms and worked out with many trainers, but i do enjoy the F45 concept, 45 minutes your in and your out with a sweat. This is a great concept for those individuals who lack discipline in a gym environment. 2) Days are scheduled based on what the functional exercises and which area of the body you will be working (core, upper, lower, cardio, etc). 3) The camaraderie you gain when you attend. I only attended 2 sessions and the members welcomed me with open arms and thumbs up support in a few of the exercises I failed at. We all have a common objective in mind and its just getting through the 45 minutes is where we bond at... then its a great feeling when you see them again the very next day. If i could choose to be a member at F45 Plainview, I definitely would. But i'll need to find another F45 (and a Coach Chando) in PNW area. THANK YOU F45 PLAINVIEW & COACH CHANDO!
