Intro: After having dinner in the area, we were looking for a drink. Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fa was only a few minutes away by foot, so we made our way. Located in Trastevere, my favorite part of Rome, this casual bar with the long name specializes in beer. Service (3.5/5): They have an extensive beer list. If you want to see it all, take a look at the tablet at the end of the bar. Which is what I did. It took a while for the bartender to help me and they were actually out of the beer I selected. The bartender recommended a similar one which was slightly more expensive but he charged me the price for the beer they didn't have. That was a nice touch. Ambiance (4/5): You can sit outside on the small patio or stand, hang out by the bar inside, or the room in the back of the bar. We initially started out in the back before I went to the bathroom downstairs and discovered that they had a hidden room in the basement. It's not a true speakeasy but it reminded me of one so we sat here for the rest of our time at the bar. We were the only ones down there so it was pretty cool. Food (N/A); We had dinner prior and I don't think they have food anyway. Drinks (5/5): Ma Cha Siete has a lot of rare beers so it was a treat. Belgian beers, sours, saisons . . . the type of beers you don't typically find at a bar. Because of that, some of the beers are quite expensive. We're talking 20 euros or so. But they're typically in large bottles so it's more than one beer and you're paying for quality. It's worth it. They also have more affordable beers if you'd like to avoid the rare stuff. Overall: If you're a beer aficionado, this is the place for you. Make your way down to the hidden room downstairs and enjoy your brews. Cheers!

As a beer aficionada I was very happy to visit this pub in Trastevere. Their taps were very fresh and I loved their wide selection. There was a great mix of locals and tourists.
Literally a hole in the wall, but a great place to try obscure craft beers in Trastevere. Blink and you'll miss it. A limited menu but has something to satisfy every beer lover. A small interior but also has spots to sit outside and watch people go by. Bonus - it's directly across the street from Birreria Trilussa!

Between the friendly service and prime bar seat I grabbed pretty quickly, I really could have stayed here sampling beers all night. If there had been more time in our packed schedule, I absolutely would have come back to try even more of their chalkboard list. While here, I was able to try or sample: - Dama Brun-a: LoverBeer (Pass. Way too acidic.) - La Mummia: Birrificio Montegioco - Iris: Cantillon (Finally.) - Geisterzug Gose Rhubarb: Freigeist Bierkultur - For Fan: LoverBeer (SO GOOD!) - Saison de l'Ouvrier Violetta: LoverBeer - Gallagher Stout: Hilltop Brewery The bartender kept randomly sticking sour samples in front of us, which just prompted us to split more bottles! He even gave us the For Fan at a discount. How nice is that?? Clientele here is pretty mellow -- the right vibe you want for a dark and small bar. One girl even shared her outlet with us so we could charge up our phones. A traveler's dream! I'll always remember my visit here, and I hope I can stop back the next time I'm in Rome. Such an amazing spot for beer lovers!
Cool, tiny little beer bar near Travestere. They typically have Cantillon and a range of other beers rare to America on tap. Beers range from €4 to €6 depending on size, ABV and rarity. It's tight and cozy inside like most places in Rome but just off h beaten path enough to serve as a nice, boozy, reprieve.
Very small bar located in the Trastevere neighborhood with a great selection of beer and reasonable prices. The staff is very helpful and friendly. You will see many locals at this bar as well. The place has character and I will definitely be back the next time I am back in Rome! Beware of the bathrooms--perhaps they have "too much" character.
Craft beer in Italy? Hell yeah!! We popped into this place before dinner and found locals drinking beer and having a good time, so we knew we were in the right place. We each grabbed an Italian beer and they were both GREAT! We loved this place.
A few years ago Ma Che was basically my second living room. It's a place I've always felt comfortable hanging out and the beer is amongst the best in Rome, if not the best. I still go frequently but the proliferation of new craft beer bars in Rome these days means that Ma Che isn't the only option for the beer connoisseur, as it once was. The bar opened nearly 15 years ago, and in its early days was a pioneer of craft and keg beers, focusing on Belgian and German ales, with a few British and Italian beers. With the rise and rise of the Italian craft beer scene, these days you can also sample a handsome range of home-grown ales here as well, chosen carefully by the experienced owners. There are about 15 taps with regularly changing ales, ranging from Weiss beers to APAs and IPAs, bitters, saison, blondes and stouts (with a handful of rarities in between). You can sample the beers before you buy, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. There's a medium sized TV screen in the front bar, showing live sports (including major football tournaments) and music TV. There's an air-conditioned back room as well with an even bigger screen, which becomes particularly popular in World Cup / European Championship years. On warm evenings, there's always a crowd of people outside the bar and the atmosphere is highly congenial. Despite the litres of beer that flow here, matters always remain pleasant - I've seen very little aggression over the years. It's also a great bar for women to drink in, as it's by no means a pick-up joint. Drinkers here are focused on the beer - which is at good as it gets.
Come have a drink with Rafael in his Pub. They have excellent beer on tap, with a couple of good local brews, and the owner specializes in sourcing beer from small craft breweries in a region in Germany near Bamburg. They also have the sought after, so we're told by the beer geeks, (no disrespect, it's the only descriptive word Rafael and I could find in common) Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus, a great Belgian sour. Talk futbol, he's a huge Lazio fan. I didn't know this, but the pub gets its name from a chant sung by Lazio fans especially when they're pummeling an opponent. It translates to "What did you come here for?" I know I came for one drink and ended up with three.

