One of the great things about Marissa is that she actually LISTENS and understands what you want to do with your hair. If you have a general idea, she'll help you decide on the perfect haircut, and if you have a specific idea, she'll listen, make suggestions to enhance the haircut, and really cut your hair the way you want! Another thing I love about going to Marissa is that there's no awkward small talk. She's so easy to talk to and she really makes you feel special. I love my hair now so much I even texted her a couple of days after my initial visit just to tell her again how much I loved her work. She's a really talented colorist and stylist but there are a ton of reasons to check her out. For example, * It's the only salon that's actually relaxing. It's located in the Sola Salon building and Yvette is the only stylist when I go so there's no sounds of dryers all around or a bunch of other conversations all around. Nope, just very private and relaxing with no other noises. * It's actually fun to get my hair done. Because the setting is so private, I'm the only client. I'm not forced to wait to get shampooed or cut like other salons multitasking clients. And Yvette keeps the conversation and music really lively, I bet she adapts it to each particular client. So I love the privacy aspect, it's a cross between super luxury one-on-one service and the time you convinced your best friend to cut your hair in your kitchen. It's the best of both worlds! Yvette does such a great job with my hair, a two color process and cut in record time. I love how after cutting she's as excited as me to start blow drying it to see how it looks finished! I give her complete freedom to cut and color however she's inspired and it's been great. I also really get a kick out if her when we both stop and admire it, she will explain how to style it and each time she gives the haircut a name, "I gave you a modified *celebrity name* cut so style it like this". I recall I've been a modified Joan Jett and a modified Denise Richards, among others. The prices are definitely reasonable and she's been very understanding when I had to reschedule because if an emergency. I've never met Brandy, the other half of Martin Hanson, but Yvette told me she only trusts Brandy to her hair because she's such a fabulous stylist. You can't go wrong. I was skeptical at first because I haven't colored my hair in over 14 yrs. but my virgin black hair desperately needed a change. When I went in, I showed Marina a picture of an ombré hair style I would've loved to have done. She ended up bleaching blonde balayage highlights into my natural black hair...nothing close to what I wanted. People told me that some of the highlights looked white and that my hair reminded them of a skunk. I let Marina know and she said it would cost $45 to tone it over. I didn't want to risk another hair failure so I decided to go to someone else to get my hair fixed and spend more money on top of what I had already spent on the Groupon plus the tip I gave Marina. On a positive note, I found another new hair stylist who fixed my hair and gave me the ombré look I desired.
