If you buy packages of classes you can also take their other classes if you want a break from spin. Stretch, pilates , core , etc They have a new comer trial mini pack to try them out for a few days. Such a great studio and community! They have several in options for classes throughout the day and great instructors! I enjoy going to Minphy, Jonathan, and Marcella's indoor cycling classes. They have so much energy and are great instructors. They have a great playlist too! JL is a great Pilates instructor as well! All of the employees are so nice and friendly! It makes you want to come back and be a part of the community they are building. They also have a great smoothie bar that is decently priced. Like many who endured the pandemic, I didn't keep up with my workout routines. I have to admit I let my various gym memberships lapse. Reverting to my pre-geriatric sloth-like tendencies, I was having trouble finding motivation to reignite my mojo beyond my carefully calibrated FitBit steps. I seriously asked myself if it was too late to find it. Funny how fate works because now I find myself here taking an indoor cycling class every week. So you may ask what made me turn a new leaf? I owe it all to Jonathan, who is not only a superb cycling instructor but also one of the most inspiring teachers I've ever encountered. He's also genuinely warm and encouraging to everyone who walks into the studio. Ride Oakland is devoted to generating fun through a beats-based spinning approach that's both challenging and gratifying. This is more than an aspiration to Jonathan. It's a passionate commitment. The propulsive house music and mix tracks make the 45-minute sessions fly by post haste but no more than his clear and motivating instructions. He escalates the energy level at the right moments and then cools down just when I need it. I haven't been up and down on a bike seat this much since I was a paper boy escaping an angry German Shepherd. A single class costs $30 but goes down significantly the more frequently you come. It's a shame that COVID has killed most of the spin cycling studios outside of major gyms! Ride is one of the exceptions and I can understand why. It's vibrant, well attended and with friendly, inclusive instructors. They have a variety of different classes (although I've only taken spin) that take place in multiple studios, as well as a bar nearby. Pricing is comparable to other spin studios but you can take solace in the fact that this is going to an independent business and not a megachain like SoulCycle. The bikes themselves are simple spin bikes - no power meters, and no fancy wizardry in the room besides some colourful lightstrips and LOUD music. They have ear plugs next to the instructor's bike, which I recommend you start with (or risk hearing damage). One nitpick is that the music tends to veer more towards pop / RnB / hip-hop - it'd be nice to have some more traditional electronic music but that may just be my personal preference. Besides the changing rooms with curtains, there are two showers which I never have had to wait for (at least at the full 9am classes on Fridays). Towels are provided but are pretty cheap and cheerful, so if you want something a little nicer - bring your own! They also provide shoes. Booking is online and classes do book out during popular times relatively quickly - so I recommend booking early! read more

The first cycling class I took at RIDE was with Jamie back in October and let me tell you miss Jamie does not come to play She creates such a positive atmosphere and really motivates us and pushes us to the limit while still going at our own pace. Her playlist are straight and it's always a mini rave during the classes. Jaime has created a safe space during her classes for us to workout and have fun doing it. I've been to Ride 58 times in the span of a few years. Overall, I have liked the classes and studio. I took multiple classes with Meghan when she taught at Ride. I've also taken a few classes with Dallas and Jamie. All were great and brought a lot of energy to the class! However, I am not sure that I can recommend Paisley's class to anyone that does not consider themselves an expert unless they want to be in the very back. Her class is hard which is why I have taken it about 15 times. I enjoyed pushing myself and appreciated the challenge. But, during my most recent class she came up to me directly during class and told me I was off with the choreography and to stay in the saddle. I found that to be extremely embarrassing and, as a result, felt pretty self conscious for the remainder of the class. Of all the times I have taken her class I have never seen/heard her go up to a person directly during class other than to help with a bike issue. Nor have I ever had any other instructor do this at Ride or other studios. As a result, I felt pretty unmotivated to complete the