Cheese Spaetzle - pretty tasty but too salty!
    Ed T.

Heard loads about how great this place was, its fun vibe, brilliant beers and its great authentic food. 3/4I think, as the place was great, there was a lively and fun vibe, the beers were tasty, but the food was pretty poor! The food is pretty pricey, though substantial portions so you can probably share plates with friends. But it's surprisingly poor quality and with the amount of food stalls etc in London, you can find better food quite easily. Perhaps the worst thing for me was that the food is ridiculously oversalted, to the extent that I was downing water more than if I was hungover, and I even woke up the next day feeling like I'd been out drinking! Don't get me wrong, as a place for beers and fun times with friends, I would DEFINITELY come here again, especially as you can book tables. But the primary focus is the beer, the beer, and the beer. And the oompah bands.

Very typical German environment. The food was good but the potato salad was not like in the Munich style and they didn't have a very good variety of Munich food. It was also very noisy downstairs. The waitresses were attentive during our time there, however one of my friends forgot a document in an envelope on the table, went back 3 minutes later for it and the waitress had crumpled it and thrown it in the bin, which was very careless from her part.

In my opinion the best of the German Bierkellers in London. The food is fantastic, the entertainment is amazing and the beer is excellent. Definitely a great night out for you and your friends any night of the week. However I would try and avoid it during football games as it can get very overcrowded!

    Very nice place

Blah. Good spot for a beer. Sausage is mediocre. Of course, we're in London, not Munich!

Pretty decent No-Fuss-Eating. Tasty beer and lots of meat. Service was quick during lunch. Very similar to Bavarian Beerhouse.

Went here for a quick pint and business chat. Not very crowded. Beer good, but their stout (I like stouts) was rather "light" I thought.

Being a German, it's simply a treat to once in a while treat yourself to a Currywurst or a Krakauer...and so I appreciate the folks at Wurst Club for giving me this opportunity. What I missed was a place to sit and by means, this is nothing that the shop owners can do about, due to the space constriction, but not working around the area, I had to find a place to eat my wurst. I had ordered the homemade Kartoffelsalat (potato salad) and while the portion was plenty, the taste didn't exactly hit the right spot. (Maybe I can give away my mother's recipe, as her potato salad is delicious!) My tip: go for the Currywurst as this is the most German you can get. Simply have it with fries in a paper tray - it's by no means healthy, but it sure makes you feel good inside ;-)

I stumbled across this place on the way to Leadenhall Market and made a mental note to return and try it for lunch. I ordered the Berlin Berlin meal deal which is Curry Wurst, Chips and a drink for 6.95 which puts it in the top end of my lunch time pricing. Considering that it markets itself as German street food is a little pricey but then again the rent on a unit on Cornhill will be steep. There is not much space to eat inside so I would recommend The Wurst Club as a takeout place. I was impressed with the food, the curry sauce on the sausage tasted great and the chips were very crispy. I'll definitely try it again.

I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

We originally headed over to the Anchor Tap pub to enjoy some pub food since we had just arrived in London earlier in the day and had built up quite the appetite. Unfortunately, they stopped serving food already, so while looking for a nearby place to grub we ran into this place. Wow. ...and not in a good way. The bald headed bartender that day could not have been much more rude and dismissive if he tried. I attempted to place an order at the bar (as this is apparently how it is done out here) and was told, "Wait at a table, I'm helping these people." He pointed at a table of 4 who were already eating. Ok. So we sat. and sat. and waited. and waited. He never made any attempt to make any kind of contact after that. We sat there for about 15 more minutes before deciding eff this. The only other employee there that we saw was a young lady who kept wiping down the same 2 tables over and over. (??) By the time we got up and walked out of the place, there were at least 2 other couples sitting at tables waiting to be acknowledged. That guy needs to find a new line of work. What a rude, miserable little man. We were there practically begging them to take our money and business and they simply weren't interested. Unless you enjoy hostile and rude service for no apparent reason, I would avoid this place like the plague. 1 star.

Things took a more obviously Hoxton-esque turn when the bar man upstairs appeared to be dressed like Jeannie Crankie from the Cult Scottish variety act 'The Crankies'. Tweed jacket, knee length shorts and pleasant if obviously affected air of cool was the order of the day. That said, once he came off his mobile phone to serve us he was reasonably pleasant till kicking out time, upon which there was no warning and little patience. All-round a nice oddball bar. The new romantics DJ on Saturday was particularly adept at looking like a 1950s German train driver. There's also an upstairs but this may or may not be closed now.
