Tried a strength class Monday and a Cardio HIIT class Tuesday. Both were awesome!! I appreciated the staff and the fact that there were 2 coaches in both classes (not sure if that's typical). All 4 were great! Street parking, try to come a little earlier. PS I hate cardio, but they really made it bearable so I may come back just for the cardio HIIT classes!! read more

I have nothing but good things to say about BFT--the program itself, the staff, and the community. The program has a good mix of strength/power and HIIT/cardio workouts, so you don't get bored, and has monitors that display the exercises and your %max heartrate, also with a target, so you get feedback for when to push harder or let up a bit. There are usually at least two coaches for around 20-30 ppl per class, and they do a good job motivating and giving tips for proper form/technique. Good mix of fellow class members, mostly aged 30s to 60s (?), but I feel all ages fit in well. I'm 58. They also coordinate various out-of-club get-togethers. I started about 1.5 yr ago. My main goals at the beginning were to be more healthy overall, with a side goal to make gains in strength-to-weight ratio. I started slow, only coming in a couple days a week. I had a back injury (unrelated to BFT) and was in pretty bad health for a while. BFT also has "8-wk challenges," which add a concurrent app-based meal plan (including recipes and shopping lists), and I found this to be super effective in losing weight. I've now done it three times and I've lost about 30 lb in a little over a year. The meals are pretty good, too. They have an E-volt machine that you can use to see your body weight and a lot of body composition metrics, such as fat weight, lean muscle weight, visceral fat, %body fat, and more. The app tracks your progress. I have a much higher strength-to-weight ratio now and I feel a lot better health-wise, especially compared to when I started BFT. Highly recommended. read more

I stopped in for a couple of classes one week and really enjoyed this studio! All of the staff and coaches were super friendly, and the members were some of the friendliest I've ever come across in a gym/group class setting. The format is fairly easy to follow and both the workouts I tried were hard but doable, which in my opinion is the best type of workout. The equipment is in great shape and it's truly impressive the variety of equipment they are able to fit into the space. I'd highly recommend checking them out! read more

I love BFT! The science-backed workouts, the fact that there are two coaches per session and the positive energy. You always feel welcomed and supported. But the best part of BFT are the coaches especially Coach Rob. He is by far the most knowledgeable, attentive, and fun Coach. He combines high energy, practical suggestions, and motivational cheers to every session. He pushes without being pushy! I make it a habit to go on the days he is Coaching, which are too few! I hope during the summer he coaches more days. read more

I've been going to BFT Rockridge for a year and a half, and I can't emphasize enough how much I love coming here. When I started out, I hadn't been working out at all and was nervous about joining a fitness class. But my experience with BFT has made me love working out and given me the confidence to push myself physically and try new fitness activities. I've gotten so much stronger since I joined, and the coaches are great about making sure you don't push yourself too hard and feel comfortable when trying new exercises/movements in class. BFT's classes are honestly great for both beginners and experienced athletes. Programming wise, what sets BFT apart from other fitness classes is the strength training. It offers a few different strength based classes, which is really helpful for people who have always wanted to lifting heavy weights but feel uncomfortable or nervous to try it by themselves (such as me lol). For example, I had never done a deadlift or back squat before coming to BFT, but with their coaching I've been able to do those and many more workouts I had been too scared to try on my own. Another reason I love BFT is because of the class structure. They offer a different class every day and even when it is another strength or pump day, they always change up the exercises, so I never feel like the classes are boring or repetitive. Additionally, the community and environment BFT creates with the coaches and class members is incredible, and I love that they plan social activities and hangouts outside of class. The staff and coaches are welcoming and fun, and I appreciate that they try to get to know you and your fitness goals. I'd definitely recommend BFT to everyone, it's suitable for all fitness levels and the wide variety of classes means there's something for everyone. My favorite part of BFT is the positive atmosphere which really comes down the the coaches. And the best coach there is really Coach Rob. He is really experienced and knows his stuff inside and out, so when he gives you corrections on your form or advise about nutrition, you know you can trust it. He is super welcoming and brings a lot of fun and energy to the workout space. He seems to know just how to coach you in a way that works and motivates for you. All of that makes a big difference, so when I get my weight training or cardio in, it doesn't feel like a chore because it's a good time! I've basically checked out out all the other gyms in Rockridge. BFT is more community-oriented and is the one I've stuck with. They mix up the workouts each week which are based on a lot of science and were developed by long time trainers of professional athletes. I can definitely see my progress over time. read more

