Has a wide variety of comics, hardcovers, trades, games, etc. One of the very few comic stores out there that actually stocks decent statues - not garbage PVC stuff - Sideshow, etc. Decent amount and variety of back issues and a really good variety of new comics and books. I stopped in twice this week while passing through on a trip to NY from NC. The staff was very helpful, the inventory extremely strong and the prices were fair. With enough money I would have bought the entire store. The store was well organized and clean. I will be making special trips to Frederick going forward. read more

Great store not just for comics but also for your gaming fix and maybe a few statues. Seriously one of the largest selection of premium statues I've seen in one store in the area. The store is quite large and has everything you could ask for when it comes to comics, graphic novels, manga, miniatures, trading card games, board games and a great selection of supplies. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. We had a question about one of the rare sealed Pokémon boxes from the base set and the person was extremely helpful in providing information and showing us the box. If you like comics or are just starting they are very friendly and willing to help. The really neat thing is that they offer a subscription service that you can manage online and just come in and pick up your comics. One of the best ways of you are looking to explore new comics or are not sure is to just ask and explain what you like, everyone is really able to provide recommendations and point you in some direction. First time visiting this store, and wow, what great place! Amiable, helpful staff; well-lit; lots of seating (when there's no gaming) for sorting through your potential purchases - and for disinterested spouses. It's a huge store, with everything nicely displayed, an airy atmosphere with no cramped areas. I came mainly for back issues, and there's an exceptional amount of them! Loved the big drawers that most of them are stored in. I was looking for Silver and Bronze goodies, and they had plenty - even a dash of Golden Age. They have a hefty selection of '70s B&W magazines, as well as sci-fi mags from the '90s and later. All reasonably priced, too. Now if only they had a location closer to home (it's an hour drive for me). Le sigh. read more

I usually end up at Beyond Comics to see what kind of new (or new old stock) toys/action figures they have on the pegs or tables. Sometimes I'm hit with some cool treasures and pick them up, but most of the time their inventory is whatever new Marvel Legends Series or DC Multiverse wave is out or trending. ...still, it's cool to see and recommend they expand their vintage toys and collectibles to draw in more folks who may not be into comics. My only gripe seems to be echoed by other Yelpers on here in that the customer service is pretty bad. Depending on who is working, you won't be greeted, asked if you need help, or even addressed at checkout... One other thing: a few months back I purchased some old action figures out of a sale bin or something. The total would have been something like $84 or something like that, so I asked the dude behind the counter if we could just call it $80 since I was buying a lot. He said sure, no problem and we called it an even $80. I tried the same thing another time and a different cashier said no he couldn't do that. I tried to explain that this was done before but he refused. I guess my point here is that folks behind the counter should have consistency making a sale and working with customers. read more

This might be the best comic shop I've ever seen...but I walked out without making a purchase. Shop is huge with high ceilings and is STOCKED with comics, figurines/toys, and gaming items. The huge Hulk statue in the middle of the shop is rather cool. The shops large stock of Board Games is located in the front of the store. Also in the front of the store is the rather extensive selection of new pull comic books. At the counter were various Magic cards and Heroclix, shop had an ok selection of Heroclix. Figurines and toys are located all over the shop with some behind the counter and many on the wall. The shop has one of the most extensive collections I've seen outside of a convention. An excellent stock of Graphic novels was located towards the back of the shop along the wall. Shop had a longbox selection with a mix of new and old books; some were kept in drawers beneath the longboxes. They also carried a selection of completed comic sets near the cheap longboxes. What causes me to not give this a clear five star review was they had some organization issues. It looks like at the time of my visit they just took delivery of a large amount of figurines that were stacked all over the back of the shop. It would have been nice to look at the clearance graphic novels, but the carts were stashed away in a back corner and were not easily accessible. The shop also had a large longbox selection of cheap comics, but with little apparent organization, and the longboxes were stored in a manner that made them hard to search though without pulling the whole box out. The staff was quieter then at most comic shops, I suspect that it was because I arrived during lunch and it took about 10 minutes before someone asked if I was looking for anything. Along with that, the Beyond Comics website needs some serious attention and is out of date. Facebook could also use improvement with more updates and pictures of the shop. Next time I travel though the area I'll be stopping again with my friend who is a bigger comic nerd and I think he will enjoy this shop. This shop should have been a clear five star...but came up short. read more

Definitely a robust selection of comics, board games, and collectible items. The store is quite big, and it's packed with all kinds of stuff. My only real complaint about this place is that it's not very diverse in what it sells. Pretty much the entire store is either Marvel/DC stuff, or Star Wars (given the recent film). Beyond Comics is aptly named as the main feature of the store is stuff other than comics. Great setting, plenty of parking, big well-lit store - definitely a place to kill a lunch hour. The comic selection is what you would expect. Loved the presence of a Jack Kirby section...! Also a respectable selection of ancillary gaming stuff. Expect to pay full retail. Still... a little on the bland side. I don't get that homey welcome vibe when I walk in this store. Sometimes feels more like a museum or someone else's collection and I'm getting a chance to walk through and observe. Not sure what the cure is, but I wish it was a little less sterile. read more

Untrustworthy and unreliable. First time I ever shopped here, pre-ordered 2 pre-release boxes and they said they will definitely reserve each promo card per box. However, when picking up the 2 boxes and 2 "reserved" promo cards, they said they oversold the boxes under the promo and didn't give me a promo card. I live 45 minutes away, I only bought the boxes from here because I saw the prices were a little lower than shops closer to me - the bait and switch worked. Unlikely, but maybe they sold the 15$ promo card separately? Or, maybe they want me to return one box so that they can sell it at the higher, non-promo price? Maybe both? I'd at least recommend compensating me for their mistake... read more

I'm an avid comic-book collector and enthusiast who has been collecting for thirty years. Huge Comic-Book store...one of the biggest I've ever seen with an extensive selection. Life-size Incredible Hulk statue which was pretty awesome to look at. However... The one employee who was working the night I went in did not ask me even once to help me look for anything. He just sat behind the desk on a computer without saying a word to any of the customers in the store. Didn't even look up at me one time. Back-Issue boxes were very disorganized in my opinion. I couldn't make any sense of it. Not alphabetical or even by publisher. And again, the employee offered no help whatsoever while I was standing near the boxes. Perhaps, I could offer my administrative skills to organize them. I walked out of there without purchasing anything. Mostly because of the employee not even acknowledging me. I may try again at a different time since their selection was one of the largest I've ever seen. read more

We visit this comic store whenever we're in Frederick. I think their selection is pretty cool. No major complaints.

To keep this review short without going into long explanations. I'll simply put your experience at this place will depend a lot on who is working that day. The two older gentlemen I've seen here are very friendly/helpful and make this place great. I love this place! The location isn't great, but it's a big store with a great selection. The comic book selection is great, and they have a lot of collectables. I have been a customer of Beyond comics since the late 90s and and still never been to a comics store with a more friendly group of owners and employees. I was in Fredrick and decided to drop by the local comic shops. Beyond definitely had a wide selection and I would have possibly bought something if anyone had paid attention to either my girlfriend or myself. We walked in and the clerk has his back to us. They were talking about a variety of things and I was happy I did not have a kid with me as hard drugs were being discussed. We were looking around for approximately 10 minutes. Three people were behind the counter and a card tournament was going on and no one took any initiative to inquire if we needed help. We left on a discussion of Wilfred Brimley's merits as an actor going on in the background. I am glad that Wilfred Brimley being in Hard Target is more important than making a sale. read more