rest of the class and stayed in the saddle without following the choreography. The class ended up feeling like a waste of time and money. I understand that she puts an emphasis performing well and matching the beat/choreography but I think it is clear now that we are now on the same page for how serious this should be taken. My main purpose for attending a class is to have fun and get a workout in. To me, it is excessive to come up to someone directly and tell them to stay in the saddle when you are already saying throughout class to stay in the saddle if you don't have the beat or choreography. The class can hear the suggestion but in the end it should be everyone's own choice to listen especially since they have paid to be there. read more

This place is the absolutely best. I've been cycling here for a couple months now and every single time it's an absolute joy. It's such a welcoming community from the teachers to the other riders. The atmosphere of the class with the lights, great playlists and light choreographies keep you highly motivated. For awhile now I've been wishin' and hopin' and thinkin' and prayin' and dreamin' about a dedicated spin studio in Oakland so I was super excited to find Ride Oakland on Yelp a few weeks back. The folks at Ride Oakland offer your first class free. I called to take advantage of their new rider offer and signed up for Saturday's extended ride. When I arrived I wasn't on the list but Deb sorted it out and I was able to get a bike. I found Deb's manner and her music motivating. The bikes are brand spanking new and I liked the use of the weighted ball during the class for an additive upper body workout. After my first ride I bought a 10 class pack ($170). And then I went back for more on Sunday to find I enjoyed Lucy's class just as much. I've now been to three classes at Ride Oakland (and have started to recruit my friends to join me) and have whole-heartedly enjoyed them all. The music, excellent energy of the instructors and other riders and the sweet space make Ride Oakland a place I want to spend a lot of time in. At long last, exercise I actually look forward to and truly enjoy! I'm so glad Ride Oakland's around. I love Ride Oakland! Located at the end of Piedmont Ave, it's a clean studio with great instructors. The music will depend on the instructor, but sometimes have theme rides (I think I did one where it was Jason Derulo vs Neyo), which are really fun! Unlike several other spin studios, they don't charge you to rent the special shoes (huge plus!) and they have an area partitioned off for changing (with curtains) where they provide amenities such as dry shampoo. As for the classes themselves, they are typically 45 mins long with a component near the end where small weights are used for "arm" work. Unclear as I write this why I put arm in quotations. Maybe because the max available dumbbells are 5 pounders. There's 5 mins at the end of class reserved for stretching. They also offer extended ride classes, which run about an hour. Price is pretty standard for spin studios, but not astronomical compared to the Soul Cycles of the world. I come here on Classpass.com and rely on Ride Oakland as my go-to spin studio. Parking has never been a problem for me; however, I do try to come early to find a spot since it's Piedmont Ave and street parking can be tricky sometimes. Highly recommend! read more

It was my first time riding today and I've never felt so welcomed. My instructor was Luci who went out of her way to greet me and immediately made me feel right at home. She was so engaged with her class along with all the other cyclists. Her positive and upbeat energy is incredibly contagious and she is SO kind. The girls at the front desk were also really helpful by showing me around and also making me feel super comfortable. Aside from the staff being amazing, I was so impressed with the lay out of the entire place. It's super clean, inviting, organized and motivating! I highly recommend this location if you're thinking about spin classes (although I am dying to try the other classes that are provided) especially if it is your first time. I just started spin classes at Ride Oakland and while starting something new may seem very intimidating, I have felt nothing but excitement and encouragement from the front desk staff and from both of the instructors I've had so far, Jessica and Lucy. Both instructors have different styles so it feels unique every time. There is so much empowerment in every class and at the end of the class, you end up feeling powerful and ready to start your day. Man, you Donna fans are relentless lol a couple of hours after the schedule of the upcoming week opens up and Donna's Friday class is already waitlisted.....first on the waitlist and I didn't get out of it until the night before the class. Anyway, upon entering the studio that Friday I was welcomed