This is the first gym I've ever consistently gone to. Their classes are great; some are purely strength focused, some are only cardio, and others are the mix of both. The coaches are really helpful in ensuring you have proper form when you're lifting and push you when they think you can lift heavier. I've been going to 3-4 classes a week for about four months and I look forward to it each time. read more

One common refrain you'll hear more often than not at BFT is, "wow I can't believe how short the class seemed". Whether it's a grueling cardio class or a strength class, the minutes seem to sail by, and before you know it, it's time to do a set of cool down exercises, and you're off to the rest of your day, one box checked. I have a theory about how and why this phenomenon works: 1. Time is subjective - usually when we're at the gym and waiting between sets, it can be a bit boring. We can try to ameliorate this by listening to music or a podcast, but it can kinda feel like a slog. At BFT, many classes ask you to do 45 - 60 seconds of hard work followed by 45 - 60 seconds of rest. And the rest seems to fly by because you're clinging and relishing your recovery time. The 45 - 60 seconds feels more like 15 seconds. 2. Misery Loves Company - By pairing you up in small teams, somehow it feels more tolerable when you're going through these exercises. Suffering shared just feels less lonely. I believe it's a similar phenomenon that drives the reasoning behind staying up for 20 hours during residency and pledging for fraternities. read more

Great new circuit style gym that opened in the Rockridge area. I had the pleasure of going to their soft opening and the class was super energetic with incredible coaching. Their motto is group classes with a personal training approach and I definitely felt like that with all the coaches in the room. I felt like I had a great workout where I could push myself but also feel safe. Finding parking is a bit difficult so I would come to class 10-15 minutes earlier if you're driving yourself. read more

BFT Rockridge is the best! I joined 5 months ago with a lot of hesitation as I was at the tail end of knee and foot injury recovery. I didn't want to re-injure but wanted to start strengthening. Let me tell you that my fears were put to rest during the very first class when I was given modifications and put at ease by the warm and welcoming coaches! Jesse, Kalen, Kristiana, and Greg are the coaches that I've worked with the most and also taken a few classes with Donovan. All STELLAR and invested in helping me and everyone else achieve our best in every single class. The coaches gently nudge us to improve in everything from better form in strength to reaching for those stronger pulls on the rower! I have started changing my mindset to becoming stronger and improving my body fat percentage VS simply losing weight on a scale. THANK YOU to the team for helping the shift to this healthier mindset. Jenny (GM) , Morgan (AGM) and Adriana are always there with their welcoming smiles at the front desk and that sets the positive tone for the class before it even begins. Chris, the owner, is also very encouraging and you'll find him sweating it out in classes with everyone. Another big plus is that I get to work out with one of my good friends and we encourage each other to take the classes and we partner up. Love the BFT buddy system as partnering really encourages me to work harder and it's good to have another pair of eyes in addition to the coach keeping you in check. And I'm loving the friendships that are forming with the other BFTers!! BFT Rockridge - Start of our journey at BFT - Trainers Near Me - Oakland, California