We tried to go here twice - the 1st time, it was too crowded and people were spilling out in to the alley, so we stopped at another bar instead. The second time, we got there early enough that it wasn't very busy yet, and we sat at one of the high tables in the small back room. The staff is VERY friendly, and of course knowledgeable. They offer free wifi, which is always a plus. They had a great selection of beers - even Green Flash, which made me giggle. I was more excited to try some local Italian craft beers and enjoyed a couple of pretty decent IPA's. Prices were reasonable. They were apparently voted one of the best beer bars in the World, which is pretty amazing! The bathrooms are frightening, but that goes without saying in Italy! It's a small space, so be prepare to stand in a crowd or hang out in the alley.
Fantastic bar in the Trastavere area of Rome. I went here 3 times when I was in Rome, and each time had a great time. The owner, I think Fabian (or was it Tony?) was very nice! I came to find out his brother lives in Torrance, which is where I grew up! Being an American, you come here for the Cantillon, right? I also happened to be here on Zwanze Day, which was handled smoothly. Their taps are great and showcased a good variety of styles. Would I come here again? I wish I could be here all the freaking time!

If you want to enjoy a bierre at a true local bar try this place. It's small and intimate and with no frills. They have a small but varied draft selection as well as other bottled and canned beer and they offer wine as well. I do not recall if they have cocktails. Be prepared to muscle up as this place does get busy and if the weather is good they have outdoor tables to sit and enjoy your pint as you people watch. read more

Great spot for craft beer in Rome. Great local brewery options and even some cantillion. Bartenders were friendly and we got a nice seat outside. Trastevere is such a fun neighborhood to just sit and have a drink on the street. read more

TL;DR: Chalkboard with ~15 beers on them. All from tab. 4€ for small ones, 6€ for large ones. Smoking outdoors. Music indoors. Toilet in the basement. Well... basically I loved my "Brew Dock" in Dublin. The year I lived there I went to this pub several times a week. Not only for the people (even though they were great) but also for the beer variety. When I moved back to Austria, that was one of the first things I missed. I was on a 4 day Rome vacation with a friend and we stumbled upon this place. And what can I say - perfect. The guys and girls behind the bar were friendly, we had all different kinds of beers to drink and hang out all night. It is a quiet bar, more for drinking & talking than for drinking & partying. But that is what I like... so, go there if you are in Rome. read more

Without a doubt, this is the best craft beer bar in Rome! I visited Ma Che every night during my recent week long stay in Rome and each time it was fantastic. Ma Che has this very cool "locals/homey" vibe ... a casual and friendly place to hang out and drink outstanding beers. Even though I'm was a tourist, I always felt welcomed at Ma Che. The front bar area is a bit small ... but make sure you go to the back room as it's typically uncrowded with a decent amount of space to spread out a bit. Or better yet, stand outside and drink on the streets of Trastevere like the locals do. The tap list here is world class ... between 15 to 20 beers on draft, mainly Italian selections - which are fantastic, Italy is producing high quality craft beers, do not miss! There's also a very good amount of bottled selections. I was particularly fond of the 750ml and 375ml bottle of Cantillon ... plenty of different Cantillon bottles available at very good prices (10 euro for 375ml & 20 euro for 750ml). Pricing at Ma Che is very reasonable ... you would pay more for the same in larger US cities like NYC, Chicago, LA, etc. Crowd there is a mix ... I'd say 80% locals and 20% tourists. Everyone including the staff is super friendly. Atmosphere is just chill ... not a meat market or a douche hipster hangout. Ma Che is one of the best craft beer bars in the WORLD ... highly recommend - do not miss!!! read more

This place is fabulous! Belgian beer bar in Rome . It's a little small at the bar area but there are rooms in the back with more seating, I'm pretty sure this is just a bar, I didn't see anyone getting food. read more

One of the best beer bars I've been too. My only complaint is that the bottle list wasn't up to date, so I got excited about a bottle that they were unfortunately out of. I did get two other delicious bottles (Cantillon) and they have the basket to pour from. I'm trying to squeeze in another stop before we head home. read more