by Deb. Super sweet lady and she gave me a tour of the studio. I chose Donna as the class instructor because previous reviewers mentioned that she's more of the hip hop type of person among the whole crew of instructors here. Not sure if it's because of the certain class I chose to attend, but the music ended up mainly being dance music from nothing beyond the 2000s lol didn't mind it too much. Choreography throughout class wasn't too complex; good for newbies who want to learn choreography movements typically used in these kinds of classes. Music speaker quality was decent; not overwhelmingly bass boosted so the class is pretty good on the ears if you're too sensitive to sound. Bike was comfortable and there was a good amount of space between bikes in the room. Complimentary bike shoes or bring your own (bikes are SPD and Delta compatible). The only reason why I docked a star is because, as a previous reviewer mentioned, the bike room does get a little stuffy by the end of class (I did attend a full-house class though). Overall I'd say this place is worth checking out especially if you're interested in getting into indoor cycling (first class is free!). I'm just going to start this off by saying I HATE group classes. I will do anything in my power to workout solo, away from as many people as possible. But one day someone told me about Ride, raving about how much fun it was and the amazing workout. I saw the first class free and thought I had nothing to lose. Let me tell you... the first class is hell, and afterwards my legs were shaking. I didn't know anything about spin at all, from the shoes, bike adjustments, this new word called 'cadence' that seemed to be repeating out of every instructors mouth (white girl can't dance or catch a beat to save her life). So it was a pretty overwhelming experience. But the people at Ride are so kind and helpful, they set me up on a bike, explained how to adjust difficulty, fit me in shoes... It made the experience a little less stressful. Here's what hooked me and makes spin addicting: It calms your mind. You can't think about anything else than what is going on in that room. What's important to realize is that the dark room, neon lights, loud music and motivational instructors is why this works. You can't look around the room and wonder what everyone else is doing, or wonder if you're doing things right, your mind can't wander to your job or life's worries... when you're at Ride, you're THERE, in the moment, the beat thrumming your ribs, and a coach pushing you to be your best. I've now done around 100 Ride classes, and sometimes I dread it a little and buckle in a bit sleepy, but the endorphins kick in within minutes, and I always leave feeling calm and never like I had the same workout twice. It took a while, but I can finally keep 'cadence' and feel confident to sit closer to the front/middle. My best experiences are when I can feel the beat without looking at the instructor, close my eyes, let the music drown my thoughts and get lost in an amazing workout. Next part: The instructors. This is very important for anyone who thinks that the workout was too hard, too easy, boring, fun... etc... Every instructor is vastly different in terms of the experience and workout intensity. I've found that there are motivational classes, boot camp like classes, beginner and slower classes, classes with a TON of choreography, some with little. I think I've taken classes from around 12 different instructors and I am partial to 2-3 because of my personality, workout and music preferences. So try a few different instructors to find your fit. Pro tips: -Front rows and middle seats are for more experienced riders for the simple fact that if you're working on cadence you sometimes have to look at the person's feet in front to help you. Someone off cadence in front of you can actually be a bit of a distraction (although I know last minute we can't always get the seat we want). -Occasionally there are promotional deals with 10% off packages. I haven't gotten one in a while though, but I assume they are still around? -If you come early, there are mats and rollers for stretching and abs (before or after class). -If class is full and you're in the area, come to the studio and like 80% of time you can get a bike from no-shows. Pros: Amazing workout, great facility, wonderful instructors, nice changing areas, clean bathrooms with lady products, apparel looks nice although I've never bought anything. They remember my name *heart eyes* which I really appreciate. Lots of cubby room. Shoe rental is FREE thank god. Cons: The price increase was $4 ($20 to $24) which I thought was a bit much. I will only buy packages or when I get the 10% off deal. The elbow room is sometimes tight- I pick seats where I can do presses without bumping elbows. Tried my first class here today and it was great! The facility was