If you're looking for a training program that covers all your bases, BFT is it! I was quite skeptical to join and leave my previous gym, but I'm so glad I did. This gym has a well-rounded focus on strength and endurance and uses your heart rate as a guide for when to pull back or give it more. It really feels like specialized personal training but in a fun group environment. There is always more than one coach on the floor and they're all so incredibly knowledgeable, energetic, and willing to help to make sure you're getting the most out of each exercise. I'd recommend this gym if you're willing to commit 3 or more days a week so you're really getting the most out of the program cycle (they typically have an 8 week progression cycle). One thing I tried recently that I really loved was an Evolt360 body composition scan. These scans are included in your membership and allow you to track your progress with more than just a number on a scale. I think they retest every 4 - 8 weeks. Another item to note is they don't have showers, but they do offer free garage parking! Overall, if you're looking for a gym to join or want to switch up your current routine, I'd highly recommend giving BFT a try. read more

I am so glad BFT opened, I've been waiting for a gym like this near by! Classes change daily which keeps it fresh and I've yet to be bored. All of the instructors are fantastic, coming by during exercises to correct form or push you to go heavier in weights. After going to another gym where the instructors just demo and don't correct form, it's refreshing to be somewhere where they really want you to improve. I can't recommend coming here enough if you're looking to get into strength training or just want to up your overall fitness. I truly think there's something here for all levels and every one is friendly and not judgmental. Bonus: there's free parking in an attached garage (a true rarity)! read more

Body Fir Training is the community I have been looking for. Ever since my gym in Cow Hollow closed during the pandemic, I've been searching the East Bay for a community space and I'm very glad this opened in my area. Workout is different everyday but the concept is strength one day, followed by cardio the next day. Their scientific approach to each workout not only keeps your body healthy but it also pushes you. The workouts are not as intense or intimidating as you think they would be but it is partly because of the culture in this gym. Rest when you absolutely need it and push further when you can. I get to socialize with my other gym mates since for each individual routine, you get a partner or be a part of a trio and every day, I get a different partner. This partner can help you with your form and balance, to cheer you on, and to spot you when necessary. On top of that, each class you always have more than one instructor that checks on you and ensures that you're doing the exercise right. Don't forget to purchase your own body monitor! They have loaners but it's nice to be able to interact with the device using the app, see your progress for the day, as well as track your overall body health using the EVOLT machine. Also, this is a monitor that you put around your body, not just the arm or the wrist so it's nice to have your own than share it with other sweaty mates. They have different pricing plans that can fit your budget or your workout goals. I was a founding member and I was able to get a discount on their unlimited plan. I forgot to mention that all the instructors are very helpful and motivating; and the entire BFT Rockridge team are very accepting. read more

The coaching staff is nice and they do a good job ensuring ppl are doing things well. Overall, from a group fitness standpoint, I think they really hit the mark in terms of providing strength and hypertrophy-based programming that is not typically available in a group class setting. You can also track your heart rate with a provided HR monitor. This is a great way to gauge effort and an uncommon feature in most group fitness classes . If you are looking for a group fitness place to build strength intelligently and safely, this is definitely the right spot. It can feel a little cramped when a lot of ppl show up, but it's still a worthwhile investment in your fitness. The customer service is so so. read more

I'm totally sold on BFT! I switched from a group HIIT based gym to Body Fit Training because I wanted to focus more on strength training. Each class has two or three coaches that provide excellent motivation as they work with each athlete to improve their form, regardless of experience or fitness level. Some of the workouts are cardio heavy, while others focus on lifting with proper rest periods. Every day is a different workout, so you won't get bored. Your heart rate monitor displays your max heart rate % up on the screen so you know when to push yourself and when to pull back. Periodically, they have clinics that focus on one lift, such as a barbell back squat. This allows you to learn proper form and determine your 5 Rep Max. Owner Chris and the rest of the staff are so friendly and very responsive to feedback. They've already adjusted the schedule based on member feedback! Perks include free towel service, garage parking, and a locked room for bikes. Highly recommended! read more

