I visited this studio on my most recent trip to Granger. I was on the hunt for a yoga class, and Beyond Zen had openings for my mom and me to attend for a relaxing Yin Yoga class from 5 pm - 6 pm. We stopped by the studio to register and returned and complete the standard waiver forms. The lady who registered us answered our questions and informed us it was 10 per person, and it included use of their yoga accessories (which included a mat). This particular class was unheated class, and we arrived 10 mins before the start to gather our items and meditate. The room was dimly lit and promotes a relaxing atmosphere. There were a handful of students attending this evening and I would suggest you arrive early to secure a prime spot for your practice. Our instructor for the day was lovely and guided us through a series of poses. Yin Yoga is a more static stretch - where you hold poses for more extended periods for a deeper stretch that one can 'sink' into a pose for a more thorough yoga experience. Everyone in the studio was welcoming. They even have a cute little boutique that sells yoga clothes (Lululemon) and a variety of yoga-related apparel. Overall, it was a very positive experience. I would return on my trips back to the area. read more

Beyond Zen offered a donation only community yoga class this morning. If you are new or just coming back to yoga, this is the class you need to look for. These instructors offer simple moves that every skill level can accomplish. They also offer alternative poses to get you to more advanced levels, once comfortable. Beyond Zen is a very nice and clean studio. They have everything you need to take place in the classes. However, most students did bring their own mats. In the other yoga classes I have taken, you could rent mats for a small fee. This is not required at Beyond. A nice touch. Rebecca was this mornings instructor. I visited this nice studio in Northern Indiana during my holiday on Thanksgiving Weekend. What worked about the facility is that the space is beautiful, the boutique had a great selection of products and the studio offered extras such as an assortment of props and scented towels. The teacher was pleasant and really tried to give a good class. What didn't work was there was no sense of community when I walked through the door, while waiting to start class or immediately following class. In fact, when I went to look for the teacher after class, she disappeared. In Mindbody, the class was described as heated vinyasa yet it was taught as a hatha class. The teacher had her eyes closed almost the entire time and taught from her mat. As a result, the teachers didn't provide impactful verbal cues. The teacher spoke in abstractions and concepts, constantly filling the space with her voice which led to an absence of flow. The unclear intention and disjointed sequence was disempowering for me. When the teacher "messed up her sequence", she chuckled and it was her most authentic moment of the entire class. I would have loved to see more of that! My overall experience from the studio was that of disempowerment. read more

I've only gone here for yoga and I find it delightful. I have nothing but good things to say about the owner, the instructors, the customer service, and the boutique. so happy i dont have to go to the city for lululemon clothing, and that i dont have to go to other studio in town that costs more but doesnt provide nearly as good of service and ambience. Wish there were showers and towel service as long as the prices dont go up. There also aren't any advanced yoga classes, but thats more of an issue with this area, not exclusively with this studio. read more

When I first arrived I loved the calming environment but I was a little nervous. It was my first time doing yoga and I am not the smallest lady. The class was hot yoga. It was intense, fast paced, and difficult. Not a good idea for a beginner, but I tried to get through it. When the class was over I spoke with the instructor and a few classmates and they were just sooo very helpful and kind. It's recommend this studio to anyone! I'll definitely be back! read more

I have been going to Beyond Zen for about 9 months and have really enjoyed the overall experience. The classes that I tend to gravitate to include mainly yoga, but I have started doing some Pilates classes recently. The studio space is pretty "Zen" and the owner has imported many items from Bali to give it a very unique vibe. I truly enjoy the classes and look forward to my visit each week.