super clean; there are changing rooms, showers, bathrooms, and even a juice bar. I really appreciated the fact that they blasted the fans throughout the class and that there was a decent amount of space in between each bike. I took one of Donna's classes and I loved her playlist. I would suggest going to her class if you like hip hop/rap. Overall, I would highly recommend this studio. The teachers are pretty high energy and the room is dark and pretty spacious. The music is loud, and sadly, the system isn't quite up to snuff and makes it pretty hard to hear what the instructor is actually saying. Ok for me since I know my way around a spin class, maybe not so ok for any newbies. Similar to the new wave of spin classes - 3/4 of the class is a routine on the bike with one song focused on arms. Similar to life, some instructors are better than others; you just need to find yours. Plenty of street parking, a nice, local spin studio definitely makes Ride Oakland a great option to shred some calories! read more

I come to classes at Ride Oakland when I'm visiting the Bay Area a couple times a year, and I've had great classes for the most part. My favorite instructors to take classes from are Sarah L and Donna - I love that they stay on the beat for the entire class (except for sprint/run intervals) and that their choreography matches up with the 8- and 32-counts usually (the perfectionist in me gets driven up the wall when choreography sets don't match up). The only thing I don't love is that they sometimes have you ride flats that are WAY too fast, and especially too fast to be riding out of the saddle. I've never felt safe being out of the saddle at over 100 bpms, and I've been doing indoor cycling classes for over 10 years. Other than that, though, the classes are fun and sweaty! I love the vibe, which is much more laid back than and not at all snotty like some other popular cycling studios that shall remain nameless. I have been and will continue to try to get everyone and my mom to come to a class here! I've completed 2 rides: Ultimate Ride with Mason. I've done a number of spin classes at a "standard" gym, but I've never been adventurous enough to try a boutique fitness class...until now. This was a great first experience. The first class is free, which is always a plus. One room, roughly 30 *nice* bikes, cool/dimmed lighting with an instructor who also functions as a badass DJ. Mason is engaging and motivating, and the dimming of lights absolutely helps me focus on my workout rather than worrying about people being able to tell how much I am sweating. I am always surprised when the 50 minutes is up, which is probably the best indicator of how fun the classes are. Vibe/Ambiance: Clean, fresh, friendly Amenities: Two changing rooms complete with complimentary sprays & wipes, free weights for use during class, cubbies for gym bags/necessites, clips/bike shoes for riders, changing/waiting area with benches to put on clips/bike shoes, and towels waiting for riders on bikes upon arrival Tips: -No need to bring a combo lock as everyone who comes through has to check in for their class at the front desk (one way in, one way out). -If it's your first time: Don't be afraid to raise your hand when the group is asked about new riders...the instructors provide helpful instructions they may otherwise skip -Don't be intimated by any of the other riders...some may look serious but everyone is just trying to prepare themselves for a tough workout! -Bring WATER...it will be as refreshing as a mixed drink on a beach when you finally need it -If parking is scarce on Piedmont, park on Pleasant Valley Ave (to the north of Piedmont)...plenty of room and only a short walk to the studio read more

Talk about heart pumping, sweat drenching, leg killing workouts! Before I committed to buying a classpass I took advantage of their first-free class. For my first ride I made sure to arrive 10 mins early to get an overview of the place and get myself familiarized and situated with the shoes and bike. The person at the front desk was super helpful, she gave me a quick tour of the space, she took me to my bike, she adjusted the bike for my height and helped me click the shoes onto the pedals as I struggled horribly. But I was set and ready to go for Sarah L.'s class to start. Sarah L. made my first ride so enjoyable I left so pumped & ready to buy a classpass. Since then I've taken classes with Sarah L. on Thursday evenings, took one 6am morning class with Luci and due to my schedule as a student, currently taking Mason's Wednesday evening 60min class. I must say they are all amazing instructors. Very unique in their choice of music. Sarah L. is a huge fan of Sia, which I love so her class is always fun. But Mason, I love his choice of music the best; he has a mix of rap/r&b/hiphop with EDM. A little hood as he likes to call it. Being an Oakland