I love the concept of personal training meets group classes. It is a great mix of cardio and strength training so every day is a new challenge for me. The heart rate monitoring during class keeps me focused (and distracted from the pain. ha!). Lastly, I love the community. This is a great circuit gym. I really enjoyed the coaches Aden and Serena who provided personalized attention that differentiated this gym from others, like Orange Theory. The coaches were attentive to injuries and the variety of skill levels in the class. Love BFT! Everyone that works there is very kind and welcoming. They picked a great bunch of people to work there. Also, I love quick-group workouts but one problem i've come across is that most places don't have the best options for strength. This gym provides a balanced mix of cardio and strength, and has a thoughtful weekly schedule that creates a cohesive day-by-day workout plan for you. Great location, huge variety of all new equipment, high-energy coaches, great sound system, clean bathrooms, clean workout area, plus a variety of programming that keeps things interesting--even barbells and boxing. I do the 6am, and other members seem to be chill professionals just starting their day with a workout. Would be nice to have a preview of the daily workout so you know what to expect, but the coaches are great with demo and form correction. Totally satisfied with my membership. read more

This is the first review I have ever left on Yelp and that speaks to how much I love this gym. After being pretty inactive since the pandemic and feeling a tremendous loss of core and overall strength, not to mention weight gain, I knew I had to finally get off my butt and do something. I first met Chris the owner, who walked me through the training program and I decided this would be an excellent place to achieve my strength and weight loss goals. I'm also very happy that it is a locally owned business. Chris really wants invest in the overall well being of his community by bringing people together through this supportive and encouraging place. I am not a gym person and was actually in tears right before my first class. I was so scared I would feel foolish being there because I'm such a novice and out of shape. My experience was the complete opposite of my fears! It was such a great atmosphere and people were so kind. I felt cheered on and excited that that I made it through my first work out. I got hooked. Not only do I get to work out with one of my dear friends, I get to meet so many great, inspiring people of all fitness levels. The General Manager Jenny and The Assistant Genral Manager Morgan are awesome and always so kind, super responsive, and great at communcating. The coaches are incredible and are very good at helping me learn proper technique and modification as needed, all the while making me feel uplifted and motivated. Jesse, Kalen and Kristiana are the coaches I train with the most. They have so much experience and knowledge and are truly experts at what they do. I always am learning from them and they always brighten my day. I know the other coaches are really great too, but I can't get myself together enough to go to the early classes they teach. Ya, I dig this place. The least bro-y gym I've been to, in a good way; like instructors busting into some Beyonce choreography between reps. If that speaks to you, this is your place. Also good variety and fun to work out in teams as you do start to feel like a community. I probably I enjoy the strength classes more at my age (early 40s), but I recognize they're all helping me live. I wish it weren't quite so expensive. Highly recommend. Trainers are great, every class has a good ratio of trainers to students, and they focus on form. This is also the first gym I've gone to that incorporates technology so you can rewatch the exercise throughout your workout, which is helpful. It's also the first time I've worn a heart rate monitor and attempted to hit specific zones, which has been so helpful for my fitness progress and in preventing injuries. The gym and equipment is also very clean. They have towels too, which is nice. Lots of class times, convenient location, and parking. Great staff. I've participated in many types of workouts, gyms, classes in person and online, worked with a personal trainer, was a D1 athlete, took every kind of spin cycling classes from Johnny G Schwinn's original classes to Peloton, CrossFit, and BFT is a favorite. I really like the results I'm seeing here and the way you progress and alternate between strength and cardio means your body isn't overly fatigued and I'm not crushed or in pain like I am after a HIIT class where I push too hard. These classes also appeal to a wide range of people and it seems like they work for athletes to out of shape people and everyone in between. I've also tried out their 8 week challenge and especially appreciate the grocery shopping lists, meal and snack recipes and variety. Only other time my fitness instruction also focused on nutrition was working with a personal trainer. As an introvert and busy person, I like to efficiently fit in my workouts, and I'm generally not looking to socialize at the gym, but there is a nice sense of community that is impossible to escape here - the whole BFT team is great and members are nice too. I started with 8 classes a month and converted to unlimited and I liked it a lot 8x's a month and love unlimited membership. The workouts fly by. I'd suggest trying a few workouts since each class is so varied. read more
