Stopped here for coffee and some pastries on the way to an attraction. Such a cool place and a very friendly staff.

I'm a sucker for anything book related. Putting books together with a bar goes over the top. And this place, in summer, was orgasmic. We simply stopped for a couple of Peroni bierras to catch up on our journals and chat a bit about our early amazing visit to the Vatican's st Peter's Basilica. Listening to classical music lightly mixed with Italians chatting away created a moment even Hemingway would be proud of. Perhaps the sites and restaurants would make one desire for return trips to Rome. This biblio bar is alone worth it for us. We even had to bum a couple of cigarettes just to top the experience. Rome is a magical city. And this is the cherry on top. Just to be practical, a grande Peroni costs us €5 each. It wasn't "ice" cold, but this is Italy.

Nice little outdoor bar/cafe spot next to the river. Lots of drink options and food options as well. Friendly, quick service. There is a covered outdoor area behind the establishment.

Cute little outdoor cafe/bar area with books and desserts. A bit cold but I imagine it's lovely in the summer.

Their breakfast selection is incredible -- a wide variety of fresh, beautifully crafted pastries that taste just as good as they look. The cappuccinos are perfectly made, rich and balanced, exactly what you'd expect in Italy. What makes this place even more special is that it's not just for mornings. In the afternoon, it transforms into the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxed aperitivo in a lovely, cozy setting. The service truly stands out -- the staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and always smiling, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. A must-visit if you're in Rome -- whether it's for breakfast, a coffee break, or a laid-back afternoon drink.

I was disappointed with the bread and cookies we purchased. It's difficult to do everything well. Perhaps narrowing on one specialty is best, but I'm old school. I miss the days of the fruit store, the formaggi shop, the wine merchant, etc. Everyone was lovely at Il Gianfornaio, and reminded me of how my American education was lacking. I can only speak English and a smattering of French. The merchants at Il Gianfornaio spoke English better than me. That was embarrassing.