Native, I love his style. Aside from the music, I leave his class drenched, sore, and feeling good, like tonight's class. Yet again, his style suits me, but may be different for other riders. The space is spacious and always clean. I also never have trouble finding street parking. One of my favorite spin studios ever! I found out about Ride Oakland as a ClassPass user and after coming to Ride 10 times via ClassPass, I wound up buying a 20 class pass through Ride themselves. This studio is fairly clean, offers free spin shoes, and has a changing area & 2 bathrooms. I find myself coming at least 1x a week and always walk out with a smile knowing I crushed it and burned a crap ton of calories. The more I burn, the more I can eat :) I've tried a bunch of different instructors and they all differ in type of music & intensity. If you find yourself coming here, don't forget to set an alarm for 2pm Sunday! That's when classes for the week go live and people are very quick with booking certain classes. read more

I've never spun before and Ride was such a great intro for me. I definitely recommend using their promo for first ride free! You do have to create an account online, but you don't have to put in your credit card info. After you've taken your first class free, you can sign up for the new riders 5 classes for $55 special which I definitely recommend. They provide shoes and towels, so all you really need to bring is a water bottle and socks. If you're new to spin and/or are generally out of shape, I don't recommend taking Jeremy's class as your first ride. Don't get me wrong, he's a great teacher and definitely earned his position as lead instructor, but newbies may be overwhelmed by how challenging his class is. Additionally, you tend to see Ride veterans/regulars in his classes which shows the demographic he's accustomed to teaching. I would, however, recommend Jessica's Friday 5:15pm class or one of the Sunday 3:45/5pm classes instead if you're a new/out of shape rider. Those times tend to be less crowded, and Jessica specifically makes an effort to introduce herself to/check in with new riders throughout the class. They're still difficult classes, but she's great at saying reminders like "if you're new, stay seated during this portion," etc. Another new rider pro-tip: You can't see the instructor/instructor's bike from Bike 27 if there's someone in front of you, so I wouldn't recommend booking that bike, especially if you're new. I've done about 15 classes so far, and I'm definitely hooked! The only downside is how expensive it is (currently $24 for a single class and as low as $16/class if you bulk purchase 40 classes). It is less expensive than SoulCycle, but definitely pretty pricey to keep up with. I never thought I'd be one of those spin-obsessed people, but here I am! Ride Oakland is an established Cycle Studio in the area. I've taken spin classes at other places over the past few years. The following are reasons why I like this studio. The studio is very clean and provides cycling shoes, towels, weights, foam rollers, and water for your bottles. Class size is small and class fees are reasonable. Staff is professional, engaging, and customer service oriented. A big shout out to Deb, owner, for installing cleats on my new cycling shoes. Now that's customer service! The studio gives back to the community by hosting fundraising events like Ride for the Cure on March 9. All instructors are awesome and play a variety of music and themes to challenging workouts. I've taken classes with Donna, Jessica, Sara L, Helen, Deb, and Catlin. I'm working up to taking a class with Jeremy. Donna is my favorite because I love her music and style. " You ride to the rhythm and you ride to the beat". She focuses on form, hills, and intervals as she builds up the class in workout intensity. You won't be disappointed. Thanks Ride Oakland. Happy to find a place to get active again. I'm about 12 classes in and really appreciate the space, community, and instructors. I've never done a spin class so I don't have anything to compare it to. I like the small class size and that we don't have to rent shoes! Price seems decent too. First class free and than 5 classes for $55. I never ever thought I would take a spin class. Then one day I met a woman who said the first class is free so why not give it a try? On a whim, I very uncharacteristically woke up at 5am and gave it a shot. I love this place! 2 1/2 years later, I have come to know and love so many people in this little community - all while becoming stronger than I have been in decades! Did Ride power yoga with Valerie via Zoom this week and loved it! Great pacing to her class, wonderfully hard workout, and a sense of soul and connection to the flow even though it was virtual. And my triceps are still sore (in a great way). Definitely recommend their virtual yoga classes! read more
