The most eclectic, retro type thrift store I have been to and I am in LOVE. It is like print heaven in there - girly florals, beachy fish prints, geometric prints. Love how large the selection is. I would stick to the sale selection as some things are quite pricey (40 pounds for a mini skirt, 20 pounds for a homemade tie dye crop top). Store is very organized and things are very clean. Most definitely recommend.

Beyond Retro is a vintage lovers paradise. A mammoth space, stocked wall-to-wall with every vintage item one could hope for: bags, hats, shoes, jackets, jumpsuits, belts, literally, ANYTHING. And very well-planned - everything is sectioned into groups, so finding that particularly item is a breeze. Gorgeous staff, reasonable pricing (dresses £10-20), and mountains of unique and fabulous items, this place is a real gem. Warning: allow yourself plenty of time, as you can easily spend hours in there. Like a casino, it can be very difficult to get out...

Beyond Retro used to be considered as a hidden gem but it has soon become one of the most renowned places to go for vintage gear in London. Located in trendy Shoreditch, it is always great fun when you come here as there is such an array of wild and wonderful outfits to try on in addition to the more subltle clothing so there is something for everyone if you dig around long enough. The prices are also quite low - around £14 for a jumper and £5 for a cool vintage t-shirt. You do sometimes have to rummage to find the perfect item so this perhaps isn't the place to go if you are needing to make a quick last minute purchase. I found a beautiful black and gold chained handbag for £7 which will be a wardrobe staple for years to come. I always think digging and delving is the fun part as you will never quite know what you will discover. Great for inspiration!

What could possibly be bad about a whole warehouse full of clothes? Beyond Retro is the largest vintage shop I have ever been to. The clothes and the accessories are great. Even if vintage clothes are not your thing, this may just be the perfect place to gear up on costume clothes. Get your 60s, 70s, 80s, or even 90s gear here, perfect for any themed night. They also usually have a good selection of cheap scarfs and hair bows which I love. Due to its size, I find this shop a lot less daunting than the others. No one will follow you with their gaze, leaving you the full freedom of browsing as you desire.

I had to eat these words before they even came out of my mouth. Vintage Heaven does live up to its name by being not only very competitively priced but also stocked to the brim with goodies. They even have bloomers and although some people might draw the line at second hand pants, I say if you're going to do it, do it right. You could actually get an entire outfit here from bloomers to coat and hat for under £100 although you might be put off trying it on in their skanky cupboard of a fitting room. Despite that little inconvenience, I have to say, I am rather impressed and this shop might even make it possible on a rainy day to knock off walking all the way down Cheshire Street to Beyond Retro.

As a gent, this presented a particularly problematic situation as most shops focus on ladies outfits. With time ticking on and having walked up and down Brick Lane looking for outfits in the usual suspects, I stumbled upon Levisons. Unlike its neighbours, Levisons focuses on vintage menswear from throughout the 20th century. Browsing the rails was made easy by handy tags indicating the era of the garment and the owner was also on hand to provide knowledgeable guidance. The clothes are not cheap (£100+ for a suit) but all appeared to be authentic and in good condition. Needless to say, Levisons kitted me out in everything I needed. While not necessarily super stylish, I could at least claim to have been authentic!

Described by its owners as a 'treasure trove of retro and mid-century objets d'art', Vintage Heaven sells everything from 1920s umbrella stands to antique scrabble tiles, fifties tea sets to sorbet coloured cake stands. Undoubtedly Mecca for the vintage obsessed, Vintage Heaven is crammed full of the kind of antiques you wish you could find at car boot sales; the kind of antique homewares that would undoubtedly add a certain je ne sais quoi to most people's invariably Ikea furnished abodes. For those with a little less to spend, Vintage Heaven sells ephemera such as forties postcards complete with the most charming images of models with their dogs. OK, they sound pretty inauspicious but I've covered my - strangely canine centric - fridge in them and at around 50p a pop this is affordable vintage. My next buy from Vintage Heaven will doubtless be one of their beautiful original Art Deco mirrors etched with a floral motif. A word of advice though: if you see something you like, buy it, Vintage Heaven has a refreshingly high turnover of stock and there's nothing worse than missing out on a true one-off.

As the title suggests, this is true oasis for the antiques lovers.
