There is genuinely something for everyone here, as the library is very spacious and offers an impressive variety of resources for all ages and interests. With four floors dedicated to different needs, including music, children's areas, extensive book collections, and quiet study rooms, it is easy to find the perfect environment depending on your mood or purpose. The sunlight throughout the building creates a bright, peaceful atmosphere that makes spending hours there feel comfortable. One of the things I love most about this library is that despite how popular and busy it can be, it remains incredibly quiet. People are respectful, and there is a shared sense of consideration that makes it an ideal place to concentrate. My favorite study area includes comfortable cushioned chairs and large tables that give you plenty of space to spread out and truly settle in for long study sessions. The library also feels thoughtfully designed to encourage productivity and comfort, with clean, well maintained spaces and a welcoming layout that never feels overwhelming. Having a coffee inside the library is the perfect touch, allowing you to enjoy a coffee or drink while reading or studying if you feel like it. Visited this library - Bibliothèque Raymond-Levésque recently as I read about it in an Architecture…read morejournal. It is a stunning building, very well designed using eco-friendly methods such as sustainable materials and even a green roof! The timber panels really create a Scandinavian feel so you almost feel as if you are somewhere else. Inside there is a lot of exposed concrete which really juxtaposes with the timber yet compliments it at the same time. It is a very tranquil environment inside, full of students studying whilst being bathed in natural light flooding in from every angle through the glass walls. I could sit there for hours! Definitely worth a visit if you are an Architecture fan!

One part is a typical Victorian heritage building, the other half in the back is very 21st century with iron beams and glass-like cages. This was my old neighborhood so I had this library, the Pointe-Claire pool and Terra Cotta Park (which was much wilder and more fun then when it still had a running stream) to grow up with. Thanks to the grace of this library, I discovered everything while growing up. The young adults selection of books were great particularly in the late 1970's and early 1980's. Because of that, I still have a soft spot for Dell Yearling paperbacks from that era, with writers like Judy Blume (of course!), Patricia Reilly Giff, Ellen Conford, Constance C. Greene , C. S Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, Alan Garner, Jonathan Bellairs, and dozens of other writers and hundreds of titles I can't remember right now. As a preteen, they used to carry vinyl records here before the advent of CD's and it was thanks to this library that I was able to access the entire record catalog of gateway bands like The Smiths, Depeche Mode, Love and Rockets and R.E.M when they were considered alternative and underground and very hard to come by. You have to remember this was long before the internet and getting access to that music was next to impossible unless you stayed up late to listen to CBC Radio's Brave New Waves with Brent Bambury or New Music Foundation on Monday nights on CHOM FM with Benoit Dufresne and Claude Rajotte. This kicked off a love of alternative, post-punk British New Wave music which has still stayed with me. I don't know if they still have little after-school craft workshops for little kids, but they did in my time. I also remember that their water fountain ALWAYS had unusually cold water and the woods behind the library had a few paths which would take you down to the shops. In the springtime, these woods were covered with trillium flowers. I don't know if this is still the case but during the 1990s, this was the highest-per-capita use library in Canada among municipal and public libraries, which should tell you something about the collection here.

It's old, packed with books and tables and chairs, some more comfy than others and actual living plants everywhere there's a window. I arrived here around 4pm on a Tuesday (2016 elections, this might be my very last review before Trump or Hillary wins!?!) and kids were all over having fun and talking loudly. I asked if there was a quieter area and the man directed me to a peaceful oasis which is the reference room. I read another review which was a little negative but I honestly don't get it. This place is wonderful. BTW, you need a password to go on their free wifi. This library is right next door to the pool and arena and Terra Cotta park! What a great area!

My visit to this library was during the Covid-19 period when my library card expired…read more I wasn't really interested in borrowing physical books but because I recently got a Kobo eReader and libraries which are part of Montreal (such as Bibliotheque du Boise) offer the ability to download certain ebooks via the Overdrive platform. Montreal libraries had the possibility of borrowing ebooks and without renewing my library card, I was able to borrow ebooks for a certain number of months and then go through this same process again but I decided to just visit the library to renew my library card. I verified that the library was open and went there to renew my library card. Upon entering, there was a security guard at the door who asked me whether I was picking up books and I informed her that I was showing up to renew my library card. I used the hand sanitizer which was there and waited to be served by one of the library workers. Once she was ready, I gave my driver's license (showing proof of address residency) and my old library card and within a few minutes, she provided me with a new library card. When I got home, I was able to borrow Overdrive ebooks from the libraries part of the Montreal network's website: https://bibliomontreal.overdrive.com/

I have to update this out of sheer joy - I don't know why it took me so long to figure out that as…read morean alumni I can get a free library card but it's true and I'm so freaking happy. The wifi in McLennan for non-students is quite wack (and possibly hacked) but aside from that I just adore this library. I love sitting by the big windows, I love digging through the giant stacks and discovering the worlds of incredible research in here. The law library is astonishing and modern and deeply quiet. (Thanks lawyers.) Every library in the McGill network has its own gemlike qualities and are just lovely inspiring places to spend time (maybe not during finals.)

I don't usually go to the Concordia library because: -It's always crowded -The wifi is very unreliable -You can't easily plug in your electronics from all areas of the library -The private study areas at the MB building are nicer But despite that, it's a very beautiful library. Very modern and clean (except during midterms and finals) Sometimes I have long breaks in between classes so I take a seat and wait it out. I love the fact that it's open all the time but I think security should tighten up a bit because we often have non-students loitering around.
